If you join us for this Monday group weigh-in then one of the Fab 5’ers (Prin, Suzybenj, Moreless,LotToLose, and myself, Lowcal) will reply to you. However, please be patient with us, as we do have other commitments, but we will do our very best to get back to you as soon as we can.
Also, I think Suzybenj is on holiday, and I can't remember when she's due back, but I hope she's having a wonderful time!!!
Firstly, many thanks to Prin and the lovely Fab 5’ers for covering last week’s threads so fantastically and doing such a great job! It was lovely to get back and read the threads, and I enjoyed calculating the stats – here they are - they make inspirational reading:
Total people posting on last Monday's thread: 140.
Total overall weight lost: 129.335 pounds (58.67 kilos).
Total people who lost weight: 84 (157.575 pounds lost) (71.47 kilos).
Total people who gained weight: 22 (28.24 pounds gained) (12.8 kilos).
Total people who maintained their weight: 13.
Total people starting out on their weight loss journey/plan: 21.
Total people who didn't disclose their weight gain/loss: 0.
Note for Newbies:
If you are joining this weigh-in group thread for the first time today, then welcome. Just introduce yourself and share your starting weight (if you feel comfortable to do so) and your initial weight loss goals – setting yourself mini-goals leading to your ultimate weight loss goal is particularly helpful. You could also make a note of your body measurements – sometimes the scales stick at a particular weight, but there can be body measurement changes which are very motivating. It’s not all about the scales afterall – it’s how you feel in yourself.
You can always refer to previous weigh-in threads if you want to see what other people typically post (just click on my profile, Lowcal, and you’ll be able to see a list of all previous posts which are all clearly dated).
Also, if you’ve not already seen it, then take a moment to read the ‘Welcome Newbie’ pack which is a Pinned post (situated on right hand side of homepage) which has been collated by Fab 5’er Moreless.
N.B. The Afternoon/Evening Session will be posted at approx midday – and if it has already been posted, then the link will be here:
So, regarding my own weigh-in – I last weighed in on Monday 18th April 2016, and I was 12 stone 13 pounds. I’ve been away for 2 weeks to celebrate my 50th Birthday! I have definitely celebrated!!!! – and today (2nd May 2016) I weigh 13 stone 6 pounds which means I’ve gained 7 pounds in 2 weeks, hence I’ll divide that by 2 to give an average weekly weekly gain of 3.5 pounds per week.
I did manage to keep up with my exercise during my holiday, and infact went to the gym frequently as well as doing lots of walking! Now I’m back into my usual routine, and I hope to get to the gym at least twice this week, and also do some daily walking too. I am planning to cut back on my food and drink intake to sensible portion sizes and healthy choices. I would like to lose at least 3 pounds this week.
Thanks so much for all your kind words regarding my recent Birthday celebrations. I’m in the 50’s Club now, and it feels fine so far!
Wishing you all a great weigh-in!
To those of you having a Bank Holiday today, I hope you all enjoy it! To anyone working – hope your day goes well too.
It's great to be back - Onwards and Downwards!!!

Glad to hear you had a great celebration Lowcal and now back to reality! You really have to experience the fluctuations of weight loss to be able to maintain when your desired weight is reached. You had a great time but can move downward again now. I always put on 7lbs at least when I'm away. Just call it contentment!!!
To those of you who don't know me, when I started out on this site, I weighed in at 18 stone 4.5 lbs. I don't post here very often but always look at your posts each week to not only see how everyone is doing, but to continue collating your great advice & encouragement.
Today I weighed in and have finally got into the 11's. Yayyyyyyyyyy Lowcal I made it!!! To be exact, 11 stone 11 lbs so that's just over 6.5 stone lost! I feel amazing! I also feel confident to be poolside in Bahrain when I go to meet my husband and have a holiday together before he comes home on leave.
However, these past couple of months have been a challenge where whatever I did just didn't budge anything, but never gave up. I looked at the bigger picture (oops, excuse the pun!) and finding my starting out measurements, realised that I had lost 7 inches from my bust, 7 inches from my waist and 8 inches from my hips. A lot of it is now muscle from my gym workouts!
I have finally today set myself a goal weight. Something that I would never do before as it seemed so totally unachievable. I always set myself small goals and targets such as to get into the 17's, to lose my first half stone to get to 17 stone 11.5 lbs, then the first stone, to get into the 16's etc etc. but never did I imagine that today I would be saying "My final stone" I would like to maintain between 10st 7 lbs to 10st 11 lbs.
To all you new ladies & gents, if you have recently joined this forum to help you with weight loss, then you have done it for your own personal reasons. Lowcal & Prin both know that my reason was purely because I fell in love with a blouse that I didn't stand a hope in hell of fitting into, but I wanted that blouse so badly. I decided there & then that if the blouse didn't fit me, then I would fit it! Today I can still wear it over a jumper or tee shirt as a slouch thing, but that was my motivation. You will probably experience challenges along the way, but face up to them, don't let them take away your hearts desire and dreams.
What an amazing and inspirational start to this Monday group weigh-in - I am so happy that you popped by and gave us such fantastic news - I am absolutely thrilled to hear you're into the 11's, Wow, that is really really amazing, and all credit to your diligent focus and commitment to your goal to get into that blouse. Losing a total of 6.5 stones, plus 7 inches off your bust and your waist, and 8 inches off your hips - great that you found your starting measurements to be able to make that comparison.
You will look amazing poolside in Bahrain when you spend some quality time with your lovely hubby, and I hope you are able to see him soon.
For people who don't know you, you were a previous Fab 5'er, and you always hold a soft spot in all our hearts (those of us who know you), and I am really happy to hear your great news to be in the 11's. I hope you celebrate and have a lovely day! Maybe a new piece of clothing or two?
I know you're off to the gym, so have a great work-out, and really good to catch up with you today.
Thanks also for your kind words about my holiday excess - I will do my best to get back on track and I am sure it will come off relatively quickly, all being well.
Have a great week ahead Candystripe!
You've set yourself a really good maintaining window, and good luck with achieving your remaining goal to get there. You will do it, and we will be alongside you to celebrate when you achieve that next step.
Thank you so much Lowcal for your very kind words. It never ceases to amaze me just how supportive this forum is. Having started off my weight loss programme in Lisbon (as you know), I felt quite isolated and because of my size didn't feel confident going to the gym. I had nothing until I found this wonderful, wonderful, wonderful supportive network where everyone carries you along and to be honest, they can be more family than your family! Yes still a way to go, BUT without you all there was no way that I would have got this far. Yes I treated myself to some new gym wear this a.m. A size smaller of course! Thank you all and big hugs XXX
The 11's!!!! WOOHOO!! WTG YOU!!! 6.5st lost! What a remarkable achievement, no wonder you're over the moon! Thank you blouse!! Off you trot to Bahrain and sport that itsy bitsy bikini with pride!
I'm delighted for you, my friend and wish you all the very best for the rest of your journey and your goal of 10st 7lbs
Thank you so much for your lovely words and never ending support. Funnily enough, I have got a two piece to take with me (along with my P.E kit....straight up!) I'm glad you didn't go into the teeny weeny part lol!
Well done to you too my friend and as is our motto here "Onwards and downwards"! XXX
Just realised you started out your journey in Lisbon 😊 Such a lovely city and every journey is like a gym workout with all the hills and steps!! Lol 😊 However the cakes soon take care of any benefit 😕 Still dream of Pastel de Nata . . . Sigh 😊
Thank you so much for your very kind words. I amazed myself too. I was always just one of the many that said "Oh if only I could do it" and that was my exercise and excuse for the day!!!! Wanting something badly enough is all well & good but to have support through the good times and the bad is something really special. We may stumble & fall on occasions and the hardest part isn't losing the weight but getting that motivation back. I hope my post this morning helped even just one person and that would make me very happy.
Good morning Candystripe. Just had to reply to your post and say how motivational I found it. I have been trying hard to lose weight but only needed to lose about a stone and a half. When I read posts where people have lost many many stones like you, I am really inspired by your determination. Such a fantastic achievement and you should be very proud of yourself. Hope you have a fabulous holiday with your husband 😃
Thank you so much for your very kind words. Yes I do feel proud of myself even though it might sound just a wee bit smug, but I just couldn't have done it without the wonderful people on this forum.
For the likes of Lowcal, the fab 5er's and all you lovely people who support the likes of me, I just wish there was a way more fitting than merely saying thank you.
I shall indeed have a lovely holiday and the best part for me these days, (in a whisper), is being able to fit the seat belt on the plane around me!!!
Have a great week and thank you again. Follow your dreams. X
Thank you merrymanda. Without this forum for support and motivation I wouldn't have made it. Still more mountains to climb though!!!! Good luck to you and thank you again. X
Well done Candystripe ! What an amazing achievement! You give inspiration to us all! Loved reading your story, I'm sure its helped a lot of people - me included to realise that we can do it! All the best for the rest of your weight loss journey! 🙌 😁
Thank you so much for your lovely words. Everyone here has to take the credit cos without you all I couldn't have done it. My head was in the right place, I had the motive to want to do it and then just followed everyone's advice, spurned on by their encouragement and support. You just feel that you don't want to let anyone down, not alone yourself and always striving for that next goal. Yes of course you can do it, if I am doing it than anyone can. Good luck and don't forget, follow those dreams. X
My mentor, my beloved mentor. How many times did you tell me that the weight loss police would come knocking on my door lol??? What can I say Prin except I love you loads and only another blooming stone to go. Big hugs & lots of love gal and never stop Desiguing! XXX
Candystripe I am so glad I read your story so inspiring and motivating! Well if you could get into 11 than I definitely going to star behaving and loosing and try to reach 10 maybe we will both get there together!
Dear bakersdozen, thank you so much for your kind words. Yes of course you must start behaving otherwise Prin will send the weight loss police round. I was always so afraid them lol!
I am certainly game for some healthy competition, however these last few pounds have taken me ages. I guess you just cannot lose every week. Give me a few months start eh!
Wishing you so much luck. Don't forget to follow your dreams my Lovely. X
I started behaving myself sorry it sounds like we can't have a race. Lol! I can't wait my Thrush started to flare up and I am too scared to play with time as my period is due any minute and don't want to be in agony due to Edo. So started behaving also I need energy as I don't fancy being in bed all day due to lack of nutrients.
No you're right. Being in bed all day won't help. You need to get out and use up all that soggy energy.......somehow! Give the thrush the bird and a period of time to get into action and go get it girl! X
Thank you LotToLose, it's very kind of you. I'm glad that you have the inspiration to go forward and continue with your quest. It's far easier to lose weight than to live with the regrets if you fail. Just chip away bit by bit and if you fall then find the courage to pick yourself up and start over. Good luck and go get it! X
Fab post and great to read xx congrats on reaching the 11's.
I will always remember your post and the blouse photo and it certainly spurred me on. I've been struggling since January for various reasons but feel ready to start again. You are so right it's about not losing focus and when it all gets a bit hard think back to the start !!
