Advice on taking Areds2 supplement with single kidney

Hi, We often have multiple health problems so I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

I have macular degeneration in my right eye, very poor sight which is being treated by Moorfields. The left is dry macular and my Moorfields doctor has recommended that I take Areds2 supplement which can significantly help in preventing the left eye deteriorating.I am keen to start this as soon as possible.

The supplement has high doses of vitamins and minerals which may not be good for my single kidney.

I have tried to get advice from Urology online but no reply after a month. I was hoping to speak to them this week but my appointment has been put off for another month. I have spoken to my GP’s pharmacist who cannot give me an answer.

Have you tried speaking to your pharmacist, excuse me, chemist in UK about contradictions etc? They maybe of help to you if you can't get ahold of your physician. Interesting article. I hope you find the answer. One does have to be careful with supplements and CKD. I can relate. I only have one functioning kidney. Perhaps, some else here can better assist you here.

A quick perusal came back with this info: eyesurgeryguide.org/areds-2...

Thanks for reply, I have spoken to my GP's pharmacist and he is unable to make a judgement. I contacted my Macmillan Nurse about a month ago who is my contact with consultant but no reply to date. I will try to contact consultant's secretary.
