Not braggin', but I must be doing something right

Today I went for lab work. I really worried as I always do before a lab. Did not sleep even last night. Already got the results in my patient portal.....wait for it...

My regular GFR went up 3 points. The new calculation with cystatin- C GFR was even better, up five points. My GFR has not been to 18 in years.... YEARS....and my creatinine continues to decline. Not as good as the GFR but still going downward. Hemoglobin, iron and other minerals all improved slightly.

Yeah for low protein, mostly plant-based eating and working out. Wish I was losing weight. But 2 more points upward and I am off the transplant list anyways..... hahaha.

This is great news!!! Congrats!

I’ve got labs tomorrow. I’m hoping for another GFR of 19 which could be above 20 with the new calculation as well. If so, I’d imagine my transplant nephrologist will want to move me from active to inactive status on the transplant waitlist. My GFR has been pretty consistently 19 for close to s year now. It has also been 20 once and 21 once over the past year.

🤞

I don't think you will be removed from the transplant list. My eGFR is 20 and I just got activated. At some point they changed the rules. I was eligible because my EGFR had dropped to 5 from an acute episode. They told me since I had CKD and ESRD was inevitable that you can get on the list if it ever dropped below 20. I still have a 6 year wait for a kidney and everyone agrees my GFR isn't going to go up, only down.

Well.....Barbara, they told me in 2018 that I had 6 months until I would HAVE to be on dialysis. Guess what , they were WRONG! And for the last four years, I have bounced from 17 to 13 to 15 to 13 and now I am at 16 with the same test and 18 with the new test..... and my medical center puts you on inactive when you go to 20. I too have a 6-7 year wait unless I find a donor. I hope you stay well.

That’s absolutely wonderful! I’m doing the plant-based - mostly plant-based for over a year now but unfortunately my GFR keeps dropping and my creatinine is now at 4.2. Also my potassium and phosphorus are usually mid line but this time are at the high end of normal. I’m very anemic as well. Not sure what else I can do because I have a genetic kidney disease. I don’t have contributing factors like diabetes or obesity that can be controlled to help improve kidney function.I’d love any suggestions however!