You have had to cross so many bridges over the past months and yet you still stick with it and support others. You are such a star and thank you for your very kind words. Sometimes we just have to take a step back when life throws it blows and continue the best we can but never to lose sight or faith of what we want to achieve.
Stick with it Flossie, I just know that you will get there and good luck XXX
Welcome back Lowcal, we certainly have missed you, monday's just aren't the same without you
As for your weight gain, well fiddle de dee to that! You had a great time whilst you were away and that's the main thing. Those unwanted pounds will be gone in next to no time and you'll be back in the 12's where you belong
At last I can say I've beaten my holiday excesses, by losing 1.625lbs this week - woohoo, what a relief! Mind you, it has taken me 3 weeks to lose 1lb!
I hope everybody has had a good week and if not, not to worry, there's always next week
Thank you! You're very kind to say that. I've missed you all, and last Monday did seem quite strange! I took a complete detox from all internet contact during most of the holiday, and that felt like a good thing, as it means I feel fresher now I'm back.
I love your mention of 'Fiddle de dee' (Scarlett-O-Hara always knows a good retort doesn't she?!) and thankfully you know how to quote her correctly - unlike my failed attempts and Twiddle de dees yesterday (if anyone else is reading this, it was a private joke Moreless and I shared yesterday - showing how much better informed she is on quotes than I am).
You're right, Moreless, I must get back into those 12's - they took a long time to achieve, and I need to get back there!!! I'll do my best this week. But I know it will be tough, as I already miss my extra big breakfasts I was having on holiday! Plus the ice-cream mid afternoon... Oh well...
Congratulations to you for beating your holiday excesses, and to losing 1.625 pounds this week. That is fantastic! I know you have found it a bit challenging getting back from your holiday, and I am sure I will feel the same way this week, as I think it can be tough to reign back and get back on track, but you've shown that persistence is the key, and you've done it! Well done you!!! You are doing so well.
I know what you're saying about nuts, but you know they're packed with so many nutrients, and really good for you in moderation. Very satisfying too.
Have you thought of freezing your nuts? That's not meant to be a joke by the way - I am really serious, they freeze so well and keep fresh that way - useable and you can then hopefully keep a reign on your portion sizes?
It's just a suggestion, as you must do as you wish - and if no longer buying nuts is your decision, then of course you must do that, but I just wanted to suggest an alternative coping strategy, as nuts are power packed with good things.
I'd never thought of freezing nuts! What a great idea! I could put them in little baggies and stop myself from going overboard. Thanks so much for the tip!
Thanks moreless , I've been struggling with my IBS the last few weeks,so can't eat my porridge for breakfast! Can't tolerate much dairy! No grains, so I've been resorting to toasted white bread! Which I love but piles the pounds on!
But I'm feeling better! So I need to make better choices!
Lowcal and Moreless I have to say regular people put weight on on holiday and take it off after so that's what we do to too. Moreless you are back in the grove🎤
Yay, well done Moreless, what a relief indeed. Now you can get back to banishing those pounds as if you were swatting flies (oh, if only it were that easy)!
Oh poor you with flu symptoms, that is horrible. I really hope you feel better soon. Take care and hope you can get some time to recuperate and look after yourself.
Congratulations on your weight loss, but the most important thing is your health, so take care.
Lowcal
Hi Lowcal glad you had a great holiday and I know you'll soon get back on track with the weight loss. A loss of 0.75 pounds this week down to 9 stone 13.5 lbs. I have changed my name to remind me I'm not going back to the tens. Only 1.5 lbs to my initial goal to lose 2 stones by September. I need to start thinking about maintenance and getting into the middle of a healthy bmi. I honestly don't feel that so far has been too difficult but mainly because I am fortunate to be healthy and am able to do a lot of exercise. The calorie deficit has become a way of life and I love it. Thanks again for all your support and advice. Onwards and downwards.
Good morning Zest 😊 Glad to hear you had a good birthday and I feel certain you will soon knock off this cheeky little gain 😕
I was away last weekend so it's a double week for me, last weigh in showed a slight gain, putting me at 72.1 kg, so I am delighted to report this morning I weigh 71.2kg, 900 g off 😊 Which is the previous gain and some more 😊
Feeling bit more optimistic of hitting the 60's for my holiday in two weeks 😊
Good morning everybody! What a cheerful chirpy bunch we are on this bank holiday Monday. ☀️ Happy birthday lowcal. Congratulations on joining the 50's club. It isn't quite as painful as you think it is going to be is it!
Last week I weighed 14 stone 2.5lbs, this week I weigh 14 stone 2lbs, so a loss this week of 1/2lb.
I have set a mini goal of 2.5lbs which will take me down into the next stone and a slightly longer goal of 7lbs in 8 weeks ready for my holiday in July.
Hope you had a great (warm & dry) holiday Lowcal! And a fab 50th! The gain will fall off, probably water weight.
Maintained this week, still 205.6lbs. Blaming the weather for not exercising much, and I also have tooth ache, so haven't been eating the usual foods over the weekend.
Well done for all the losses last week, really great results all!
Oh no Cooper, it's off to the dentist's for you! Toothache is horrible!
A maintain is always better than a gain, so well done you!
I know what you mean by the weather, it's starting to get me down now. I think it's as bad as the winter was, if not worse! Fingers crossed for some spring sunshine soon
Good morning all. Lowcal, I'm glad you had a good holiday, I'm sure the holiday gain will go as fast as it came
I've lost 2 lbs this week and am down to 17st 5lbs now. I was starting to think it wouldn't happen - I've really upped my exercise recently and I think my body went into shock for a while! I've been doing 30 day shred which I find challenging but afterwards I feel a real sense of achievement. 12 days in, my 3 big heavy dogs have accepted that I don't in fact need rescuing when I go from jumping jacks to floor work and no longer jump on top of me at intervals throughout the workout
Ditto 😀 my choc lab thinks I need kisses, cuddles, very cute or goes mad thinking im playing. I have to shut him in another room as he gets too excited !
Good morning Zest , sounds like you had a wonderful holiday with lots of delicious treats, I'm so happy you had such a fabulous birthday celebration!! I'm sure that little gain will melt away now you're back and focused again!
Well, I don't know what on earth happened in my world this last week, perhaps the planets all aligned but, I've gone from 211lbs to 207.5lbs which is a loss of 4.5lbs!!!
I've made it into the 14's which was my goal this week, so I'm absolutely bursting with excitement! Yippeeeeeee 😄
I really hope everyone else has had a wonderful week too!!
WOOHOO Bluewings! What a fantastic result! WTG you! You should be bursting with excitement, it's a brilliant achievement! Into the 14's, but I have to say, looking at your pictures, you look much lighter than that!
You and the girls keep up the great work and in next to no time, you'll be reporting that you're into the 13's!
The 13's sound amazing! It's been a couple of years since I was anywhere near that, but I can see with some dogged determination, it's an achievable goal.
Thanks so much for being so supportive and encouraging!
Happy birthday lowcal! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your celebration. Well, I'm now 10 st 12lb which means I've lost nothing this week but I'm gutted because half way through the week I was at 10st 10.5lb so I've lost a pound and a half and then put it back on even though I've been super strict with my diet. I think it's because I've been reading a lot so I've probably been more sedentary than normal. My weight loss goals are to get below 10st (9 and a half would be nice). My short term goal is to be comfortable in a bikini on holiday at the end of May.
I sympathise with you M_V_B, because on wednesday I was 1.5lbs lighter than today too! I've learned not to take much notice of my weights through the week, and monday's is the only one that counts
A maintain is always better than a gain though, so well done you!
Keep thinking of that bikini and I'm sure your persistence will pay off
Hi, week two and I am 10st 10 1/4lb, which is the same as last week so Ive maintained 😕 Bit gutted, as I have worked hard but oh well. I'll review my cals, and keep going, and I aim to drink more water and up the exercise this week, and hope for a loss next week! My mini aim was 7lb by half term (4 weeks left, 4lb away!) So fingers crossed! Well done to everyone who has lost weight this week! X
It can feel a bit gutting when you've worked hard and don't see the results you're hoping for on the scales, but definitely keep going, and hopefully your diligence and patience will be rewarded - hopefully at next week's weigh-in!!! You're still doing fine for your mini aim to achieve a further 4 pounds in the next 4 weeks - 1 pound a week is a great rate - fingers crossed you'll do that no problem.
A maintain is always better than a gain, so Congratulations on maintaining this week, and here's to a shift on the scales for you in the right direction next week.
Hi Jacko123. So annoying when those scales don't reflect all our hard work! Well done for maintaining though and I am sure you will see a loss next week. I also want to lose 7lb by half term so think I will up my exercise too. We can do this! 😀
Lowcal glad you had a great birthday and an enjoyable holiday.
This week i have maintained i was hoping for a loss but im blaming mother nature coming a calling for preventing my loss. Really its a poor excuse. I am glad ive maintained and hoping for a better week next week.
I am sure you will have better results next week, just keep at it and the scales will reward you!
Hi Lowcal so glad you enjoyed your celebrations. I am sure the weight gain will come off quite quickly. I usually find holiday blips come off easily once eating is back to normal.
I have lost 0.88lb this week which I am pleased about. I am beginning to feel a little better but still have low energy levels so haven't been walking.
Ah Lowcal, I wasn't going to post until I read your post. Happy belated birthday and welcome to the 50s! I have also gained and I'm ashamed... I haven't posted in the Monday weigh in for a month and over that time I've gained 6lb- now weigh 12-8- wouldn't it be brilliant if it had gone the other way! I'm so annoyed with myself!
But this morning I reflected that I'm still two stone less than I was in Jan 2015 and I can definitely do it. So I'm aiming to get back to a healthier approach, better portion control, less alcohol!, and I'm already managing to squeeze in some running.
I'm so glad you posted, and thank you so much for your kind Birthday greetings. I'm glad that you've had some time to reflect and that you've acknowledged your excellent achievements in being 2 stone less than you were in January 2015 - you have successfully maintained that weight loss and that is a massive achievement - Congratulations! I agree with you that you can definitely do this.
It's great to hear you've managed to squeeze in some running too - infact you mentioning that makes me think I should try to do some jogging outside, as I've been tending to run on the treadmill at the gym so far, but it would be good to jog outside in the fresh air, so thanks for that nudge - I will try to do an outside run/jog this week if I can.
It's great to hear you're focusing on getting back to a healthier approach, better portion control, less alcohol, and your running - those sound like an excellent cocktail for success!
I know you've gained some weight, and you've not said how much - that is up to you Rainshine, you can private message me with the amount, or put it publicly, or not mention it at all - whatever is most motivating to you. The fact is you're here, and you're focusing forward, and I'd like to wish you a really great week ahead.
