Y son 56 years old) a dyalysis patient)Has been on hydrocortisone for a long time. In spite of being skin on bone his face is like a moon. I’m under the impression that steroids do this.
I would think it is probably due to salty diet or even allergies to something in your bed if it's in the morning. Maybe laundry detergent or dust mites.
Sometimes people feel they don't eat much salt because they don't use their salt shaker much, but many foods are extremely high in sodium.
Prednisone shouldn't make your eyes puffy. I took high doses for over ten years. I had a moon face which is normal at higher doses but no puffy eyes.
You can put cool compress or cucumber slices over your eyes for about ten minutes and it should help the puffiness abate.
I noticed in an older post that you mention "bulging eyes". Have you had your thyroid checked? Hyperthyroid can cause bulging eyes and puffiness. Your PCP can check it for you and refer you to an Endocrinologist if needed. Good luck.
Yes i ve checked, the test is normal , it is not due to my day because whole day my eyes are in same puffiness, i done eat processed food and make my food at home with low salt I don’t know why 💔😭
I'm sure your Dr. will know. Is there a reason you don't call the office and ask? You wouldn't even need an appt. if you've been in recently and had recent labs.
I had puffy eyes due to the specific type of kidney disease I had..nephrotic syndrome- FSGS...this does cause swelling of the eyes and legs ankles etc....later I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism which got so bad before they found it I was inches from slipping into a coma I was told(myxedema coma) that caused a lot of swelling and eventually fat deposits under the eyes...nothing i could do about the fat deposits but later, many years later, had blepharoplasty ...which worked wonderfully. ..What was your original diagnosis that led to transplant? .....I see everyone has suggested cutting out salt from your diet. You can also try sleeping with your head raised with multiple pillows. ..Did your doctors run a full thyroid panel? Not just tsh but t3 and t4 etc? My thyroid and my mothers is so erratic sometimes the tsh shows as normal but when full panel is done it shows as abnormal...Maybe see an endocrinologist?... and if you haven't spoken to your regular doctor about it do so...if you have, bring it up again....I wish you luck. Take care!
Hello Advidkc. I looked up puffy eyes online and found this WebMD site that has some information. You should still ask your family doctor, as it may be caused by anything as simple as an allergy to something in your home, or possibly even be due to an infection. Either way, I would suggest you seek your doctor’s help in addressing it so you can find some relief. I suffer from fluid retention because of CKD. I use absolutely no salt at all in my cooking. There is already so much sodium in our food these days.
I hope you find this information below helpful dear. Please let us know how you come along. All my best to you. God bless. 🙏
Hi Advidkc!I know your post is older, but can you tell me if your eye puffiness has gone down in the meantime and how long it lastet?
I developed also puffiness (from water retention) under my eyes while taking a very very high dose of prednisolone for 17 days in January. The eye bags are still there after 6 months and I suffer a lot, because before I had never ever swollen eyes and now I look always ill, ugly and much older.
It´s definitely due to prednisolone (after eating a lot of salty food, no doctor told me to avoid salt and carbs) and I have also had this confirmed by several doctors. Some say it could last 6 to 12 months, so I still hope.... I just could find one report from a woman also affected, she also wrote her eye bags went away after stopping pred within 6 to12 months.Mine have worsened a lot in May and also now again during great summer heat. I am afraid, that it could stay forever.
