Hi and welcome, oconnor :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.

Be advised, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Hi Oconnor

It's sad that you were bullied for being overweight but I really admire your attitude in choosing to put that aside and coming here to deal with it. That's a big step, so well done you! ⭐️

One of the main challenges with dieting is wondering what to eat, especially for your main meal. I'm doing my own calorie controlled diet and my main meal is in the evening. So I devised a plan that would ensure I had healthy and nutritious meals without having to think too hard of what to have and without too much hard work involved in preparation.

So to that end, for three main meals each week I will always have the same thing every week as that saves me wondering what to have all the time, then for the remaining four meals I have a great recipe book where the meals are all easy to prepare and cook and very tasty and nutritious.

Further more, all these meals are done in one pan, pot or baking tray, so hardly any washing up 😀 It all just slots into place and makes my diet and life a lot easier. Also, I keep a journal and write down everything I have, then if my diet stalls, like now, I can return to one of the more successful weeks and repeat that.

Good luck on your diet, you'll soon see the pounds falling if you plan ahead a little.

I never used to lose weight before joining here. At first I was eating less calories in a day than the bmi index advised me to have and I was losing nothing. When I mentioned it in a post someone here asked me how many calories I was eating. I told them and they told me I wasn't eating enough which is why I am losing nothing because your body believes you are starving it so what you do eat it turns into body fat to ensure it can carry on. Body fat weighs more than calories which is why I tended to put on weight more than lose it. Now, I am eating more than before as I am eating the right amount of calories and I am finally losing weight.