Hi Lowcal, I edited it in- thanks for your lovely reply! And your very kind wishes! Yes, running outside is fantastic right now, the air is cold which helps, but there is so much to see- blossom for example- good to experience the crazy weather too, it hailed on me a couple of runs ago and it made me smile because everyone was looking at me as if I was mad. I so need to get this regained weight back off- here's to us both shifting some of it this week x
Thanks for editing it in. I'm glad that you posted, as I know it can feel challenging to post a gain - I felt that way about posting mine, but I know it's best to face these things and move forward. That's my view on it anyway...!
Yes, here's to us both shifting our extra weight this week - we can do it! Good luck! Enjoy the cherry blossom runs - and the crisp cold air.
Lowcal xx
p.s. I've calculated that you've gained an average of 1.5 pound per week over the month, so that is the amount I'm counting for this week's stats - 1.5 pound gain. Hope that's ok with you.
Hi Lowcal, I'm so glad you were brave enough to post your gain. It gave me the 'door' to post my gain, lay it on the table and move on.. Yesterday I came across this mantra which is mine for today - 'breathe in the future, breathe out the past' 😌
Rainshine come what may if you post your weight you own it🏋🏻, this group is equally valuable to keep you or get you back on track -
use it! your post remember, will help someone else - in the old days I wouldn't even have bothered weighing, before I knew it would have gained a stone then thought sod it and just carried on piling the pounds on..........
Hi Prin, you're so right- it was Lowcal's post about her gain which helped me face mine and try to put it in the past rather than letting it consume my present! Go you Prin, you're so inspirational 😀
Good morning, my starting weight was 17st 5lbs, this morning I weigh 17st 0lbs. A loss of 5lbs since last Wednesday. My aims for next week are to get into the 16's, to keep exercising and to be mindful over what I eat.
Wow, what a great result for your first weigh-in - Congratulations on your 2 pound loss, that is really great! I hope you enjoyed your first week, and those 3 days in France (how lovely!). I agree that the croissants are delicious in France. Really yummy!
Morning all! Glad to hear you had a lovely birthday Lowcal and welcome back! Slightly disappointed with the scales this morning, I had a feeling I hadn't done great but the scales this morning confirmed this last week I was 90.05 kg and 43.5 inches and today I was 89.2kg and 43 inches. I myself know where I went wrong, 2 nights out and a pizza with dad during the week.
Morning! Thanks for your lovely Welcome back - I appreciate it!
Firstly, Congratulations on losing 0.85kg, and also to losing 0.5 inch on your measurements. It sounds like a successful week, especially as you had 2 nights out and a pizza with your Dad during the week - so don't be too disappointed if you can, as you're doing fine!
Good morning, and thanks for the kind welcome back. Much appreciated!
Congratulations to you for maintaining your weight this week - much better than a gain. I hope you feel ok about it, and I hope you have a great week ahead.
I just want to set myself the goal of losing weight next week (be it a pound, half pound). I haven't been able to get through a single week on track in so long that for me, it would be a huge achievement to even see a loss at the scales.
I'm dreading today. I have my meals planned but after months of eating whatever I wanted and whenever I feel today is going to be a big shock to the system. Also, not helped that I'm working at home (Home, like I assume for many others, is a particular weak spot for me) and I am very, very prone to boredom eating... :S
I'm delighted that you've joined us and shared your starting stats with us
Don't give those numbers another thought, because today is the last time you'll be seeing them, from here on in, the battle cry is onwards and downwards
Don't be nervous about today, or any other day, be excited that you're now in charge of you destiny and enjoy the power that it gives you
I'm at home all the time, so can definitely relate to the boredom eating syndrome, but now I use exercise as my weapon. If you get an attack of the munchies, go for a walk, use an exercise bike, do some squats/lunges/sit-ups/press-ups/runup and down the stairs etc
You can do this! Just a tip that I use when I need to stop boredom eating is to chew sugar free gum. It gives you the feeling you are eating something and when your mouth feels all minty you don't feel like eating anything else. A friend of mine keeps brushing her teeth as she dislikes eating once she has that toothpaste taste in her mouth. Once you get over the first couple of weeks it does get easier. Good you have your meals planned. Hope you enjoyed your porridge🙂
Woohoo Jane! What a fantastic 2 weeks you've had! We may have supported you, but you've done all the hard work, so give yourself a big pat on the back, YOU DESERVE IT!
Good morning everyone, hope you are having a fabulous morning. After my weight gain on week 4 it was hard to get back on track, and I skipped last Monday's weigh-in because of embarrassment. I repeated week 5, and find no permanent damage done, lost the weight gained and some more, which I'm happy about. At the start of horrible week 4, I weighed 215.2 lbs or 97.6 kg, and end of the week 4 showed 98.4 kg. This morning I weigh 214.0 lbs or 97.1 kg, so 1.2 lbs loss compared to last lowest weight. Last week went very well, did lots of cardio, some of that with my friend's dog, and averaged 1447 cal/day. It's wonderful to be back ! Katty
Good morning! I'm sorry to hear you skipped last Monday's weigh-in due to embarrassment. Good that you repeated Week 5 and that no permanent damage has been done.
Congratulations on losing 1.2 pounds this week, and it's great that you've enjoyed doing lots of cardio, and averaged your calorie allowance.
Really glad you're back with us, and please don't let that 'embarrassment' stop you from weighing in next time. Whatever happens on the scales, it can really help to come along and weigh - really glad you're back!
Hi tidirhin, please don't ever feel too embarrassed to post here, we will never judge you, only support you. You would not be the first person to gain weight, nor the last. We want you always to feel comfortable enough to confess to any "crime"
Gains are only ever a temporary blip and will always go eventually. What's important is the overall downward trend
Well done you for getting back on track and losing the gain, plus more
I think you meant to write 2.05.16 - so if you want to edit it, just click on the button to the right-hand-side of the 'Like' button and you can easily change it if you want to - but you don't need to, as I know what you mean. Well done for maintaining your weight, and managing to lose that cheeky extra pound you gained on Friday. That's an excellent result. You're doing really well, and making good progress.
Hope you're enjoying things so far, and hoping you have another great week ahead.
Welcome to the Monday group weigh-in, and thank you for sharing your starting weight with us - I know that is a daunting step, so well done for being brave to do that. I think you can be sure of the weight as you've checked it 4 times. Hopefully you'll be celebrating a loss on the scales this time next week, all being well. Are you going to follow the NHS 12 week plan? I would recommend it as a good structure - and it's good to have an app alongside to help you to keep track of your food and drink intake and exercise etc. Have a look at the latest poll results to see the range of apps and things that people use alongside the 12 week plan - they do vary.
I hope you're feeling positive about the week ahead, and I would like to wish you lots of success with your goals.
Thank you, yes I am going to follow the 12 week plan, sat and read through week 1 last night ready to start today. Feeling very motivated and feel grateful for this group to help me through this time. 😄
Brilliant SuseWild, you sound prepared and focused. Being motivated is half the battle! Group support on top of that should help you stay focused. Enjoy your first week!
Hi SuseWild. I am sure that is the last time you will see that number on the scales. Stick with it and you should see results in no time. Best of luck 😊
Quick post this morning. I've stayed the same. So I'm 11st 9lbs. Not disappointed but keen to get the weight down next week. Still been getting over cold, so exercise has been down and was travelling over the weekend and even though I tried to prepare I had one day not eating enough and one probably eating too much. Going to plan better for this week. Good luck everyone 😊
Congratulations on maintaining your weight this week, as it is much better than gaining. I'm glad you're not feeling disappointed, but I know you're keen to get the weight down next week, so best of luck with your goal.
Please do pace yourself though, as you're still getting over your cold, and that's tough to contend with that on top of everything else. You mentioned you've been travelling over the weekend, and that is challenging too.
It's good that you mention planning as that is key to a successful week - definitely helps a lot in my experience, and I need to put my own plan of action together to ensure I get back on track myself after my holiday excesses.
Wishing you a great week ahead. Hope you feel better really soon.
Wow, this is great that you are back in the 12's!!!! Wooo hooo!!!! It's good that you've had a much better week this week, and many Congratulations on your 2 pound loss and to achieving the 12's.
Yes, it is a really great community. Very supportive and such lovely people. I'm glad you've joined us, and many Congratulations on losing 2 pounds, that is really great. I hope you're enjoying it so far, and that you have another great week ahead.
Welcome back lowcal, I find after a birthday binge the excess lbs quickly drop off when back on track. You can do it
Last week I set myself a target to lose 2.4lb to reach 11st 2lb and that's what the scales say today. Not sure I believe it though as I had a bad start to the week and just yesterday I was 11st 3.4lb? I did have a haircut, maybe that's it But I'll take it as is and say that my goal this week is to enter the tens or at least get close! As that will mean 2.5st lost and my goal weight will be somewhere in the tens!
Thanks for your encouraging words, which I appreciate!
Wow, you've achieved your target for this week, and Congratulations on losing 2.4 pounds, that is really great!!! I am sure it is more than your haircut - unless you had very heavy dreadlocks or something like that, but I can see your photo, so if it is current, then your hair is short to begin with.
Good luck with your goal to get close or into the 10's for next Monday. That would be really exciting!
Hello all, so pleased you enjoyed your break. Your scale obviously reflected your good time, and well deserved I'm sure ... but reading posts of past, I know you'll get back on track
My weight loss this week is low - just 1lb. It's been a funny kind of week, but I'm pleased it's a loss.
I am very pleased to hear you've had a loss on the scales this week, and I think 1 pound is a good loss, so Congratulations!!! Honestly, I don't think 1 pound is a low amount at all - just picture it as a pound of butter/lard on a plate, and you can see the significance of it.
It's lovely that the smilies are back again - I was hoping to wear my sunglasses today - but sadly it is foggy just now... I forgot to pack my sunglasses for my holiday (silly me), but hopefully we'll have some sunshine over the Summer closer to home! Here's hoping...!
Good morning! I am chuffed to bits as not only have I lost 2.75 pounds this week, but I am now at 10st 6.5lbs meaning I have lost more than 2st since starting my weight loss mission! ☺️
Hi - am away and can't trust the scales! Are they heavy or light?! Or just right! Will have to weigh in tmw if acceptable or skip a week. Well done all!
morning, hope you all enjoy your Bank Holiday Monday, I'm just going to work but on the bright side I have lost 1lb today, only 2lb to go to my first stone lost!
This is Bingbong10429..hope you all have a lovely Bank Holiday Monday, I'm just going to work...but on the bright side I have lost 1 lb this week, only 2 lb to go to my first stone lost!
You've made me laugh, as you've posted twice, and so it felt like deja vu - especially as your name is Bingbong - I can't help thinking of a famous cosmetics chain...! The power of advertising...
Anyway, Congratulations again on your weight loss, and I hope you have a really good day - despite being at work.
Soon we'll be celebrating with you on your first stone lost. Not long now!!!
Well done for maintaining your weight in your maintenance zone, you are doing so well. You are already close to the lower end of your maintenance zone, and you've got plenty of time before your break away.
