I have three stone to lose and generally manage to lose 7 lbs then put it back on again, so hoping making myself more accountable will push me further along. I gave up alcohol by using an online forum to connect with others and my situation with bingeing on sugar feels very similar, ie emotional dependence. Thanks for being there!

Hi and welcome, Slimmer24 :)

I was a sugar junkie when I arrived here and found eliminating it from my diet, the only way to avoid the addiction. Others are able to moderate their consumption. You'll need to find which camp you fall in :)

To make navigating the forum easier, we've put all the information you'll need in a newbie pack and here's the link

Please take the time to read it carefully, so that you're able to enjoy everything that we have on offer.

We ask that you also read this important information about internet privacy and security, especially as you've left your post unlocked.

Hi Slimmer24 , I was in a similar situation when I started, the same half stone coming and going. I would have been very happy lose lose a stone and for it to stay lost.

I found the 12 week plan a great introduction for me: it helped me get a grip, see the calorie value of things, make changes step by step. By the end, I'd made several changes that I knew I could live (happily live) with, and that I wouldn't be going back.

If you are going to go down that route, it's essential that you get a personalised calorie range from the NHS BMI calculator and use it well, keeping to the upper end of that range.

The only other thing I would say is take some time to read the link Moreless has provided, then find your way to a weigh-in on a day of your choice, give yourself 15 mins a day to come here, read what people are posting, join in chats, use the Daily Diary to log your meal plans, and use everything else here that will help you on your way.

Hi Slimmer24, I am also new to this forum and need to lose about 3 stone. I lost a stone last year with Slimming World but have put 5lbs on again (summer holidays, what can I say!) I've taken the dreaded before photos to try to give myself some motivation and will weigh and measure myself tomorrow before going shopping for all my healthy food. For once I am feeling quite positive. What exercise do you do, if any?

Hey anniecee, great work losing that stone. I have been going to the gym but eating like a horse when i get back and I have found I actually put weight on, self sabotaging...I enjoy walking and have a dog so am extending his normal walks and that seems to have less of an effect where I want to eat to compensate. It just seems like the devil on my shoulder is determined for me to work against myself. I was like this when I used to drink and it wasn't til I reached rock bottom that I got angry enough to kick it. I think fattening and sugary food is just as addictive. Hope we can get this sorted anniecee, rooting for us both and everyone here that's similarly fed up xx

Hello anniecee and welcome to the weight loss forum.

I'd like to invite you to join the Sunday Super Slimmers weigh-in group. We're a chatty, supportive group and always love to see a Newbie. The link below will help you find us in the morning.

When you're planning your shopping, think in terms of fresh ingredients, plenty of veg (fresh and frozen), fruit, fish and meat (if you eat them) and healthy fats such as eggs, cheese, avocado, nuts. Steer clear of processed foods and anything low fat, low cal or "diet". See my comments above to Slimmer24 about using the 12 week plan and getting the correct calorie range, if that's what you choose.

To help you navigate the forum, we’ve put all the information you’ll need in a Newbie pack. Spend a few minutes reading this as it gives a full picture of the support and information available. Here's the link healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

To get the most out of the forum, come here as often as possible. It's all free, open daily and the only requirement is to get involved and encourage others, as the forum runs on mutual support.

And here's something about privacy and security online healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Wishing you all the best and hoping to see you around the forum

By the way, it would be interesting to know how you found your way to this forum :)
