In my thoughts and prayers.

I see an hematology oncologist Fri to begin treatment for the T-LGL leukemia I’ve recently learned I have. I guess you and I will be traveling this cancer treatment road together albeit with different types of cancer.

One step at a time.

How's it going, JJayhawker? Do you know what kind of treatment you will be getting? I was supposed to see the radiologist next Mon. but the weather will be atrocious; have to reschedule.

Our weather is going to be horrid beginning this weekend. Extremely cold with wind chill that will be very dangerous…

My oncologist said that the treatments used for my type of cancer include prednisone, anti-rejection medications, and anemia treatments at my current stage.

I already take prednisone and the anti-rejection medication for my kidney transplant. My anemia isn’t yet severe ouch to require treatment. So he’s going to monitor the leukemia right now as well as do some additional testing.

The type of leukemia I’ve got is extremely rare. In addition, it’s nearly never seen in solid organs transplant recipients. He said that there has been little research studying this type of cancer in solid organ transplant recipients so my case is extremely rare.

My data is nit as severe as he typically sees at initial diagnosis. This was caught early with me specifically due to the transplant monitoring.

He would have pulled me off Myfortic if I was still taking it. The transplant center pulled me off it about 11 weeks ago. That has led to my CMV finally calming down. He said that my CMV is under control and stable now. He confirmed that it’s because I’m no longer taking Myfortic. He also talked with me a lot about what the leukemia us doing. It’s the reason my lymphocytes are high but that won’t cause increased risk of organ rejection. It’s also thd reason my body didn’t respond particularly well to Neupogen injections to increase my white blood cell count. They don’t use Neupogen injections with leukemia patients. Basically, my odd data and unusual reactions to some of the meds they’ve tried unsuccessfully with me now make sense.

I’m in for additional tests this coming Wednesday and will see him again in about 4 weeks.

I see my hematology oncologist again this Friday. Ironically Friday is the 15 month anniversary of my transplant which occurred Nov 16, 2022. I’ll be celebrating in thd oncologist’s office apparently…

Coincidentally, my kidney removal nephrectomy was on November 16, 1989. I know…that just sucks!

My sister just completed 6 mos of chemo and Keytruda, single mastectomy and lymphectomy, and is finishing up with radiation. Ten months since she’s been to her job. Regardless, every journey and diagnosis is so incredibly different, that’s a huge lesson. God bless you, keep us posted - Adrienne