I am hopeful I'll lose my gain quite quickly - thanks for your encouraging words. I really appreciate them.
Wow, what a super inspirational, motivanal post from Candystripe. Just what I need today as this past week I lost focus after I promised to be good. I have been stuck at the same weight for 3 weeks but today I've put on .5kg 😥. Really annoyed with myself but only me to blame.
So today it's back to basics starting with the healthy breakfast. I have chicken and three veg lined up for tea and homemade soup for lunch so that's day 1 taken care of. The Bu has been promised and evening walk to keep me away from the chocolate.
I am looking to get on the scales next week and show I have lost that dreaded 1/2 kg plus a little more for my efforts. I have no doubt there will be offers of support from friend on here and I welcome that.
Onwards and DOWNWARDS 👍
Happy Bank Holiday Monday peeps. Sadly, when the rain goes off I'm out to work. On the plus side work means steps 😉 Xx
Oh bad luck Bu-dog, but you'll easily get shot of that 1/2kg. Keep the Bu on a lead and go rabbit hunting together - it's guaranteed to run the weight off you! I walked my dog at 4.30am, which is just as well, because it's pouring with rain now!
Have a great day today, even though you've got to work and hopefully it'll be the start of a great week, which sees a loss on the scales
Welcome back Lowcal, and welcome to the 50's club too. So glad you enjoyed your birthday celebrations, hopefully it won't take too long to shift those pounds you put on, but life is too short to not let yourself free on special occasions .
Pleased to say I got back into losing again last week and shifted the 1.5 llbs that I had put on, 1.5llb loss last week. Now back at 10st 12 and hope to lose another 1llb+ next week but it is definitely getting harder after 15 loss and 20 to go. More exercise and less calories required.
Thank you! Yes, I decided I would really enjoy my holiday, and I defintely did!
Really glad to hear you've shifted that 1.5 pounds you'd put on previously, and Congratulations on that great result this week. Really good! You're well into the 10's now, and you're almost at the half-way point in your overall weight-loss journey.
Good luck with your goal to do more exercise too - hope you find some things you really enjoy doing.
Well done suzymac, especially, as you say, it does get more difficult!
Keep up the good work, but don't go nuts with reducing the calories, there's only so far that they can be dropped. Better to take a smaller loss than starvation!
Delighted to hear you had a fab time away...That's what I call doing it in style!!you will soon be on track and seeing those numbers go down!
I'm happy to report a loss of 4 1/4lb. Was hard work but I think I am getting used to things . Before I just picked and snacked all day long, better organised now!
Thank you! I appreciate your very kind and encouraging words.
Wow, you have done fantastically - losing 4.25 pounds, that is amazing!!! Glad to hear you're getting used to things too. Getting better organised is definitely a large part of obtaining success. Really well done.
Good to have you back and I'm so glad you had a good birthday and holiday, so what about a stupid weight gain, you can't just eat lettuce in Spain! I'm off to Cyprus on Saturday for 2 weeks so also expect a gain But we'll lose it again and more
The other fab fivers looked after us well last week and to moreless, LotToLose and prin who I told I'd lost 2.5lbs on Thursday.... 3-2-1 you're back in the room!!! My total weight loss for last week has settled to my more usual 0.75lb! I don't know why my weight fluctuates so much, on Thursday I had lost 2.5lb and was down to 9 stones 5lb and, despite sticking strictly to my diet on Friday morning I was 9 stone 7lbs! It must be the way I stand on the scales and 2.5lbs did seem nice but unrealistic.
Anyway, I'm not too unhappy with my 0.75lb loss and will stick with it this week; my next weigh-in will be 23rd May so brace yourselves
Bad luck Caroline, a similar thing happened to me. I was 1.5lbs lighter on wednesday than I am today. I think our bodies and the scales like to tease us O.75lbs is still a good loss though and certainly better than a maintain, or a gain
I hope you have a truly fabulous time in Cyprus (don't worry about any gains) and I look forward to hearing all about it on the 23rd
I've seen your pledge thread though, so it looks as if you're determined to get back on the wagon and get back on track!
Maybe the thing to do, is only have clothes that are a bit tight available for you to wear, because it does seem that as soon as you feel good, you get complacent and things start to slip
I was just looking at your Pledge post and so I'd like to wish you lots of success with your Monday Pledges - I will hope to join you in pledging something later, but I need to have a think about what I could do. In the meantime, just incase anyone else happens to be reading this, and fancies joining you in your Monday pledge, here is a link to your post:
Hope you don't mind my linking to that here, but it will help me find it later too...!
I know you've gained 3 pounds this week, but I'm not sure what kind of week you've had - so I am not sure how you're feeling about that. I hope you feel ok and I suspect your pledge today will help you have a really good week ahead.
Good luck with everything, and I will pop by later to pledge something myself.
I can see that I am not the only one who gained 3 lbs. I had 2 weeks were my son was at home and we were going on day trips for 4 days which meant I ate dairy chocolate yummy plus eating big meals with my family. It is pretty obvious I gained weight now we are back into routine and therefore I felt I had to make this pledge to get me back on track and get rid of my Thrush plus get back into my smallest dress.
Actually I am very honoured that you posted my link here!
Thanks for making me feel that I am not the only one who has gained so much weight in one week!
Here I can I am determined to have a better week and get back to 11.4 which I was in the middle of 2 weeks ago. So for this week i would be delighted to loose 3 lbs by walking, eating healthy and drinking 2 litres of water a day.
I am really impressed by your Monday pledge post, and it's great that we can post it here - I hope lots of people will join in and get involved in it, as it's very motivating. Thanks for posting it!
I think you'll soon get back to 11.4 - good luck! Have a fabulous week!
I have learnt a big lesson never cheat! The truth is I am back on track and at least I am not itchy. It was very tough to be eating big meals plus going out with my son so it is no wonder I gained weight but I am hoping if I loose 2 lbs every week than in 5 weeks my dress should fit very nicely.
Here I come!
Loving all the positivity this morning and it makes me feek better about saying I've had a gain this week. It was definitely expected, some of you may know my willpower went awol and although I grabbed it back the damage was done. BUT Candystripe 's blouse story is similar to this dress I've seen that I'd like and it even shares my name so it's meant to be. I'm getting it and WILL slim down to fit into it!!! So, the 2lb I've gained this week, going to lose that and more this week. Bye bye 2lb you thought you's scupper me for good but Fab_Jem's got her willpower back and is kicking butt lol!
I'm so glad you're feeing inspired to slim down to fit that lovely dress you've seen that has your name - it's meant to be!!! You already sound determined to lose that 2 pound you gained this week, and more - so I will join you in waving Bye Bye to that 2 pound - you'll soon see the back of it!!!
That Will Power of yours sounds like she went for some power training, and is back stronger and more energized than before! Fantastic!!!
Yes, Candystripe 's story today is really inspirational, and just what we all need.
I really like sueper 's Challenge too - as it is relevant to fitting into something - and here's a link to that for anyone who might be reading this and wants to have a look at that Challenge:
Thanks moreless & Zest ! My willpower has been reminded of just what it can do when it wants to...17 years ago it quit smoking and learned to love the gym and just because a few years have passed I know it can still pack a power punch when it wants to. So onwards and downwards this week...! 😀
Not really been a very good week and some of you have very kindly given me the encouragement to pick myself up, dust myself off, and regroup. I'm amazed to find that I'm still at 12 stone 10 lbs, so no change. But no gain either! Something of a relief, I was worried that it would be up after falling off the wagon this week and only managing to get to the pool twice due to the train conductors striking (had to work from home 2 days).
My goals for this week are to get 3 swims in and to avoid the take outs to hopefully have a loss next week.
Hi.I'm back yet again.Started calorie counting last Monday and I'm thrilled to say I've lost 4 Pounds.I want to lose at least a stone.I'm only 5.1 tall, and I've pilled weight on around my tummy.I'm also 63 years old and a full time carer.I have to keep fit to keep going.😱
First of all a vote of thanks to the Fab5'ers. I love this monday weigh in, I get to read some really inspirational posts to keep me motivated, and even the ocasional reported gain just shows you don't have to be superhuman to get there in the end. I lost 2.2lb this week, bringing me to my first stone lost goal. My clothes are definitely feeling looser, but what I had not anticipated was that my glasses would keep falling down to leave me peering down my nose like an oldfashioned schoolmarm! My new goal is to loose another 1/2 stone before my son's wedding in 5 weeks time, that is 1.5lb a week so do-able if I set my mind to it.
Glad you're loving the Monday weigh-in. I love it too!!!
Congratulations on losing 2.2 pounds this week, that is a really great result! You've achieved your first stone lost goal - really really great!!!! Good that you've noticed how much looser your clothes feel, and interesting to hear that your glasses keep falling down! Maybe your opticians could give them a bit of a re-fit? They might tighten up a few screws for free, if you're lucky!
Exciting that your son's Wedding is getting closer. But you still have 5 weeks to lose another half stone, that sounds doable! Good luck!!!
Thanks so much for your kind words, they're much appreciated. We too love the weigh-in and also find it inspiring, motivating and supportive. We wouldn't be where we are without it
I don't think I've heard of anyone else losing weight from their nose before, but why not?!
I'm sure you're goal of 1/2 a stone before your son's wedding is doable and I wish you every success with that
Brilliant to hear you've lost another pound this week, that's really great. Congratulations!!! You're getting ever closer to those 11's. Making great progress and in the right direction.
Morning everyone 😉 hope you've all had a successful and fun week.
Just a pound off for me this week although I'm not totally surprised as we had a takeaway on Sat 😋 still happy with the loss though. So that's 6lb in 3weeks which I am chuffed with and only 4lb to go to reach my first goal of 5% loss.
Started wk2 of c25k this morning, was tough but I got through it so off to hit shops shortly to treat myself to something non food 😊 good luck y'all x
Congratulations to you for losing 1 pound this week. That is great! Especially as you had a takeaway on Saturday - glad you're happy with your loss. You've lost 6 pounds in 3 weeks, and that is such great progress. You're very close now to your goal to achieve 5% loss.
Well done for starting wk2 of c25k this morning. Hope you find something nice in the shops as your non food treat.
Double "well dones" from me this week, for the pound off - and for your C25K success so far (it does get easier)!
Morning all. It's a maintain again, so still 10st 12lb, but I'm happy with that as had TOTM and needed some comfort. I'm not really making much progress only 2lb down since 17 March, but I will do this and I actually measured myself this week and I'll start doing that weekly too 😊
Welcome back Lowcal, you've been missed. Glad you had a lovely holiday and birthday.
Thank you to the other fab ladies who stepped in, in your absence 😉
Thank you so much for your lovely welcome back. I agree the Fab 5'ers are lovely - they are such a supportive team, and I am ever grateful to them each and every week, as well as to all you lovely participants in this Monday weigh-in group who join us - it's a really great community.
