Rare renal cell carcinoma of right kidney that have had almost 2 years which wasn't caught on CT in 2018. Fortunately it is slow growing. Have to wait until June or later for kidney removal. No chemo or radiation needed. Not sure if removal will cause me to have to have emergency catheter and HD started. Still need another try at AV fistula surgery when allowed. Did buy short term disability for 2020, so by June the six-month pre-existing condition wait time will be over!!! My job has been cut by 2 hours a day due to Covid-19. Have already applied online for partial unemployment as still got to pay bills and insurance premiums. God Bless Everyone!!! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

I had bladder cancer. Surgically removed in 2015. Only 8% of us (including me) had the type of bladder cancer that automatically leads to kidney cancer. Further, the only remedy is immediate surgical removal. I now have one kidney. I'm 80 years old with an eGFR of 27-31. I control my intake of protein, 95% which is plant-based. I understand that is the opposite of those on dialysis. Also, with RCC (renal cell carcinoma), I believe if caught early, tumors can be surgically removed, this saving the kidney. Since you are still in the workforce, do you perform dialysis at night? Best wishes!!

I am not yet on dialysis but wonder if having kidney removed will further diminish my renal function and cause me to go on dialysis.

That is not a bad eGFR; I wish I had it. My dad died from spread of bladder cancer after they had removed the bladder and both kidneys and he urinated in a bag. It had spread to his lymph nodes but he was advised to do chemotherapy which was the real death of him and totally unnecessary. Still bitter that we were never told it was in his lymph nodes. He failed chemo and stopped altogether and had one good month and then was hospitalized for a couple of months because the cancer had spread. He came back to our local hospital under hospice care and passed away two days later with family all around him. He was only in his late 60s. I am waiting for surgery to remove right kidney but have to wait until June because of Covid-19. Still I have no symptoms unless I stand up for a long time or overexert myself and then both kidneys hurt.
