So recently my sister (shes 9) was diagnosed with CKD stage 5. Her efgr was12 and creatinine was 6.0. Blood urea 236.But surprisingly the doctor did not start her dialysis treament but rather gave her medicines for a month. After taking a week's medicine her efgr is 13 and creatinine is 4.81 and blood urea is 131. I want to know what he is trying to do.He told me that he would prescribe us medicines for 3 months and my sister would get better time by time.

How sad to be so young. Do you know what the medications are? Just curious but I am glad it is working. I think the doctor is trying to hold off dialysis and maybe get her body in better health. Fabulous if it is working and keeps working.
Have her doctors suggested how this would happen without any signs or symptoms to indicate that there was a problem sooner? Or have they looked into why this would be happening to a child so young? Could this possibly have been brought on by undetected, advanced dehydration? It is a little shocking to hear, but I’m with the others as well, with regard to the medications if they are working, which they appear to be. So, for that, I am very glad! I wish your sister and your family all the best, and will definitely have her in my thoughts and prayers. Perhaps I am a little nutty sometimes, but I don’t think it’s too much to ask the heavens every now and again to send us a cure, is it? It’s certainly worth a try, I say, if only for the children, huh? Please do keep us posted on her progress. God bless! 🙂
The doctor told us that it had left undetected and was a long time problem. It is a problem since her birth and sadly we came to know about this now.Btw i do appreciate your kind words alot. You dont know how much this means to me. God bless your soul <3
Hello again! I thank you very much for your kind wishes as well! Again, I am so sorry to hear that your sister has been burdened with this issue from birth. I admit, I was somewhat puzzled by the fact that she is only 9 years of age and at end stage. I was diagnosed about 10 or 11 years ago and I am at end stage, but I’m 50. And also, I have other existing health issues that contributed to this. I just want you to know that I am going to keep the prayers and thoughts coming. We’re here for you! God bless. 👍😊
There is a support group for parents and family of children with CKD. You are welcome here of course, but this group might have insight of what your family is going through.
Best wishes maverick. It is very saddening to hear someone so young. My daughter got seriously sick when she was 9yo. She's doing ok now but it always makes me very sad when I hear these stories. But I trust with your family's support you will get through this difficult moment as best you can.
I don't know exactly why and am guessing. But sometimes they don't put people on dialysis until they're gfr 7 or 8. He may be trying to delay the process as long as he can by giving medicine to slow down the progression and delay the date of dialysis starting.
I really hope your sister can get the treatment she needs. I'm not sure if transplant is possible?