Having your TOTM is tough - so well done for getting through it, and to maintaining your weight at such a time. It's often a time of weight gain, so many Congratulations on maintaining. Great that you're going to be measuring yourself weekly. It will be interesting to see if the measurements change - and how that relates to the scales. I only do my measurements monthly as they don't change that much, but it can be very motivating when they do drop an inch or part of an inch (or cm if you prefer metric).
Don't underestimate the fact you've kept off the 2 pounds since 17th March. That is still an achievement, and you can build on that, so keep going, and you'll get there.
To maintain when Mother Nature comes calling is no mean feat isou, so well done you!
It's a great idea to do your measurements, because sometimes they're far more encouraging than the scales. Have you noticed a change in how your clothes are fitting?
Thanks so much for your kind words, we really do appreciate them
Wishing you a great week and a loss of pounds and inches
Welcome back Lowcal! Glad to hear u had a fab hols and enjoyed your celebrations! So jealous, really need a hols myself! And it wouldn't be a good hols without a bit of a gain...but u know how to get back on it..it'll be gone in no time once you get back into the routine.
So I managed to hit my 'healthy' weight last week ( which was 8st 12lbs) & weighed 8st 11lbs. Chuffed to bits but knowing that this is dangerously close to the edge of 'unhealthy' I am now planning to lose another 4lbs as my next goal (5now!). However it's been a funny old week this week...very up and down. Had news back from both interviews I had and 'it's a no from me' but good feedback all the same! Didn't get offered either as the first it was between me & someone else who had experience within the particular industry they were in and the other I was down to the last three and the other two worked at the place as volunteers (it was a charity). They both said that I was a very strong contender tho and would keep me on their records. It's the experience thing as I've worked at my last place for 16 years b4 redundancy within a particular field.. .but I seem to have got over the nerve thing in interviews now so that's a positive. So I am back to trolling thru the jobsites again this week. I was fed up but feeling I'm ready to get back on it again tomorrow.
Had a good week calories wise up until Sat night when we had a work reunion in town & whilst I think I managed to stick to my calorie allowance I made the fatal mistake of not drinking enough water in the day so felt really dehydrated & yuk yesterday. .totally my own fault as I'm not much of a drinker these days. Topped with a couple of late nights I felt really groggy. I was good all day up until mid pm when I could stand no more and succombed to buying chunky cadburys choc. Eve time we went to friends for a takeaway & whilst I ordered well they ordered to share & deep down I knew I would go right off the rails! 😂 & I did! So today I weigh 8st 12.6lbs compared to 8st 11lbs last. So I guess I have got away with it fairly well but today is another day of treats out with friends..I'm not going to stress about it cuz I know why and I am going to enjoy today & going to get right back on it tomorrow...I'm all stocked up & ready to get back onto the cals & job mission! This in itself is a victory as in the past on WW or SW I would've thought that's it, blown it, eat everthing in site for the next week & feel really bad about myself. This is my first gain since starting so it's not too bad compared to past attempts. So it's all good in the hood!
Woah that was a long post but felt like expressing myself today! Have a lovely day today everyone. ..and a good week ahead xxx Stay happy my friends 😆😆😆😆
I think it's great that you've expressed yourself in detail today, as it was really good to read through your post, and there were quite a few postiives in it. I'm really glad to hear you've got over your nerves on the interview front, that is really good to hear - and also that you had some very positive feedback from the interviewers - being described as a 'strong contender' is especially good! I know that you are still looking for a job, but hopefully the right one will come up and you'll have the positive result you're seeking very soon. You are going to be on the case again tomorrow, and you sound positive and determined. Good luck!
Your 1.6 pound gain is minimal in the context of having had the Work Reunion and also the sharing of food with your friends over the weekend. I know today is going to be a similarly challenging day, but you have a different perspective than previously, so I think you'll be back on track tomorrow, and should minimise any damage as a result of that.
Good point about remembering to keep hydration in mind. I need to drink more water myself, as I don't always drink sufficient.
I was really pleased to see you'd achieved a healthy weight last week, and believe me it was hard to just press 'Like' for everyone's results, as I was itching to 'say something' too - but I was aware that I had limited time yesterday, and so I just calculated the stats for today, and mentally cheered everyone on. But I was thrilled to see you'd achieved a healthy weight, and many many Congratulations!!!
Even today, if you can make just a few tweaks when you're with your friends, you can minimise any potential weight gain. But essentially, have a lovely day, and re-focus tomorrow, and I'd like to wish you a great week ahead, and also much success with your job search too.
Ah Thank you Lowcal, that's kind of you. I'm still feeling so lazy today again...I should know by now I can't keep up with the kids out on the Razz these days!!!😂😂😂 Thank Goodness we don't do it often. I suggested a nice civilised meal out somewhere next time as it seems to take me all weekend to recover nowadays (how did that happen!?). Enjoy your week xxx
I'm sorry to hear you had a 1.6lb gain DS, but it's never so bad if you can see where things slipped a bit
It's great that you can be so pragmatic about your gain, because, as you say, it stops you from looking on it as a complete failure and throwing in the towel. Life happens and we have to find coping mechanisms to deal with it and clever you has!
Sorry to hear that there's no new job yet, but glad to hear that you've lost your interview nerves. I'm sure it's only a matter of time now before the perfect position comes along
I love long, expressive posts, so keep them coming
Have a lovely day of treats with your friends, then reign it all in for the rest of the week, for a lovely result on the scales next monday
Thank you moreless...that's the plan. Thank you for the support. Sometimes I think just expressing yourself on here is just good therapy & after all people have the option to scroll on by if they wish! And well done on your loss this week..good to hear 👏👏👏. Have a great Week xxx
A belated happy birthday Lowcal. I've weighed in today at 15st 9lb. I'm aiming for a 3 lb loss this week and will also record every morsel that I eat !
Do you remember what you weighed last week? I don't know if you've gained or lost weight from last week - I will check back later, but you'd save me some time if you can let me know in the meantime. I hope you've had a good week and that you're feeling good today.
Great that you're going to record every morsel you eat. I didn't record mine whilst on holiday, and normally I write it all down in my paper diary, so I'm really glad I'm back to that this week. I find it definitely helps a lot to keep on track.
Good luck with your goal to lose 3 pounds this week.
Good luck for the week ahead! I too have to log everything, otherwise, I conveniently "forget" a couple of hundred cals here and a couple of hundred cals there and then wonder why the scales are sluggish, lol!
Good morning everyone! Oh dear.... Wrong time of the month for me and I have put on a pound (10 stone 1). I lost half an inch off my waist though so pleased with that. I hope to feel a lot lighter next week! I shall re-double my efforts! Onwards... X
It is tough when it's your time of the month. I know you've gained 1 pound, but it's great to hear you've lost half an inch off your waist - really great!!! Glad you're feeling pleased about that, it is great to see changes in your body measurements!
I am sure you'll be feeling lighter next week, once your time of the month is out of the way, and here's to Onwards and Downwards!
Thank you LotToLose and Lowcal for your lovely comments. It makes me more determined. I even turned down the offer of a chocolate bar today... What goes up, must come down! Have a good week both!!
Glad you had a good holiday and celebrated in style, I'm sure the weight will come off quickly, but you're only 50 once, so sometimes you just have to enjoy the moment.
After a few fairly static weeks, I'm delighted today. This time last week I was 9 stone, 9lbs and this week I'm 9 stone, 6lbs 8oz. So, I've managed to lose 2lbs 8oz!! So, just under half a stone to lose now to get to my target of 9 stone.
I've just started week 6 of c25k and I think that is making a difference, did my first 20 min run the other day and survived! *phew*
Hi Son1. Well done on fantastic loss this week - just shows you what can happen when you stick with it. Well done for 20 min run too! Sure that is helping to make a difference
What a great loss this week and so close to target too.
I agree about the running, it certainly does make a difference. Well done on doing so well with the C25K programme, hopefully you will be a May graduate (as I hope to be too)!
Today I am 64kg, down I think from 64.4kg on my last weigh in two weeks ago. Yippee. I am delighted to finally get below that 64.4 mark. I am finding it much harder to loose weight as I'm getting closer to my aim (60kg), but I take heart in small gains and try not to worry too much. So as long as its going down, its okay.
my thoughts are with everyone else as we all struggle together to loose weight ... knowing that I'm not alone, and knowing that i have to report on monday morning, really helps me.
Well done for losing 0.4kg over the last 2 weeks - if it's ok with you I'll divide that by 2 for the average weekly loss, which I calculate comes to 0.2kg. Brilliant that you've got below the 64.4 mark. Congratulations!!! You're right, it tends to get more challenging to lose any weight the closer you get to your target. But the fact is that you're still losing, and it's going down - it's okay!
Glad you're enjoying being part of the Monday group weigh-in. It's lovely that you're on board with us, and together we can do this!
hi Lowcal, glad you had great celebrations you have to do it ,when I was 60 I made it last all week , I wore a dress which I felt good in and I weighed 12 st have never got into it again until now 7 years later and now its very loose!. But hey life moves on you will soon be down to where you were because of this site its when you are by yourself that everything lapses. now me I have been trying to get to 10 st which is half stone below target and I am finding that because everyone is saying you look thin enough I can see it will creep back, in a day you can gain a pound if you don't count and be aware of calories, eg We went to pub for coffee while we were away in van, hubby had trad English breakfast 900 cal I had fruit and yogurt pot 385 cal its so easy to eat that and think you are being good!! So I have struggled to lose 3/4 lb this week and now weigh10.2 1/4 lb. I will keep doing this because it is making me accountable on Mondays I wonder what is happening to the people who have stopped posting. this is not easy to keep to wear you want to be but together we can, thanks to you and the team, so good luck this week to everyone x
I see you're wearing that lovely "I Did It!" Badge well, and many Congratulations again on your achievements to date. Glad that you made your 60th Birthday celebrations last all week, that's the way to celebrate!!! Amazing that your dress is so much looser now. All credit to you on your fantastic progress and determination.
Congratulations also to losing 0.75 pounds this week, that is really great! I'm glad you're going to stick with us, and keep posting, as I agree with you that the Monday group weigh-in helps to stay accountable and the support is invaluable for maintaining weight loss too.
I also wonder what happens to the people who stop posting, and I hope that they are out there somewhere keeping up with their successes, and being happy in their lives. If anyone is reading this, and wonders if it might be good to join in the weigh-ins - then please do go for it, and join us! You'd be very welcome!
SkinnyLizzie - I'd like to wish you another great week ahead. I appreciate your encouraging words within your post, and I am keen to get back on track to lose this holiday excess. I realised how quickly the weight can come back, and I loved being in the 12's so much, and I am very keen to get back there.
I knew what you meant - if you ever want to edit something you've written, it's very easy - you can just click on the button to the right-hand-side of the 'Like' button and click on edit and then just edit it.
