I take vitamin C gummies. Not every day but anytime I feel a cold or something similar coming up on.

I would say to check with your pharmacist or doc. Some immunosuppressants interact with the following things:

Vitamin C

St. John’s Wort

Herbal teas: green tea, chamomile, peppermint, dandelion

Echinacea

Ginseng

Feverfew

For some reason, though, post kidney transplant patients tend to have low vitamin C which is associated with a higher mortality. Tricky!

Also, you probably already know, but avoid

Grapefruit and grapefruit juice

Pomegranate and pomegranate juice

Seville Oranges (typically used in marmalade) and blood oranges (other oranges are ok)

Starfruit

My doc told me to take a multivitamin (I take the costco version of centrum silver, because I'm 50), and Vitamin D, and I was okayed to eat 5 regular oranges a week, becuase of my low potassium.

The risk of taking too high a dose of vitamin C is developing kidney stones. At our clinic 250mg is the highest recommended dose for kidney transplant patients.

Vitamin K2 should prevent the kidney stones.

Thanks everyone . Just starting to explore adding vitamins to my diet . Just added Vit D which I think I should have taken much earlier to help with bones , now have issues with skin . But Lisa mentioned Niacinimide to an earlier question so will go with that as I have just seen a dermatologist and had a biopsy. This is such a brilliant support site. I love my team at hospital but with back up from here I can go in well informed . Being a professional patient is full on !

Being a professional patient and being able to advocate for yourself is definitely a plus! I take Tacrolimus, MMF, Vit D, prednisone and biotin as well (not sure biotin has helped) and agree with others to always check with your Transplant Center before taking ANYTHING!
