Hi everyone, I have been in chronic pain for years now and have finally been diagnosed with osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia.. I have very limited mobility.. I am also in remission for hodgkin's lymphoma for 15 months now and I am seriously struggling to lose any weight... My husband is my carer and does cook balanced meals and slimming world meals.. I am on tramadol 8 a day and gabapentin 12 a day, I know that people put weight on with these.. I am getting so depressed with my weight gain and my legs are so swollen with fluid and just will not go... I really am at one of my lowest points in my life.. My husband and family don't know how I feel, I have tried to talk to them about things but they just say you are fine... Please help x

Hi and welcome, Andrea :)

I'm sorry to hear about your medical problems and wonder if these communities may also be able to help you?

healthunlocked.com/fibromya...

healthunlocked.com/arthriti...

Although I'm not medically qualified, I have read that reducing carbs can help with both of these conditions, but you would need to get advice from your GP and do your own research.

I'd like to invite you to join our Newbie Club, which we hope will be a good place for you to connect with members, who are also just starting out. If you just post a few words to introduce yourself and respond to others there, you'll soon break the ice. Here's the link

You'll find all the information you need to navigate the forum in the header, so please take the time to read it carefully.

Wishing you all the best :)

Hi Andrea and welcome. Sorry to hear about everything you're going through. I hope you can find a way of getting your feelings fully appreciated by your family, you shouldn't have to feel alone.

I have no knowledge of how your medicines are effecting you so all I can say, is to follow the links that moreless has provided and speak to your gp.

On top of that, it's worth checking your required calorie intake (for weight loss) and then keep a diary and see how your actual intake compares.

All the best and stay posting as there'll always be someone here to listen to you.

Hi Andrea_75 Gosh you are going through the mill with your health issues - can I suggest arthritis uk's web site, they produce and regularly update their booklets on managing your pain, healthy eating, exercise etc and some hospitals have groups that you can join, as it's been shown that feeling more in control of your situation can help you with the other areas of your life. I think you will find this forum very supportive to help you with your weight loss journey to a healthier way of life. I expect your family struggle to know what to say to you to help you but want you to know they are there for you. You could ask your GP about CBT which can help and I have found the app headspace to be really helpful you may be able to find a free 12 week trial which I did, I then went on to purchase a years membership as I was so impressed at the change in my depressive thoughts after just 3wks and it only takes 10 mins a day. Good luck with everything :)