Morning all and well done to you all I have no changes to report this week as weight and measurements all the same but hey ho - this has always been about more than the pounds for me and I am really pleased that I have been back to my new exercise class this week. My goal this week is to have a 6 week MOT as recommended by the 12 week plan and to add another exercise session to my week. I live close to Westonbirt Arboretum and so am planning to use there as somewhere to get a brisk walk in or maybe start the couch to 5K
Morning! Congratulations on getting back to your new exercise class this week, and to maintaining your weight. Both are really great! A maintain is always better than a gain, and I'm pleased to hear that you're feeling good about your exercise class. Your goal to have the 6 week MOT should be enjoyable, and I hope you find another exercise session that you enjoy to add to your week. Your plan to have a brisk walk at the Arboretum sounds a great idea! I hope you have good weather for that. If you decide to start the couch to 5k, then you'll be in good company as there are lots of enthusiastic people doing that.
I used to love visiting Westonbirt when I lived in Oxfordshire, it is a fabulous place for lovely walks - and yes, even runs!
I started C25K a couple of months ago and progressed slowly at the beginning (I am still heavy, so was being extra careful), but now I am just about to embark on Week 7 and feel fantastic!
So, good luck if you do start it, it is a clever programme and it is amazing to see how well the body adapts. It is also a great way to help with weight loss, I have found.
I have got back on the weight loss wagon after 10 months of maintaining and then suddenly gaining. I then lost 3 lbs in the first week - then put on 2 lbs so I am back at 12 st 6 lbs, 1lb less than I started 3 weeks ago. I just don't seem to be able to get back into the routine. Lots of lovely things going on - family get togethers, trip to London - but no good for getting my weight loss focus back. Now I have a fabulous holiday starting this week - 2 weeks full board on a boat. No idea how much I will weigh when I get back. My only target will be to try and stay at the weight I am today - and renew my efforts at weight loss when I return.
Glad you had a lovely birthday Lowcal - you have done so well getting into the 12s over the last few weeks I am sure the extra pounds will come off quickly enough. Isn't it terrifying how fast the weight can pile on?
Thank you for your inspiring story candystripe - a lovely start to the day - well done!!
Good luck everyone - I will be back in a couple of weeks - I hope not too many pounds heavier!
Ah Sue, getting slim and staying slim are not easy at all! You've done better than I ever have!
I'm sure that once you really get back into the swing of things, you'll lose the regained weight and will manage to maintain.
I realise that having a holiday, so soon after starting, is going to throw a spanner into the weight loss works, but aiming for a maintain is very sensible.
I hope you have a smashing time and if you do gain a couple of pounds, not to worry, you'll get rid of them on your return
Lovely that you have a holiday now and I hope you have a fantastic time. Your goal to maintain your weight is much more sensible than trying to lose any at such a time, but basically just do what you can - and I hope you have a lovely time, and we'll look forward to catching up with you again when you get back.
In terms of your weight change for this week, are you happy for me to put down a 2 pound gain for this week? I can't remember if you weighed last week, or previously, but you know the difference between last Monday and this, and I'm assuming that's 2 pound gain, but if I've got that wrong, then please do correct me.
The great thing is that you've lost an average of 0.33 pound per week, so you're going in the right direction overall.
Thanks for your encouraging words. No I didn't weigh in last week - I just forgot which shows how far out of the loop I have got! Yes weighing in this week is a 2 lb gain I guess - awful.
I will get back to it soon - at least I am no longer frightened of weighing myself which I used to be. I preferred to pretend that everything was fine - and the wrong result on the scales could send me into quite a downward spiral.
The support on this site has stopped that - so thanks everyone!
Great to read about people's holidays - very jealous. Week 2 for me and a loss of 2lb, taking me to 9s 13 1/2 lbs (63.3kg). Into the 9s!
Very happy with this is as had a very big cheat meal on Friday with several (ahem) glasses of wine. But stayed on track the rest of the week and managed the gym a few times so overall very pleased!
Wow, it's great to hear you've lost 2 pounds after your first week, really great! I hope you enjoy week 2, and it's especially motivating to hear you've got into the 9's already! Congratulations!!! I bet you're feeling good!
Hope you enjoyed your meal on Friday. Well done for getting to the gym a few times, and to keeping on track for the rest of the week.
You're doing really well. Wishing you another great week ahead.
Welcome back and again I like seeing you cope with the weight gain the way you do. I too am convinced you will lose those pounds very quickly thanks to sticking back to your routine.
I loved reading Candystripe news too below yours. What an inspiration.
My weight this morning was 68.3kg compared to 68.8kg last week so I lost a little bit more than a pound. Except I didnt record my weight last week I just ran out of time and then felt shy as that 68.8kg weight was a quarter of a pound more than the previous week!! See how I am rushing today to record my weight loss!! Naughty me!!!
But I should have known better. Just reading through a few messages already this morning I can see how stupid of me it was to not write as everyone has good weeks and bad weeks and when I hear Moreless has taken a month to lose a pound and is still cheerful it encourages me too!
I feel better and better I still want to reach 65kg so I'll have to carry on for a while, I hate being borderline like that but I still feel good compared to where I started.
And every single week I bump into people who have not seen me a for a while, it gets tedious after a whiel although to be fair I still enjoy it!!! The "is it you???" lol.
Onwards and downwards everyone!! And thanks again for the support!
Great to see you, and I'm so glad you came and posted today - sorry you didn't feel like it last week, but glad you're thinking that you might face that in future and post regardless of what the results are on the scales - it really is the support of the group that helps, and especially on those weeks when the scales don't do as we hope they might...! Those are especially good times to post - to get the support of everyone - we're all with you!
Congratulations on losing 0.5kg this week, that is great! It's also especially good to hear you're still enjoying the reactions of your friends and others who've not seen you for a while - glad you're not find that tedious yet! Long may it continue!!! I bet they find your changes very inspirational.
Great that you're feeling better and better too - noone can take those feelings away from you.
Wishing you another great week ahead, and so glad you posted today! Thank you also for your encouraging words to us all. Much appreciated!
Hi all, after 3 days I managed to lose 4.5lb. I'm so chuffed. I'm even more pleased that I have managed to stick at it for the 3 days usually I fold and give in. Looking forward to weigh in Monday now. I hope you have all had a good week. Liane X
Wow, you've made such an excellent start - losing 4.5 pounds in just 3 days. Wow!!! I am not surprised that you're feeling chuffed. What a lovely feeling!!
I'm so glad you've managed to stick at it for the 3 days - as I note that you have found that difficult in the past, and so that is even more great! Glad you're looking forward to the next Monday weigh-in. We'll be here, and it will be great to see how you're getting on by then.
Do join in the community things going on in the forum in the meantime, and check out the pinned posts too - there's lots to read and lots going on.
Thank you very much for your reply, I have indeed struggled but praying this time will be different. I will sit down today and look through the feeds. Thanks again.
Hi many happy returns and welcome back. I hope you had a lovely time. Big birthdays need celebrating, you only live once so don't worry about the weight gain. You will lose that in no time and be back in the 12's before you know it. Have a great week ☺
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your lovely welcome back and kind words, and I'll be looking out for your Friday weigh-in posts - I hope you're doing ok.
I'll do my best to get back in the 12's as soon as I can!!!
Happy Bank holiday all! Glad you had a great holiday / birthday Lowcal. Special birthdays have to be a time to celebrate and then you know what to do! I remember enjoying my 40th but then getting back to it, where as in the past it would have been an excuse to go back to old ways.
Well I stayed the same this week, which I am pleased with as time of the month. I have bought some new clothes and a size 14 trouser (although a wide leg). I cannot remember as an adult buying a size 14 for a very very long time! Trouble is I feel they are a bit tight but everyone says not (think my head needs to catch up with body). I was also discussing with my mum how this group is what has made the difference for me. I long time ago I watched a horizon programme on weight loss and as I suspected I was an emotional eater and therefore needed a support group, hence this! (I had looked at the typical groups but could not find a class that fitted in for me). I have stayed the same now for about 4 months up and down by about half a stone, never able to quite lose the last half a stone! But gym is helping with shape!.
Well done Vickster, a maintain is always better than a gain, especially when it's your tom
Ooh, size 14 trousers, wtg you! I suspect you're still not used to wearing fitted clothes. I know I've got used to wearing tents and normal clothes do feel a bit "tight"
This site/community/forum/group has been the salvation of most of us, I should think. I know I could never have come this far on my own. As long as we stick together and continue to encourage each other, there will be far more success stories, than failures. The same is true for that last, stubborn, half stone of yours. We will see the back of that!
Hi! Pleased to hear you are back now!! I haven't weighed in for 2 weeks but back to it today. I still weigh the same as 2 weeks ago which is 11 stone 4. Am happy with that as haven't really been very careful. I get bored if I am constantly watching what I eat and tend to rebel for a while then get back onto it.. I will try and be good this week. Would live to he in the 10's.
Hi Zest welcome back. Weight gain is only temporary after holidays and I'm sure you'll loose it quickly. I am maintaining after losing another 2lbs this week. I won't be wearing a bikini but am very happy to be at last here
I am afraid I missed a couple of weeks as I was very poorly with a UTI. Feeling much better now. I kept up the healthy eating but my exercise regime fell by the wayside. Back in the groove now and weighing in at 131kg, so 7kg lost since I started the 12 week plan at the end of March! Well on target for 10kg loss by my holiday in July. It can be no coincidence that I am getting much less pain from my hips and knees. Even dug out a pair of (2004 vintage)36" waist jeans but couldn't keep them on all day!!!
So sorry to hear that you've had a UTI wolff, but really glad to hear that you're much better now
I wonder if you'd mind stipulating exactly when you last weighed in and exactly how much you've lost since then, please? It makes life much easier for Zest doing the stats
It's great that you've lost 7kgs and that you only have another 3kgs to lose to reach your target before your holiday in July The weight loss must have helped lessen the strain on your hips and knees and resulted in less pain
Well done for fitting into those 34" jeans, even if it wasn't for a whole day
Thanks for this, I calculate that you've lost 1.17kg on average per week in the last 3 weeks - hope you're ok with that amount, but if you think I've calculated it wrongly, please let me know!
I am so sorry to hear you've had a UTI, and I am really glad to hear you're feeling much better now. I think you did very well to keep up with the healthy eating side of things, and I'm glad you rested so you could get better.
Now you're back in the groove, and it's fantastic to hear you've lost 7kg since you started the NHS 12 week plan at the end of March. It's great that you're well on target for your holiday in July. Having less pain in your hips and knees is such a great outcome too. Hopefully those lovely vintage 36" waist jeans will be more comfortable to wear all day long very soon!
Hello and welcome back. I had gained last week following my husband's 50th celebrations and have been reasonably careful this week so now I'm back from 71.1 to 69.4. Although this is great I'm definitely experiencing a lull in motivation. I don't have the necessary absolute conviction in my head that I must not exceed my calorie limit. I just know I'm going to flounder around a this weight instead of continuing to my target of about 61kg.
