Why can't I do this ?

I feel like I'm a fraud or twit or both probably. I am still going between 14st 2 to 13st 13 never any lower. I'm back at 14st 2 again . It really doesn't seem to matter how I do things, really low calories or higher end of recommended calories makes no difference. OH says I don't move enough do around 6000 steps a day. i have under active thyroid but doctor says levels are ok. Any ideas please. 😕

Without knowing what you're eating, Lizzie, it's difficult for us to comment, so I suggest you log onto the Daily Diary, so that we can have a look at your menus.

You could also get more involved in forum life, as that has a motivating effect and there are always lots of good ideas floating around, so join today's weigh-in and our exercise challenges, to help you increase your step count.

It may also be an idea to post your latest blood test on the ThyroidUK forum, to see if they agree that your levels are optimal.

I'm sure that between us, we'll come up with the right formula :)

I wouldnt beat yourself up too much. Having hypothyroidism makes it really tough to lose weight. What i have done in the past if i fall in a rut is have about a week eating the highest amount of calories, not weighing myself. Then drop back down to the lower amounts again. Sometimes it can give your metabolism a but of a shock and get it doing what its supposed to be doing again. But moreless is right it could be the kinds of food you are eating. I wish you all the best. And dont lose hope xx

I'm with moreless lizziep

If you have time, try and involve yourself more, especially in the Daily Diary and it makes it easier for people to see trends etc...

Don't get down (easier said than done... I know) and keep working at it. You're definitely neither a fraud nor a twit. Learning how to manage this complex mechanism, called our body, isn't a straight forward thing but there's always a way.

Lizziep I am most definitely in the same boat as you, gp says my thyroid is playing up but not so bad as to have medication .....started diets many times and weight not changed. So in Jan I tried 12wk plan and thought I’d see what happens in 3months, I lost 2kg very slowly for 4wks then nothing for 5wks and then another 1kg after 3wks....it’s really demotivating but it’s 3kg less than doing nothing at all. Most people could have shifted a stone but slow and steady and all that....chin up chick! Eating well and exercising will be good for us generally:) just a thought that it might not change weight for a while....over 1-2months but slowly the good habits will do something. I upped my exercise from zero to 2-3hrs intense a week and I feel much more toned but didn’t shift scales-do as much as you can but don’t beat yourself up. Don’t blame yourself, try and see it as a new way.

I like your positive attitude Maxi3 I don't know anything about hyperthyroidism but I do know there are people like yourself finding a way forward.

Those 3 kilos are still a lot of weight and you won't ever have to carry it again.

Nice reply!

Hi lizziep and welcome :)

I too have an under-active thyroid, have been on medication for 30+ years so I know how you are feeling.

I went to weight watchers all those years ago and lost it all but, I do believe that a good part of that was due to having a family at home and I was always running around. Since this last weight gain I have tried everything, Weight \Watchers, Slimming World (am paid up to end of this month) then I came here

I tried eating as much as I was allowed and struggled to get into the lower range, I lost, gained and stayed the same, this went on for a couple of months then I decided to give it all up and eat what and when I wanted

I no longer eat when the clock tells me but when my body tells me I'm hungry, I still keep a record of what I eat and without trying I have more or less the same calorie intake each day and I'm losing slowly but surely. I hit my 1 stone mark on Saturday and that is the best I have ever done

I have other health problems (lots of them) I have mobility problems so I don't do a lot of mileage a day, in fact sometimes my step count is very low due to a bad day pain wise so I agree with moreless and suggest you log on to the Daily Diary

You will get so much help and support here and maybe even find your own way of eating, like I have. It's a game of trial and error, we are not all the same, but I'm sure, with the wonderful advice on here you will lose weight

Good luck in your weight loss and keep posting :)
