Port covers

The aquagaurd covers my son uses seem to easily peel after he gets in the shower. It doesn't make taking a shower a stress free process. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi! My hubby also had trouble sealing the areas when he had ports placed for HD and PD. The good news was that, after my hubby's PD catheter port healed (maybe after three weeks or so), his PD nurses inspected the site and then told he could shower without needing any covers over the site at all. We noticed that some like to use a lanyard to support the catheter while showering. (Those can be bought online - including Amazon.) My hubby tried that but preferred to let his catheter dangle freely. Afterwards, he would simply pat himself dry there. Our PD nurse also told us to make sure that to periodically sanitize the shower head - simply dip the shower head into a small bucket using a Clorox solution per her "recipe". Hope this gives you a bit of direction.

Thank you, we also clean the shower head with the Clorox recipe 🙂. The doctor was pretty adamant about him using the covers but we have not revisited the question. Thank you, I'll definitely reach out and ask

I also don't cover it all in the shower and just let it dangle. I do some scrubbing around the catheter to remove any dead skin.

I forgot to add that after the shower I pad the area very lightly with a fresh clean towel and let it air dry.

Thank you, he cleans his port area with the solution only. This is new so I will definitely check and do not research

I by the rolls of waterproof bandages (originally used to cover new tattoos) They come in various sizes, I use the 4" by 11 yards roll. I use it in the shower and when I swim in my pool. It dopes not leak and when you take it off it feels like you are ripping off a bandaid, but I can live with that knowing my port is safe. BTW it will take the dressing off with it. Here is the Amazon link (much cheaper than shower shields also):

Thank you, I was looking at that but I thought it might be to much adhesive. I will get it for him and see how he likes it
