Covid vaccine and transplant

I had my 18 month check up with my transplant Dr. All is well with my kidney, but at the end of the appointment, she asked if I had gotten my vaccine. I replied yes. She said there is a study coming out that it is not working for transplant patients! So she said I still need to wear a mask unless everyone in a gathering has been vaccinated.

Has anyone else heard anything about this?

She meant with the medications transplant patients take the antibodies are produced at a lower level. This could potentially decrease vaccine's protection. Hence, it is wise to.continue wearing mask and avoid high risk environments.

Yes I am part of that Johns Hopkins study. I had no detectable antibodies after my first and my second doses of the Pfizer vaccination. I will be submitting another blood sample in a few days (3 months after my second dose), but I don’t expect to have antibodies this time either.

I’m part of the Johns Hopkins study and after the first dose only 17% of participants had an immune response. Those on drugs like CellCept had the worse outcome. I was negative for antibodies after my 1st and 2nd dose. I was able to get a 3rd dose for the study, and was positive for antibodies. My titers was 3.67, but they don’t know at what level one is protected. In the general population the titers seen is 6-8.

Here is a link to the study and they expect to release their findings in the coming weeks for results after the second dose.

Yes I was in the Johns Hopkins study and did not make antibodies . 17% however made antibodies to first shot and they are studying 2nd shot now. Stay safe.

Bottom line is we all must stay protected with all the precautions we have been told. I am in the JH transplant study as well so let us awaiting the next study report especially after the third dosage of vaccine. I remain hopeful that we will conquer this disease especially those with transplant.

I am also participant of John Hopkins study. I had no antibody response after dose 1 (Moderna), but positive antibody response after dose 2. I had that Positive test result on April 10, four weeks after second dose. Last week my doctor at Stanford Hospital ordered two additional Antibody tests (not related to John Hopkins study):1. SARS-CoV-2 Antibody, IgG

2. SARS-CoV-2 ACE2 Blocking Antibody

Unfortunately both test results came as NEGATIVE. Either Antibody levels are really short living (it was only 3 weeks between John Hopkins and Stanford tests) or thresholds for John Hopkins test was much lower.
