So I need dialysis. What's the difference of process between a central line and a PD line? I know where and how they are fixed on but not sure what the difference in process is? I'm already on Immunosuppressant so I'm concert by infection. Thanks

Dialylsis
A central venous catheter, also known as a central line, central venous line, or central venous access catheter, is a catheter placed into a large vein. Catheters can be placed in veins in the neck, chest, groin, or through veins in the arms. Wikipedia
The PD line as you refer to it is: A PD catheter is a flexible, plastic tube (about the length of a ruler and the width of a pencil) that allows dialysis fluid (called dialysate) to enter the abdominal cavity, pull toxins through the small blood vessels that are in the lining of the abdomen and organs, and then drain the used dialysate back out again.
Both referenced above are taken from Wikipedia.
I'm CKD 4, so I'm not ready for HD or PD. However, if DaVita dialysis centers are in your area, consider taking their free 2-hour "Kidney Smart" seminar. Often these are scheduled on Saturday mornings. You'll leave with an armload of material that just about answers anything you need to know about available dialysis methods -- including pros and cons.
I would highly suggest going to kidneyschool.org and going through their educational modules which explain all about PD and HD and everything inbetween. Also there is a book called Help! I need dialysis. This can be found at MedicalEducationInstitute.com or HomeDialysisCentral.org Best of luck.
