HI James, We do not diagnose. I am sure your doctor will explain. Many factors make up the diagnosis of CKD. Do you know what they are? GFR, creatinine and protein in the urine are the biggies. If the labs do not show issues with those, then I wouldn't worry.
I am sure your doctor will explain that a lot of things can cause cortical scarring. Sorry that we can not diagnose on this site, but do talk from our own experience.
First, know that this does not mean you have CKD. It usually takes years of blood and urine tests and the doctor tends to see a down turn in your values. One bad test does not prove it either, as there are many variables for abnormal labs, exercise, dehydration, diet, NSAIDS, etc. If your labs are all normal your doctor may just want to watch you every 6 -12 months.
I have scarring on my kidneys from high blood pressure that was not properly controlled. Taking NSAIDS can cause it too. Originally my scarring was caused by a case of strep when I was 9 and won't up with glomerulonephritis. My kidneys were inflamed. Thirty years later I was diagnosed with CKD. (FSGS) 8 years later I had a kidney transplant. My kidneys were getting all scarred up inside. Today, 23+ years later, an xray does not even show my "native" kidneys...so scarred up they have disappeared
I understand your worry. I too have recently had an ultra sound , following recent diagnosis of stage 3a. It showed 3 smallish areas of scarring to right kidney. I had a serious kidney infection when I was 17 (now 66) so wonder if it’s a result of that. Anyway, GP reviewing bloods and urine in 1 yr, so just trying my best to walk everyday and eat as advised. Wishing you all the best and keep us updated x
