Hi and welcome, Beckieswedding18 :)

I'm afraid dieting is generally doomed to failure, as it tends to be given an end date and too many restrictions on quantity, putting the body into starvation mode. This will explain healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

My advice is to get a personal calorie allowance from the NHS BMI calculator and aim for the upper end of the scale nhs.uk/Tools/Pages/Healthyw...

Then join our daily diary and get started on a healthier lifestyle, which will be sustainable, beyond your daughter's wedding :)

I understand its a lifelong thing. However for me my first goal is the wedding and having more space in my seat on the 24hour flight😊I am a person who needs goals. We are all different I suppose. I've organised my meals today and added to my food diary.baby steps but a start. 😊

Ooh a wedding - how exciting!

I know we are all different, Beckieswedding18 , but don't dismiss the NHS 12 week plan without having a good look and reading some of the comments from people who have got started with it. I would say the vast majority have lost 1-2lb per week on the plan, which could mean up to 24lb you could lose before the big day!!

moreless didn't mean you shouldn't try, she meant (I think) that we try not to use the term diet on here, as it has negative connotations, and implies a limited time span, whereas I for one (as a Maintainer) know it's a plan for a new way of life. Since I began here nearly two years ago, I have never felt I was on a diet, I have enjoyed all my food, lost weight, and finally at the age of 66 feel (weight-wise) that I am where I should have been years ago!

So please join in with us, join a weekly weigh-in, and start your weight loss journey here. (I would add a smiley face if I knew how on this computer! x)

Hi Beckieswedding18 and welcome.

You can easily lose a stone in 12 weeks. I've been on my weight loss journey for six and a half years now, and have lost a total of 4 and a half stone (about 5lbs in excess at the moment!)

My advice would be ensure that what you do eat is providing the right sort of nutrition. Many low calorie/reduced fat foods have added sugars/sweeteners, etc - to replace the flavour that has been removed in modifying them to make them "lower calorie".

I have gone back for the first time in my life to eating "full fat" - Greek yogurt, butter, soured cream, cheese, etc... BUT all in much smaller quantities. I have cut right down on the amount of rice and pasta I eat - I use wholewheat pasta and brown rice when I have them, and only 50g dry weight (which I measure out). I hardly every eat bread and find now that I don't miss it - I'd rather have a salad or home made soup to a sandwich (far fewer calories, more filling and sustains me for longer).

I have also tried to cut out altogether snacking in between meals... which I'm not perfect with, but I do my best! Mainly avoid having "snacking materials" in the house!

I absolutely have choice and control over what I can eat. Over the course of my weight loss journey I realise that sometimes that means I have to make choices that are very different to "old me", but that has been part of the journey to the final destination.

There are no "forbidden foods", there are no "specific requirements" - sticking within calories and how you manage to do that is entirely up to you, whether it's earning lots of additional calories through exercise - or meal replacements. The main aim is to chose your rate of loss and activity level and log your food stringently (which gets much easier the longer you are here!)

Please do pop back to the forums and share your journey with us - we are here for you, day and night and happy to share your success or support you when you need it.

And all the best for losing that stone!

If you have a short goal and you think you can put the work in; I'd suggest cutting calories even more, while avoiding as much sugar and processed foods as possible and at the same time ramping up the exercise you do each week until the week before the wedding then relax, but still moderate your calories.
