I had diabetes for 42 years. Stage 2 progress to stage 3

I am currently spilling lots of protein in my urine. I was put on Kerendia. Have anyone tried this medication for this? Another thing I am also retesting fluid in arms, legs ankle and feet that goes away but comes back most times. Any suggestions? I am 70 years old and very tired of CKD.

I'm sorry you're suffering with diabetes. Sadly, it's a disease that uses glucose to slowly stiffen and narrow the blood vessels throughout the body, including the filtration vessels in your kidneys. Proteinuria (spilling of protein) is often a sign that that your diabetes is damaging them - well functioning kidneys usually filter protein efficiently. Your nephrologist is putting you on Kerendia which is similar to Farxiga and Jardiance. That indeed would be a good medication for you to take to protect your kidneys and slow down further issues. Perhaps the swelling you're experiencing is also related to your kidney function so it's possible Kerendia will help that too. Of course, the best treatment for diabetes is to avoid sugar and carbs (which turn to sugar) as much as possible and to also exercise to strengthen your heart function and more. I'd like to add that, if you have the chance, you might want to sit down with a doctor that you trust and have that person explain your situation to you and work out a good plan going forward - taking into account all the various factors above. Being proactive often leads to good outcomes. Sending encouragement your way.

I've been on Jardiance since January and it seems as if it's helping with my proteinuria.

Kerendia is different from Farxiga, it has been shown clinically to reduce Proteinuria, that would be the goal.

Here is what drugs.com says -

How Kerendia is thought to work is:

There is a receptor in the kidneys, heart and blood vessels tissues that is called mineralocorticoid receptor (MR).

When MR is overactive it leads to inflammation, tissue damage and scarring, which is thought to cause kidney disease and cardiovascular disease to become worse.

Kerendia blocks the MR so that it is not as active, so the MR is less likely to cause as much inflammation and damage to kidneys, blood vessels and heart.

This means Kerendia slows CKD from getting worse and also lowers the risk of cardiovascular death, having a heart attack or needing to be hospitalized for heart failure.

True, Kerendia is in a different class from Farxiga and Jardiance. Kerendia is manufactured by Bayer, Jardiance is manufactured by Eli Lilly, and Farxiga is manufactured by AstraZeneca and Bristol-Myers Squibb. It's a battle among competitors. Lol. All three meds are kidney protective - helpful in reducing proteinuria, heart issues, etc. Kerendia is the latest one to come on the market - hence it may be the best one. It'll be interesting to see which one eventually does best with diabetics.

i have used lisinopril for the past 2 years ( 5mg. per day). Seems to work well for me keeping my proteinuria under control below 10. I believe if it goes over 30 it becomes a concern.