I wonder if this is partly just diet-fatigue, and partly the fact I've 'come out' at work - publicly talked about my weight loss, prompted by people's lovely comments, and this sort of makes me feel as though I'm done.
I've never managed to maintain before, and that's my other worry - that this inability to press on down is the beginning of the slippery slope back to obesity.
Yes, I remember you mentioning your husband's 50th Birthday celebrations, and I hope you both enjoyed celebrating that occasion. Well done for doing so well this week, and losing 1.7kg - that is brilliant!!! Congratulations!!!
I know you're experiencing a lull in motivation though, so it's good that you're aware of that, and can be hopefully ready with some kind of re-boot plan. It's interesting that you're wondering whether 'coming out' at work regarding your weight-loss has changed your perspective on things - maybe think about what that means to you. It sounds like you've got a few concerns about whether you'll be able to maintain - that's really understandable, as it's another phase, and in some ways equally challenging.
But please try to challenge your thoughts that you're on a slippery path back to obesity - if you re-frame that you'll hopefully set your mind to a better outcome.
Lots of things to think about, but it could be worth taking that time, as you need a good mindset to help you to focus on achieving your goals.
Good luck Knitsandcodes, you're doing well - wishing you a great week ahead.
You are just a kid Lowcal - enjoy the fifties, its the new forties now don't you know?
I am pleased as I have lost another pound, weighing in at 13 stone 9lbs. Total lost so far is 1st 11lbs and have another 1st 2lbs to go to reach my target of 12st 7lbs. Off next week to do some more hill climbing with my partner and dogs, so hope to sts next week as a few pub meals might be the order of the day. Think I might resist the puddings however as don't want to undo all my hard work so far!
I appreciate your very kind words - yes, I accept they're the new forties, I can definitely take that on board and run with that....! Thank you!!!!
Congratulations to you for losing another pound, this is really great!!! Wow, you've lost 1 stone and 11 pounds in total - that is incredible!!! You're more than half-way to your ultimate target now of 12 stone 7 pounds.
Hope you enjoy your hill-climbing with your partner and dogs. Your goal to stay the same is good in view of the pub meals alongside - I hope you have a wonderful time.
Glad you had a great celebration holiday Lowcal, and are enjoying the 50's club, I told you it wasn't that bad! I am sure those extra pounds will disappear quickly.
I have lost 1lb this week. I was 14 stone and am now 13 stone 13. Hooray, haven't been here for about 10 years!
Yes, you told me the 50's Club wasn't so bad, and you're right - so far so good!!! Feeling fine!!!
Brilliant to hear you've lost 1 pound this week, and that you're into the 13's - wooo hooooo!!!! That is really great!!! Congratulations!!! Especially amazing that you've not seen that weight for 10 years - I bet it feels really great!!!
Thank you so much. I think it's the 11,000 steps a day that has been helping me so much. I have even reduced my asthma medication as I get a bit fitter which is great!
Yes fifties are great - mind you I'm out of them and in the sixties and they're pretty good too!! I've maintained this week so remaining at 12 st 10 lbs - so I can cope with that. Glad you had a great holiday Lowcal that weight will soon drop off I'm sure. I'm joining a gym for an oomph to my weight loss - wedding less than 3 months now and would like to have shed a stone altogether by then . Keep the faith peeps!
Great that you're enjoying the 60's and that they're pretty good too!
Congratulations on maintaining your weight this week, that is much better than gaining. It's great to hear you're joining a gym for an oomph to your weight loss - I hope you'll enjoy your gym sessions and that they go really well. Wow, your Wedding is getting closer, but 3 months is still plenty of time to make some good progress. Like you say 'Keep the Faith'.
Wishing you a great week ahead, and thanks for your kind words.
A maintain is always better than a gain Beryl, so well done you!
Oooh, I'm impressed that you've joined a gym, you're waaaay braver than me! I hope you really enjoy yourself and that it has the effect of kick starting your weight loss, as you're expecting
You'll definitely have shed a stone by the wedding!
Hi lowcal I'm glad you had an amazing holiday and no doubt you will be back to where you want in no time at all 👍last week i was 15st 2ozs this week i'm 14st 13lb 4ozs, i must admit to being disappointed at losing less than a pound. On saying that i'm over the moon at getting to the 14s , 1lb 4ozs and i will have achieved a loss of 2st and i can share my easter egg lol, i was hoping to be able to do this on the 9th may when we are going away for a few day's for our 29th anniversary but hey ho good luck everyone 😁😁👍
Woohoo Rosie, into the 14's!!! Don't be disappointed at losing less than a pound, because at least you've lost and that has to be a good thing
Sooooo close to the 2st mark now, which is fantastic and still possible by the 9th
I don't know if you'll be weighing in before you go away for your anniversary, but just in case you're not, happy anniversary and have a splendiferous time!
Weighing in at 9 stone 5.4 lbs today, which is slightly down on last week's 9 st one 6 lbs, so that's good. Walking more now the weather has improved, and feeling better for carrying less of a 'load' on my joints! Onwards, and good luck to everyone in the coming week.
Yes, you've lost 0.6 pound this week, which is really good! Congratulations!!! Glad you're enjoying your walks and that you feel better for being lighter on your joints. That's such a great outcome.
Thank you so much for the lovely Welcome back. I really appreciate it. I did have a lovely time, and don't regret a moment! I am hopeful that the weight will come off quite quickly, all being well.
I hope you enjoyed your 2 Family Celebrations - 2 pounds gain isn't much in the context of that. Also, the weather could be better, couldn't it! Let's hope it improves soon.
Glad you're feeling optimistic, and here's to you losing those 7 pounds by 4th June!
Hi. moreless thanks for that. Feel very different walking around now plus more energy. Have to see how to maintain as never really did that before but reading on this forum is a great help
Good morning Lowcal & other Fab 5'ers. Really good to hear your positive attitude to the holiday gain Lowcal. I can't believe that's all weight put on, part of it must be water retention from flights, celebratory drinks, temperature differences etc. I'm impressed you kept up the exercise while away too. Here's hoping the bulk of those 7lbs reverses very quickly.
I have also put on some lbs this week, from 9st8 to 9st10. But I'm not concerned about this as 1) I think my body's settling down after my bug which was very dehydrating and caused 3lbs loss down to 9st8 in the first place and 2) because I'm still within my 9st8-9st11 maintaining range. Also I know I've been good his week. Lots of running and cycling, even some strength, not to mention lots of diy and clearing out (still) at the new house.
Great to see you! Thanks for your kind and encouraging words, which I always appreciate! Thanks also for putting into context some of the potential contributors to my 7 pound gain - it's good to see them listed like that! Really helpful. Like you say, hopefully the bulk will reverse very quickly. That is my hope!
I am glad that you're now recovered from your bug, that must have been tough to have to contend with that, and you've been through all the stress of moving house etc - that is such a bit thing and I think the stress of moving is often under-rated. It can be exciting, but it definitely takes its toll.
I know you've gained 2 pounds, but you're still well within your maintaining range, and Congratulations for that! Great that you've been able to do lots of running and cycling this week, and especially your strength training too. Lots of DIY and clearing out in your new house will also burn up quite a few calories.
Yes, I often have that result after a tummy bug, often putting it all back on, grrr.
You are doing well at maintaining and it is great that you are enjoying the (slightly) better weather and getting out running and cycling as well as chores!
Hi, I've only lost 0.5lb this week, bit disappointing after my 4lb loss on week 1 but I think it's my body saying 'hang on a minute, what's going on here?!' . I've stayed within my 1400 calories and been walking every day. My mini goal is now to get in the 10's, so 4lb to go. Have a great bank holiday everyone!
I'm afraid the big losses don't last Caz, but be proud of the 4.5lbs lost so far, that averages out at 2.25lbs/week, which is still more than the 1 - 2lb average the NHS advises
Keep up the great work and you'll be in the 10's in no time!
Don't be disappointed, a loss is a loss and it is in the right direction. Some weeks you lose more than others, it is just the way it goes. Hopefully, you will lose more next week
First weigh-in last week with a starting weight of 14st 3lb. Just got on the scales and its 14st today - a 3lb loss - so happy news! My first week of keeping a food diary and getting walking seems to be working although I realise it is early days! Managing food OK so far - surprised to find haven't missed the sugary snacks - but I must keep the habit of recording everything. As someone working long hours at the moment in a sedentary job, I'm looking at ways to build up the exercise - which will be a challenge! Apps like myfitnesspal look promising to keep me on track.
The great thing about sugar is, that the less you eat, the less you want I haven't touched anything sugary for 8 months now!
Try parking further away from work, so that you have to walk. Always use the stairs. Get up from your desk regularly and walk about. If possible, stand at your work station for periods of time. Go for a brisk walk in your lunch break. Do squats and lunges while you're waiting for the kettle to boil. It's amazing what can be squeezed into short periods of time
Hi all, welcome back Lowcal! I'm glad you had a lovely 50th.. I'm sure you'll shift those few extra pounds quicker than you gained them.
This week has been a very good week compared to last week where I only lost one pound and started to feel disheartened, I actually managed to lose 3lbs which means that I lost my first stone in 6 weeks... woohoo! I haven't worn jeans for a year so I thought i'd get out my old pair and see if they fit me... low and behold they were actually loose on me.. I can feel my body shape has changed and already feel lighter on my feet, I no longer get that horrible ache in my feet I used to get after walking a long distance. My energy levels have also increased, I am on target and hope to be in the 10's by the next weigh in. I still have a way to go but it's a start and week by week I am getting closer to getting my figure back and feeling good about myself.
Week 0: 12 stone
Week 1: 11st 10lbs (4lb loss)
Week 2: 11st 8lbs (2lb loss)
Week 3: 11st 6lbs (2lb loss)
Week 4: 11st 4lbs (2lbs loss)
Week 5: 11st 3lbs (1lb loss)
Week 6: 11 stone (3lbs loss this week)
Week 7: Aim to be 10st 12lbs
Short term goal: to get in to the 10's by May
Long term ideal goal: to be around 8st 4lbs by September
Wow, what a great result you've had this week. To lose 3 pounds, that is amazing! Also that you've lost your first stone in 6 weeks - that is fantastic progress, really really well done!!! Congratulations!!! I'm very excited - I think you can tell....
So many positives within your post, and very inspirational. Great to see your progress week by week too - and you are sitting on the cusp of the 10's, so like you say, you're very likely to get there for next week. Although sometimes the scales can be a bit cruel at such times, especially after a larger weight loss, so whatever you do, don't get disheartened if you don't see the results you're hoping for. All being well, it should be fine, but in my experience there can sometimes be a slight gain or a maintain after a bigger loss. Pre-armed is forewarned, but I really really hope you'll see the 10's next week. Fingers crossed!
