Chemotherapy and kidney disease

Hi, I’m looking for advice from anyone who has been through chemo with kidney disease please. Wondering what to expect at the end of my treatment. The oncologist has ordered a nuclear scan (had one about 7 years ago when my kidney damage was found which showed left kidney not doing much of the work but right compensating well. My GFR has been hovering between 55-60 for last 5 years. I am age 50 and just diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer.

Chemo and immunotherapy started yesterday, a gruelling regime of weekly treatment for 3 months followed by 3 weekly. I know the oncologist will keep a close eye on my bloods as the immunotherapy especially is known for toxicity to organs. I just wondered what to expect and if anyone has been through this please? My treatment is Keytruda, Paxlitaxol, and Carboplatin. Thanks so much for reading

I know nothing about chemotherapy and how it may effect your kidneys, but I wanted to step in to wish you well for a positive treatment result and eventually a speedy recovery. Sending prayers and positive thoughts.

I wish I had something to add, but I don't. ☹️ I just want to wish you well, and hope you come back and keep us updated on your progress. 🙏

Thanks guys, I will definitely do that. I am having regular bloods taken before each cycle of chemo. Thank you for your replies and good wishes :)

I was diagnosed with Lupus Nephritis 17 years ago. I had chemotherapy for the first 2 years!

I was expecting side effects because I have always heard about people having nausea or something like that with chemotherapy.

However, I didn't experience any side effects at all and the treatment was very successful. The Lupus has been in remission and I have managed to slow the progression of the Kidney Disease with the help of all the wonderful people on this forum.

Sending best wishes and positive thoughts!
