kidney damage from holding wee?

Hi,

My son aged 11 has always held onto his wee and will go at the last minute. Sometimes this leads to him leaking wee in his pants.

He told me at the weekend that his back aches when he wees, pointing to both sides where his kidneys are.

He says this only happens as he wees.

I took him to the out of hours service and the dr said there's no infection or blood but we should ask our gp for an ultra sound to check his kidneys which I will do tomorrow.

I am worried that he has damaged his kidneys by holding his wee.

Does anyone else have any experience of this?

Thank you

Maybe best your father contact a urologist. There is a urologic condition that can damage kidneys.

how did the ultrasound go? I’m assuming that the kidney pain will stop once he starts peeing more often. Should make sure he drinks plenty of water. Let us know how he goes. Good luck

We haven’t had it yet, I’ve been told up to 2 weeks. Is it positive that his urine samples are clear in terms of kidney disease?

Always positive when urine results are clear 😊Your son’s doctor will be doing all the correct tests to eliminate any problems that may need attention. If all clear then he can get help with bladder training. Until then best to speak to his doctor and try not to worry
