Should I be concerned?

I have an ultrasound appointment on Friday but my blood serum creatinine was 1.1 and my GFR was 54 after 3 months. My urine creatinine was 398 mg/dL. Should I be concerned? To me that seems like stage 3 CKD.

Your ordering physician should have explained the purpose of the ultrasound. If not, call tomorrow and ask. What underlying causes of CKD do you have?

I was originally have blood work done for extreme fatigue and unexplained weight loss. I also have been experiencing dizziness, nausea, lower back and right side abdominal pain, and insomnia. I have had an increase in headaches but have been treated for migraines for 16+ years.

The ultrasound is to look for any signs of kidney stones or any abnormalities in my kidneys.

Have you had previous blood and urine labs? What was your GFR and serum creatinine for those? One lab with a low GFR doesn't indicate CKD. It will take several draws for the physician to determine where you are with CKD and the ultrasound is but one diagnostic test.

The two leading causes of CKD are diabetes and high blood pressure.

Best of luck

I have had blood work done each month for the last three months. My GFR started out at 59 and has progressed downward instead of upward. I have had urine tests in the past but I don’t remember ever having a problem with the results. I do not have the typical diabetes or high blood pressure, in fact my blood pressure is unusually low. Thank you for you input.

Well it is certainly worth having the ultra sound so that you doctor can see if you have any kinks in the pipework or stones. I had one when my kidney function was dropping and it is normal practice for doctors to request one in the event of people having lower than normal kidney readings.

My nephrologist ordered an ultrasound as a part of the original tests when I was referred in to him for a consult. It was just to rule out anything internal like kidney stones etc that could cause the decrease I was experiencing with my renal function.

The procedure was simple.

It sounds like your doctor is doing the testing needed to determine what is going on with your data.

A milder stage 3A. They say the cutoff is 1 for the creatinine. Disease consider

under 60 in eGFR so this is a little slow. Watch your sodium intake. And stay hydrated.
