Hi, I was stage 3 a for at least 16 years at 51 GFR. In last couple months I’m down to 43 GFR. I have a constant pain on left side a couple inches down from rib cage. Do you think it’s kidneys or something else

Have t had urine test recently. Drs seem to ignore GFR. I have been diagnosed with autoimmune disease

It is certainly possible that your kidney(s) are inflamed and setting off your pain receptors due to the decline in function. You mention an autoimmune disease; do you know what one? Kidney disease itself is classified as one, which is why I ask. I would recommend insisting on testing and updates on your labs to make sure that changes don't need to be made. Good luck.

Thanks. The autoimmune is called APS (short for something I can’t spell) it’s a blood clotting autoimmune disease, still being tested for lupus, which is also associated with that. Hoping it’s not affecting kidneys. Guess I need to get back to my primary care doc.

CKD alone does not cause pain. So my guess it is something else. Did you have urine and blood tests done recently? Sometimes when there is blood in your urine it could be a sign of infection or a kidney stone. I would call your doctor/nurse on Monday and let them know about your pain. They could always repeat blood and urine labs and see if they can figure out the cause of the pain. In the meanwhile, keep track of your blood pressure and see if you are running a temp, even a low grade one. Report this to them when you call.

Let us know how you are doing. Good luck and hope the pain goes away
