Hi

Has anyone taken probiotics and how has it been. I’m a week on them and I’m constipated with a lot of pain. I was really hoping they would work because my gut health is not great and I have colitis . I’m 4 years post transplant and my doctors said it was safe to take them .

My nephrologist recommended I take a probiotic and I have for a couple of years. Do they help with constipation, NOPE. Do I even know if they are doing anything for me? Not really. Do they cause constipation? Yes they can at first. It takes a while, but that does settle down. Make sure you are drinking lots of water.

Hi. Since I was sick in January have been having bad diarrhea and my nephro suggested a probiotic, thinking it was due to a change in my gut micro biome and not just med side effect. (I have always had diarrhea since tx due to the mycophenolate but only on waking, but this has been worse than bormal). As such never been constipated! Haven’t started taking them yet, she checked and said safe to take but idk yet if they will help w my digestive issues.

I get a big bag of organic flaxseeds, then grind them in the blender. Then I make little biscuits with them. They don't taste great but they do make you regular! Good luck. Hope you get relief soon

I take both Probiotics and Prebotics and I don't have any issues with constipation. I didn't before my transplant or after. What kind are you taking? Also, you might do better taking a Probiotic Multi- Enzyme. Also, if you don't drink enough water that won't help either.

Hi,

I have colitis that manifests with constipation I think I also have IBS . I have constant stomach cramps, tired and sluggish all the time . All my lab work is fine. I’m taking precision biopics around 10 days now. I do feel I have a complete bowel brain disconnect.

If everything your doing is still not helping you need to go back to your doctor and tell him or her that this is not working. There are so many new drugs and natural remedies to help. I have a friend that has IBS with constipation they take a certain kid of magnesium to help worh the constipation. I know its frustrating and painful but don't give up and be persistent that you want a solution! I know it's hard when your a transplant patient and have other issues because we can't just take everything like others. There is a solution for you. There is a new documentary on Netflix called Hack your Health it's about gut health you might want to watch that if you can. I have not yet but want to because gut health is so important and complicated. Good luck and big hugs

Thank you for the information. Yes I’ve seen that documentary I will definitely watch it . It is frustrating because I have a good working kidney and I’m not feeling the benefit because of these other things . But I will keep going , never give up 💪

Perhaps this is obvious but please make an appointment with a gastroenterologist.

I see one already the suppositories don’t help the cramps . I’ve had a number colonoscopies. I have ulcerative colitis but they think the pain could be IBS 🤷‍♀️

If you are constipated for more than 3 days I would seek medical help. You do not want a fecal impaction.
