Hi, as stated above I had a kidney transplant last year. It has been very successful. Having said that I do have some anxiety because I have been drinking quite a lot of black tea this past couple of months.

Stopped drinking it early part of the week. I am having irregular heart beats and some dizzy spells and would like to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks in advance.

BP 113/62. Pulst 76

HI, Black tea has a significant amount of caffeine in it. Switch to decafe or over to green, which has less caffeine. Your BP is fine, heart rate is a bit up, but not unnormal. Tea is good for antioxidants but anything in excess is not good. Try drinking water in-between. Also, is drinking tea a habit? Try to look at when you are drinking and see if you can change the behavior. Such as sitting down to watch the TV or whatever you do at the time. The irregular heart beats is something you should mention to your doctor.

Thank you so much. It is reassuring to get information. Really appreciate it. Actually this is my account and the information was for my son. He is going to set up his own account. He is here with me now.

Regardless of trandplant, a 42 year old shouldn’t be having irregular heartbeats so best to book an appointment with your GP sooner rather than later. As others have stated green tea or decaf best. No problem having one morning cuppa of black tea but not all day. Ask your GP.

I recently received a kidney transplant. ( a month ago). The first thing the kidney transplant team did adjusting my diet was take me off of was green or any herbal teas. I was allowed black tea while I was still in the hospital. Too much of anything isn't always good for you. I would definitely talk to your doctor.

I had a kidney transplant three and a half years ago and I was told to not have green or herbal tea or any herb supplements. They can interfere with your immunosuppressant drugs. I think decaf tea might be better. Call your doctor about the dizziness and irregular heartbeats, that is not to be ignored! You may need a referral to a cardiologist. Also, are you drinking enough water? Tea and coffee or other caffeinated beverages can dehydrate you. Good luck to you!
