hello

I m writing on behalf of my partner as am worried and am in the dark.

She has had one kidney removed due to cancer 10 years ago and then had a cryoablation two year ago as there was a bit of a tiny lump where the kidney had been. Then all fine until January when a scan showed another tiny mass where the kidney had been so booked in for another cryoablation

My worry is that a scan showed a very small mass on the remaining kidney and the doctors want to do a laporoscopic biopsy on the same day as the cryoablation. The oncologist said he was 60% sure it was cancer.

We re both very stressed about it all - as I think the biopsy is a pointless risk. I think if they are pretty sure it’s a cancer - why not treat it. Am i mad? Or stupid? There seems to be a lot of risk - has anyone been in this position?

Many thanks

I'm so sorry you are going through this. They cannot just give you medications without confirming the need. It might NOT be cancer. Might be just a cyst. You never know. It's so hard trying to not go down the worse path worrying. I hope the outcome is good and let us know how you all are doing.

MRI can differentiate between cyst and a mass.

if possible get a second opinion, but like was said they will need some kind of confirmation its cancer.

Hi

By way of update. They didn’t do the biopsy in the end. The surgeon felt that as the mass hadn’t changed in size since October scan it was best to leave for now and then review on the next scan. Apart from that the cryoablation went well.

Would love to be able to go away in a month to Spain for some heat so fingers crossed we can.

Tnx

HiThe Boys- I am 76 years old. I had radical nephrectomy in 2006. Then found a 16mm tumor on second kidney. Waited for 4 years then had a partial nephrectomy in 2022. I just had MRI and blood test and so far cancer free. Kidney cancer has no medical treatment (to my knowledge). Surgical treatment is the only option. So, no biopsy, just get it out. If the lump is less than 40mm then surgery is a low risk. Good luck
