why aren't gps or the renal team concerned about early stages of proteinuria because it's classed as worse than ckd, especially if you have also got osteoporosis as I have.

Because they do not have sufficent experience and understanding of kidney desease and progression. It's since decades that Prof. Giuseppe Remuzzi (one of the most important Italian Nephroligist) is stressing that proteinuria is one of the most important sign of kidney damage.

In a study in Italy, proteinuria was independently associated with increased risk of cardiovascular mortality in men. (The abstract didn't say how much proteinuria or how much of an increase)

In a large medical records evaluation in Japan, proteinuria was independently associated with hip or vertebral fractures. If the incidence of these serious fractures 10%, this would put your risk at about 11.5%, depending also on your weight and degree of osteoporosis and other less important factors. There is a formula for determining your personal risk.

It removes vitamin D from the blood and is associated with osteoporosis.

Proteinuria is "occasionally" an early sign of kidney disease, says the Cleveland Clinic in the U.S. Also, proteinuria can also be caused by "inflammation, dehydration, stress, low blood pressure, aspirin therapy, intense exercise, kidney stones, and exposure to cold temperatures"

GPs are not trained in nutrition, which is the main complaint on this forum, because diet can help CKD. There is no medical treatment for proteinuria, or CKD until you get to the dialysis stage. Good luck

yeah, if you have got proteinuria what's the point in checking your egfr, because it can be normal but you are still spilling protein and getting worse.

Hi. Wasn't sure about " there is no treatment for proteinuria ". I was given Losartan and it did resolve but maybe that was an anomaly. They do say Losartan is used to treat proteinuria. Thank you for all the information you shared. All the best.

I was also prescribed Losartan to treat my proteinuria. It did decrease it considerably. There are other drugs used that apparently help proteinuria, such as Farxiga. My CKD isn’t a result of diabetes or high blood pressure, so I’m not ready to go that route, yet.
