new and in need of direction!

Hello, last week I decided I wanted to begin my weight loss journey, the principles of the slimming world diet worked for me in the past so I thought I'd follow those general rules. But blast it! I weighed today and I've gained a pund😞 I am suffering from a heavy cold but still didn't think I would put on weight as I haven't eaten any fried food or crisps or much bread etc.

So looking for healthy eating ideas that will help me loose weight! (I need to loose 60-70lb).

Hello Dizzykate and welcome to the weight loss forum ☺ it's frustrating when the scales refuse to co-operate 😕 I'm afraid I don't know much about SW so can't comment on that, but I can welcome you to the forum ☺

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for ☺

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page ☺

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask ☺

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ☺

Best wishes

Anna

Take it easy after having the cold as it could do you more harm than good if engaging in strenuos exercise. Take it a day at a time and don't worry if you don't lose. Your diet just might need tweaking a little to get it right.

I get most of my recipes from the Change 4 life website and the others from the British Heart Foundation web site. The recipes are well balanced and if you stick to the recomended amounts the calories are already counted for you.

Good luck on your journey and welcome to the group :)

Thank you for your kind words, I haven't had any choice but to take it easy and I have been taking cold and flu tablets and cough sweets as well as a good dose or two of brandy!

Well I know I've been eating much healthier than before and getting portions under control. I will take a look at the recipes and hopefully start getting to understand portions a bit better!
