Should add he’s diabetic type 2, smoker, non drinker, aged 59, his diabetes according to diabetic dr few months ago told him to come off metformin ( diabetic Med) as he was controlling it well, he is over weight but eating healthy

I too have enlarged prostate, and was prescribed medicines for it. I am CKD 3b and was put on appropriate Chronic Kidney Disease diet which has helped. Keep us posted on results.

Sorry to hear about your husband's issues. I trust that benign prostate enlargement is responsible for all that your husband is experiencing. In our case, my hubby eventually learned that his diabetes (T2D) impacted not only his kidneys but also the functioning of his bladder - nerves and muscles no longer functioned well, creating urinary retention. So, after much talk about prostate enlargement, it wasn't that after all. It took a long time and a few specialized tests to figure that out. After we were given the definitive diagnosis, we were able to work with it satisfactorily. Hope you get resolution soon, too. Not knowing is very hard to endure.

Oh it was his diabetes that was causing it was it! We won’t know until after his transperineal biopsy booked on Tuesday morning, I presume your husband had a biopsy did he, hoping to get his blood tests done tomorrow too, yes I totally agree it’s an awful time not knowing what’s going on isn’t it,

And it’s difficult to research without a clear diagnosis. Googling with too little facts is dangerous to one’s mental health. It adds to anxiety if you’re so inclined.

Luckily I don’t suffer from anxiety but I do agree with you, it makes much more sense to get the diagnosis then ask lots of questions to your consultant, that’s what I will be doing once I get more info from the professionals, it’s very early days yet, but as been going on for few weeks it already seems a lifetime, we are both keeping as positive as we can as that’s how we live our lives trying to keep those positive vibes flowing

No, my hubby didn't have a biopsy since his PSA levels and physical exams were fine. The investigation veered to why he was experiencing urinary retention and infections - was it simply the moderate benign prostate enlargement, was it damage from the diabetes, etc. Every person is unique; your hubby's situation will be his own. Simply hold fast to the fact that they will get to the bottom of it and both of you will have a diagnosis and direction. It's actually a relief when the "sitting and spinning" ends and you see the way forward. Blessings.

You didn’t say if you have a urologist and a nephrologist you need both. It’s good to get lab work done that way you’ll know all of your numbers I believe you said his kidneys are at 30 % that’s not a bad number if that’s his GFR number. Enlarged prostate can cause your kidneys not to function properly Hopefully they can get the issue with the prostate fixed and the kidneys improve

Yes he’s got a urologist not a nephrologist

I'm unclear why he's having a biopsy without having had PSA blood tests then scan (NHS procedures) unless I'm missing something in your post. If he's been diagnosed with BPH, it's unlikely to cause PC so may be no cause for worry if that's your concern.

But depending on the outcome of tests etc, I suggest he considers a naturopathic specialist. He has several symptoms which may all be connected to 1 underlying issue/system. Medics are unlikely to seek that root cause and likely to prescribe multiple drugs (polypharmacy).

Yes he’s had psa tests his psa has risen rapidly last month was 6.1 he’s had mri which indicated enlarged prostrate they found PIRADS-4 lesion seen in left lobe 14mm in diameter that’s y he’s being sent for a transperineal biopsy on Tuesday by the consultant, meanwhile our local gp has contacted saying that his kidney count in sept was 90 and now it’s in 30s , hence urgent blood tests for weeks he’s been retaining 3 litres of urine using self cath, I’m beginning to wonder if the problems with his kidneys are a separate issue here as he was taken off all diabetic meds only two months ago he was on metmorfin 1000mg he was told to stop as his diabetes very well controlled , he was also on forsiga few months ago this was also stopped

OK, thanks so he is part way through NHS procedures. Whether all connected or not, his prostate situation clearly needs resolving first in a step by step approach.

Whilst I'm generally anti-meds, I don't know why he's been taken off them. I'd recommend you/he gets a full explanation though.

The key imo is not to worry and focus on each step. Keep us posted on here if possible.

Good luck.

I couldn’t agree with you more, I’m also anti meds to a point if there’s another way to go diet etc would do that but obv if he needs them then would never stop unless told but he was by two dif drs, the reason they gave was his blood sugars were normal for a while and he had changed his life style so was taken off them all, I did think whoa from all that to zilch, but that’s what he was told so he did it, and now we find this out about the kidneys etc, obv they have found lesion that they want to look further into so that’s got to be sorted first, and the kidney etc blood tests are being done hopefully tomorrow, so will be able to say much more when both results come back , I will keep you informed
