I have hypertension possibly due to CKD according to my doctors. Found out a couple of weeks ago that I’m pregnant so doctors switched me from Benazepril 40 to Amlodipine 5 to Nifedipine 60.
Took them today and boy my heart starts racing. Looked it up and possible side effect is Tachycardia. This made me stay in bed for hours as I feel weak and dizzy.
Anyone here had the same effect taking the meds?
Thank you.

I concur with Bassetmommer. As regards the "possible" CKD, the doctor should be able to pin that down with a blood test. CKD isn't common in women of child bearing age, but you may be an exception. Did your high BP show up prior to the pregnancy, and how high was it? My wife had blood pressure problems during each of her pregnancies, but she didn't have CKD. Since you just found out you were pregnant, I'm assuming, it's quiet early in your pregnancy. I'm also assuming you just recently learned of your high blood pressure. I, also, looked up Nifedepine, and it gave me pause. I hope you can have a heart to heart with the doctor. Perhaps, he can reassess your condition, maybe he'll reconsider his course of treatment based upon your new symptoms, or reassure you.
I’m 33 and I’ve had issues with my blood pressure since I was in my early 20’s. At first, they couldn’t figure out what’s causing my high blood pressure and protein in the urine. And just a few years ago when I changed my career to medical coding, I got anxiety attack from reading charts and sent myself to ER. From there, doctor diagnosed me with CKD due to my given history.
My BP now is around 140/100 even in resting stage and meds. It sucks. Worries me. I have an appointment with my OB in 3 weeks and will let her know my readings.
I’ve read the other thread about cutting meat. I’ll stick with chicken, egg whites, and veggies and see if there’s any improvement.
If you guys have any suggestions or opinion about my current situation, please let me know. I’m knew to being pregnant with CKD and hypertension.
