Proteinuria and ACE/ARB Inhibators

My GFR is still above 90 but my proteinuria appears to be getting worse. Does anyone have any experience using ACE/ARB Inhibators? Do they work ? Are they safe and effective in reducing Proteinuria?

I take an ARB for high blood pressure. It's a powerful medicine with side effects, I certainly wouldn't take it if I didn't have high bp. My eGFR has remained at around 60 for years, but I also follow a strict kidney diet.

Many take ARBs to keep their kidneys functioning well. High blood pressure can damage the filtering systems within the kidneys. Once damaged, kidneys can't be repaired or healed but one can certainly stop harming them further by keeping blood pressure in the normal range via ARBs and similar meds. However, other things can also increase proteinuria such as infections, dehydration, autoimmune disorders, aging, and so on. If you're noticing your levels are going up, this might be a good time to have a nice conversation with your doctor as to why he thinks this is happening.

I have high bp, and also proteinuria. Once I started on lisinopril (ACE), I haven't had any protein in my urine (3 years and counting). It's working for me!

Hi. I had proteinuria and nephrologist gave me Losartan 50mg (an ARB, I believe) and it helped clear it up. They changed my blood pressure meds to that precisely because it helps proteinuria. Good luck to you. Feel better.

Did taking that negatively affect your GFR or overall kidney function?

No, it did not negatively effect gfr or kidney function. But I didn't have chronic kidney disease, I had AKI (acute kidney injury, formerly known as acute kidney failure). My gfr went back up. It, and the proteinuria, all resolved now. I'm hoping the best for you.
