Eating times/patterns help.

Been M. I. A for two days, I apologise had a bit of bad news so haven't done the diary. Back at it Today though.

Just after some advice, so I mentioned on the 8th that I work nights. 11pm till 7am and normally get home about 8am. We have break at 1am and obviously I'm going to need to eat but I don't know what order I should do my food in now.

Like do I mix up the normal breakfast, lunch, dinner routine and do it backwards?

Any advice welcome 😊 really want to sort this to have better eating habits

The different things we eat at different times is cultural. Eat whatever you want.

Try not to have a meal close to bedtime.

It it was me, I'd would try two meals a day, standard dinner at dinner time, a similar meal at 1am,and straight to bed when I got home. I do time restricted eating.

Just a suggestion.

Sorry about your news

Hi Busy-Rice,

I think you need to do what feels right for you.

When my hubby does a night shift, he eats a late dinner, nothing through the night and occasionally a breakfast, if he feels hungry.

I think it's important to eat when you're hungry and stop when you're full, which has little to do with 'meal times', or traditional meals for those times. Yesterday my hubby had homemade soup for his 'breakfast'.

Always be prepared with a homemade packed meal, so you're not tempted by canteen food, or vending machine snacks.

Sometimes I take set meals with me but it's normally just like a sandwich and fruit. But then working in a shop where you see all the goodies makes me want to buy everything I see 😂

If you have access to a microwave, I'd be inclined to have a proper meal. You'll be less likely to be tempted by the junk food :)

I once worked in an office without a microwave (it was a Regis office, so lots of different companies, and I think they learnt that no microwave means no culture clashes if someone doesn't like the smell of someone else's food).

Anywho....I invested in a wide mouth thermos. So add about 5 minutes to my morning ritual...pour boiling water to warm flask, microwave leftovers, pack it and a fork to enjoy a few hours later. It was actually as easy as microwaving at work, and the thermos never leaked.

Other days I had salad, which also didn't require a microwave.

Just suggestion that might help... Busy-Rice

Yes we have a microwave and a toasty maker and a kettle.

Shifts must be really difficult, and have no words of wisdom. I think you’ll need to experiment with different things until you find what works, but I think moreless’s suggestion is one I’d try first, a decent meal before work and then a lighter meal at work, then straight to bed when I got home 😊

Hi Busy Rice,

We're all different but, when I did nights 9pm to 8am , I would eat my meals in my non work time so, usually slept till 3 pm and would eat after that. I would maybe have something small like a bag of crisps during the night, that was all. I wasn't really hungry at work and my rota was 2 or 3 nights on then the same off and sometimes a run of days so, I couldn't readily get into a night time plan.
