Sudden Increase Of Creatinine

Hello everyone, I am returning after a few months of absence. I am 55 years old. Recently, my creatinine levels on the three most recent blood tests, conducted within the past two weeks, have shown a rise to 2.0. Previously, these levels used to fluctuate between 1.5 and 1.7. My glucose level remains average, and I have not made any changes to my diet, which primarily consists of vegetables. Occasionally, I include a small piece of salmon or a boiled egg.

The only recent change I've made is starting physical therapy for my knee twice a week for the past two months. This therapy involves a series of exercises aimed at strengthening my hamstring, glutes, and quad muscles. It's important to note that these exercises exclusively utilize rubber bands and my own body weight.

I have a question: Could this increase in creatinine levels in my blood and the rise in protein in my urine be attributed to my workout routine?

Thank you for your insights.

In general more muscle more creatinine. Variation is really small. Pay attention to hydration. I would not be too much concerned. Do not look only at creatinine. All other kidney values matter. Wait next set and drink enough. Rgs

Yes it certainly could. Our muscles produce creatinine. Think of it like the exhaust gas coming out of a car. Not only does creatinine increase as we use our muscles but even at rest larger muscles will put out a fair amount of creatinine. The good news is that creatinine itself is not toxic. So your kidney function may be exactly the same except your exercise has increased the amount of creatinine in your blood .