Thank you so much for your lovely encouraging message, what you've written means a lot to me and keeps me going, thank you for the warning too... it can be disheartening so maybe this is the week to change things up a bit in regards to my diet and exercise. Let's see! Good luck to you for your next weigh in! All the best for the coming week xx
Welcome to your first Monday group weigh-in. Great that you've started your portion controlled eating today, and thanks for sharing your starting weight with us - I know that's a big step to take and a brave one, so that's the worst bit over with now, and hopefully you'll be saying 'Goodbye' to those 90's from here on out. Wishing you lots of luck, and hope you'll enjoy your first week.
Do look at our Pinned posts area, as there are some useful posts there that are worth a read. The recipe collation post is really colourful - some great posts by various members on the forum of their meals and recipes.
Wishing you a great week ahead. It's great that you've also taken your body measurements, as those will hopefully inspire you as you see them change over the coming weeks.
well now you are back in harness LowCal and best fo luck this week! So glad the celebrations were fun.
I am 10 stone 12.2 this week so a loss there of about a pound from 10.13.4. I haven't been counting every calorie except totting them up in my head so I am quite lucky I haven't gained and I am so pleased to have stayed in the 10 stone bracket. I need to take care this week to cement that move downwards....feel so much better about myself and am loving swimming!
It's great to hear you've lost 1.2 pounds this week. You're well into the 10's now! That is really great!!! Congratulations!!! Like you say, you're cementing your move downwards and hopefully you'll stay in those 10's now and get comfortable in them.
Glad you're feeling so much better about yourself, and that you're loving your swimming. Great exercise!
I am a bit late but this morning I had been with 87,9kgs. For two weeks now I am yoyoing between 87,3kgs and 89 kgs, depending on how many pizza I ate after a diet day :-). And I decided not to diet on a Sunday, so Monday mornings will always be a scale aching in the bathroom... and as I am on the dress callenge, I feel more comfortable as the tape measure is never at the same hight on my body as the week before. Sometimes I measure 2-4cms difference which are not reliable... The clothes which were defeating me are coming now in the range back to be looked at and tried on again... and the zip test is just wonderful....
Happy to see you back Lowcal with all your energy to make us all comfy about our Onwards and Downwards
Thanks for your kind words, and I'm glad to be back. You have lost 1.1kg since last Monday's weigh-in, so Congratulations! It's good that you're enjoying the zip test - and glad that you're able to fit in some of your clothes you were hoping to get into. That's really great!!!
Sorry to hear you've had an unexpected result - gaining 1.8 pounds when you've been good with your food is definitely a surprise. Maybe it is a hormonal change, or maybe even something as simple as consuming more salt than normal and having extra water weight - sometimes one meal can be very salty - I find that if I have some pizza or maybe a risotto.
Even if you've exercised more and then get water weight as your muscles repair etc. There can be lots of things that can contribute to weight gain - so like you say, just keep going, and hopefully you'll get a better result on the scales next week.
I will try my best to be good, as I definitely want to shift those 7 pounds again. I can imagine them sitting on a plate, and they are enormous portrayed like that, so I need to get them off asap. I am presuming they are mainly water weight and stuff - but I do know I over-indulged, so I do need to get serious and back on track, which is what I intend to do. I've had a good day so far!
Hope you are having a good week. I think I spotted that you had posted your weight in another post, so I will go and check out how you're doing.
Lowcal
p.s. Having just discussed your weight-loss progress in your other post, I am including your great results for our stats - Congratulations on losing 1.25 pounds this week Diana, that is really great!!!
Hello - starting this 12 week challenge again! This afternoon weigh-in 14st 13lbs and I'm aiming to lose 4 stone in the long term. My first mini goal is a 1st stone I love walking and have a 'fitbit' and try to do a minimum of 10,000 steps a day. I also go for a leisurely swim once a week - just got to start counting the calories!
I remember your name (previous one, as I realise you've just changed it!) from previous times, and it's great that you're re-starting the 12 week challenge. Thanks for sharing your starting weight, and your long-term goal. It's great that you've set yourself a mini goal - and it's also great that you enjoy walking and have a 'fitbit' to help you to try to do a minimum of 10,000 steps per day. Good luck, and I hope you enjoy your walks. A leisurely swim once a week also sounds really good.
If you use an app to help you to count the calories, it is much easier. I use Myfitnesspal, which is free and easy to use.
Hi and welcome back Zest ! It is good to have you back☺ we surely missed you but your colleagues took very good care of us in your absence. I wa ver panicked since last night aftee standing on the scales. However, after seeing your post I feela liytle better as you are not the only one with the weight gain today. Last week I had lost 2.75lbs despite the birthday celebration and I thought I succeeded in trying to eat healthy. This week however, I jumped on the scales last night and realised that I had actually gained 5.19lbs WOAHHH. This gives me three reasons to realise that;
1. Last week'seating showing this week.
2. Me taking my water intake high (I am having a 300ml glass of water every hour).
3. Scales have decided to give up on me. 😡
I would take the first two options as more realistically and see how the things change over the next week. I will continue to drink water as I mentioned above and see what happens next week.
Now my weight.
Last week I was 15st 2.36lbs and this week I am 15st 5.19lbs. Which gives me a total gain of 5.19lbs this week.
Feeling low and disappointed about this but I'm not going to let this keep me down. I will turn it around by next week and plan to lose 3lbs.
Beat of luck to everyone else and sorry for such late submission of the weight.
Firstly I would like to wish you a belated Happy 35th Birthday - and say how much I also appreciated your lovely Birthday greetings to me. I read your reply, along with everyone else's, when I was doing the stats yesterday, and I wanted to reply to you individually at the time, but I knew I didn't have sufficient time to do so, and so I purely 'Liked' everyone's post replies as I read them, and moved on, but I am glad that you enjoyed your Birthday. Well done for losing weight last week, even though you had your Birthday, and of course the weight has caught up a bit this week, as I know you've gained 5.19 pound, but don't let that put you off - you'll soon get that off again in no time. Just keep on track and focused.
I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to give you a link to an article about drinking water:
I really think it's important not to drink 'too much' or 'too little' and therefore, I was a bit concerned to hear you're planning to drink 300ml every hour. You might want to read the article and perhaps aim for 4 to 6 glasses a day - remembering that there is also water in many foods (e.g. melon etc). Also, take into account the activity, humidity of your environment, stuff like that for you individual needs.
Please don't apologise for posting in the mid afternoon, you can literally post at anytime on a Monday and even up to midnight - it wouldn't be too late. Maybe we sometimes go to bed before midnight, but I always check the posts in the mornings anyway - and we also accept 'late weighers' - as I often don't complete the stats till the end of the week.
You are well within time, and you are very welcome!
I hope you had a lovely Birthday Sana, and I hope you have a great week ahead.
Try to keep positive, as you will hopefully have a great week ahead of you. Enjoy it and thanks again for your very kind wishes to me.
Thank you so much for such supportive and positive feed back Zest .
It is so hard to keep up with all the information these days. I did not mind about your suggestion at all. In fact my GP suggested that I drink 2 to 3ltrs of water a day a while ago and I had never been able to achieve that. I started this thinking that I was probably eating more food instead of drinking water.
I will look at this article as well as I'm sure this will help me just like you guys have been helping me since the day I joined the forum.
You are so welcome and those wishes were right from the bottom of my heart because you deserved them!
I just sent you a link to this weigh-in post, and am delighted to see you've just popped in anyway, so Welcome!!! I've also put a link to our Welcome Newbie thread on your other post too, which is worth a read.
I'm glad you've posted your starting weight, and I do appreciate how challenging that can be to do that, a brave first step, but all being well it will be the heaviest you'll be, and you'll enjoy being lighter as time progresses!
Wishing you a great first week.
Lowcal
Hi Lowcal,
Glad you had a fab birthday and those few Ibs will soon disappear!!
5.55pm I'm just off to cook and eat my dinner, but I'll pop back now and again during the evening. Other Fab 5'ers will similarly be around and about too.
Ok so my first time doing this I'm weighing in with a health care adviser every Thursday. My first weigh in was 20st 8oz. Shocked and upset that it had gone that far.
To be honest I'm not expecting a lot of loss as I can't walk very well with the pain in my heel but I'm going to do this. Besides I'm doing Race for life in 2 weeks.
Welcome to the Monday weigh-in Amanda, I was in the same boat as you last August when I was weighed and have since lost 80lbs (5st 10lbs) by following the NHS plan and joining in on here which is very motivational.
I hope as the weight comes off, you begin to be able to move more as that does help. I started with just short walks at first, but am now able to do a lot more.
I know you have been a member for a while, so may have already seen the Welcome thread, but I will link it here just in case you want to see it again: healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...
Anyway, it is good to have you on board - you can do this!
Good luck with the Race for life. Painful heels can really get you down. I had plantar fasciitis for a few months. What I will suggest is to make sure you have really good walking/running shoes. You don't need to spend a fortune I always buy mine when they are in sale. Seek the advice of the sports shop assistant and a them if they walk/run, that way they will be able to advise you better; also I know it seems trivial, but walking socks and innersoles for your trainers. (Aldi have these at the moment) They offer further support and cushioning.
Posting a day late, 10 stone 13 pounds. Gain of half a pound I think. Shame but I had a couple of big meals over weekend and didn't get to gym as was away. Glad I stayed in the 10's ...... Am "home alone" this week so plans for a healthy one with a good Monday! All best
We were expecting you, as you know! Great to see you! Sorry to hear you've gained 0.5 pound - like you say, it was probably those couple of big meals over the weekend and not managing to get to the gym as you were away. I'm also really glad to hear you've stayed in the 10's - that is great!!!
Hope you have a good week 'home alone' and hopefully lots of opportunities to have a healthy and happy week.
Sorry a day out this week. Despite the Moonwalk training stepping up a gear and completing 20 miles in 4hr 45min on Saturday, I still only managed to lose 0.1 of a kilo. weight now at 83Kg. I have bought a beautiful dress to wear to a friends wedding at the beginning of June and although I can zip it up (with assistance) I would like a little bit of room for movement so that is my incentive for the next few weeks. Does anyone have any suggestions for toning up the bits that wobble over the side of your bra? the bits under your arms. If I could lose these I would be one happy bunny.
Great to see you, and well done for completing 20 miles in 4hr 45min on Saturday - that is fantastic!!! Congratulations also on losing 0.1kg. I suspect more will come off next week as your body adjusts to all the walking and training you've been doing - and so keep going, to reap those rewards! Lovely that you've bought a beautiful dress to wear at your friend's Wedding at the beginning of June.
I would suggest you post your query about exercise for your bits under your arms in the main forum as a question, because then you'd get many more replies. Usually the Monday group is quiet once Monday has passed, as most people have been reading through it yesterday, and therefore you may not get many views for your query here. Hope that makes sense.
I would imagine some strength exercises would help to tone up your arms - maybe google those and see if you find any helpful ones. But ask your question in the forum too - if you want to, as I'm sure you'd get some helpful responses.
