Met New nephrologist who gave me an appt away right when he heard I was sick. Met him yesterday: very kind, very reasonable, and is in a group practice that believes in working toward wellness with healthy diet, exercise and life. He gave me clear cut instructions about my medication (cutting it in half) , water, and charting food. He also said that he is available fir for assistance any time if needed.. While im heartbroken over the big drop in my GFR due to side effects of the recent BP med changes, he reassured me that he will help me stop the progression and hopefully get back to prior levels. Keeping fingers crossed. And, seeing new primary for 2nd time at 11 today. Thanks for listening.

Great news. All doctors should be like that!

Sounds terrific. A very good start to building a supportive Care Team. Continued success and keep us posted as things develop.

I’m so glad that you’ve had a good initial visit! I too am now moving on to a new nephrologist. My PCP referred me to the new nephrologist this past Monday. I just called her this morning, as per her request, to let her know that I haven’t yet heard from the new nephrologist. Hopefully I’ll hear soon. Waiting is hard when I know that I may need a catheter placement surgery shortly.

Okey! I just had a call from the new nephrologist’s office. I have an appointment. He has looked at my labs and dies NOT think I’m at crisis point with dialysis. My PCP has consulted with him and told him about the vitamin d toxicity and various other issues. I’ve got to wait a few weeks for the appointment. But I see that as a good thing given that he’s looked st my last three labs and thinks I’m doing fairly well as my body is gradually resolving the toxicity.

So, now time to calm down. The nurse was good, thorough with good patient rapport. He and my PCP clearly do work together. And the dialysis center with which he works has and uses the cycler that will work well for me with my visual impairment, etc. I’m expecting that I’ll look back on this situation in a few months and be thankful that I was forced to make this change by the Davita clinic nurse.

Hopefully I’ll be able to sleep better tonight and over the weekend.

Jayhawker, 5-6 mos ago, I suddenly lost access to H.U. and was so troubled because the members here proved my "lifeboat" after my initial stage 3 ckd diagnosis. The continued support and provided links have been my best and most trusted guidance in learning how to better navigate this now nearly two year journey.

Just as suddenly, about 3-4? weeks ago, a H.U. post appeared in my regular e-mail and I was truly overjoyed to be back. The posts hadn't gone to my Spam folder and I couldn't find a way to get reinstated....I'm still celebrating!

Now to read of drmind's and your experiences with new docs is the most heartening thing possible. Change is very difficult for me but I will be asking for a new nephrologist at my next annual with my pcp.

Your news is so heart lifting! To find a pcp and neph. who will work together is terrific news and it sounds as though your new doc has given you the best news possible in allaying your fears by the reassurance that you are not at a crisis point!

I am so very, very happy for your news and hope that each night will find you sleeping much better now that you know you have a good team forming.

None ever needed!

Absolutely fabulous news, drmind!! So incredibly happy that you've found a new nephrologist that sounds so willing to consider the "whole person" as well as be responsive as needed. Now, to keep fingers crossed that your new pcp doc will prove as interested and helpful!

I'll be asking for a referral to a new nephrologist at my next annual with pcp and can only hope the referral will put me with someone like the gem you seem to have found. Great, great news!

Hope you'll share how the second visit with your new pcp visit goes as well.

Do you get Procrit injections?
