Hi everyone,

Firstly, thanks to Prin, Suzybenj, Candystripe and Ruth_Canal_Runner (Fab 5'ers) for taking such good care of the Monday Weigh in group thread last week, and to Prin for posting the thread itself last Monday. Ruth has done a great job with the stats (thank you Ruth!), and I'll start by reporting those stats here (inspiring reading):

Total people posting on last Monday's thread: 50

Total overall weight lost 52.74 pounds (23.92 kilos)

Total people who lost weight: 32 (64.57 pounds lost) (29.29 kilos)

Total people who gained weight: 9 (11.83 pounds gained) (5.37 kilos)

Total people who maintained weight: 4

Total people starting out on their weight loss journey/plan: 3

Total people who didn't disclose their weight gain/loss: 2

Really well done to everyone.

I am back from holiday, and I admit I am looking forward to catching up with people. I last weighed in on Monday 21st September 2015 (2 weeks ago) and I weighed 13 stone 4.6 pounds. Today I weigh 13 stone 5.6 pounds. So I've gained 1 pound in two weeks, which for this week's stats means I gained 0.5 pounds this week. Phew, I know it could have been a lot worse!!!

I realize I was ambitious to want to maintain weight, whilst being on holiday. I definitely enjoyed the French cuisine - drinking red wine with evening meals, and sometimes lunches too, enjoying French bread and pattiseries - and having dessert most days. But the good thing was I did lots of walking, and some swimming too. I even got to the gym twice and ran on the running machine for 30 minutes both times. So I kept active during the holiday, and I'm sure that minimised the amount of weight I could have gained. I am hoping to get back on track this week, now I'm back into a normal routine again.

I enjoyed reading last Monday's thread (which I did last night) - and I'm really looking forward to catching up with people today.

If you're new to this thread, then please join us - basically one or more of the Fab 5'ers (myself, Prin, Suzybenj, Candystripe and Ruth_Canal_Runner) will respond to anyone who posts here, and we'll try to encourage and/or commiserate with you depending on how your week's gone. We would encourage anyone who fancies joining us, to just join in - interact with people, and enjoy being part of our Monday weigh-in group. We're a friendly bunch, and we love this thread! It helps us all keep on track.

I hope you'll join us, and good luck to everyone - here's to a great week ahead for all of us. :-)

Morning LC - welcome back. And a minor gain for a weeks holiday - so back to the campaign:-)

For me I have had one heady weekend away in Newcastle watching Rugby- for my sins I have gained 1 .75 pounds. ( I did not compute what would happen if I was away for a week !) Very annoying - as I did go to the gym over the weekend and I did not eat pie and chips. But I did have an indian meal and vast quantities of party juice.

So anyhoo - back on wagon today - shift that weight - as we are going back to Newcastle next weekend - to watch Scotland v samoa. We have also just found out the hotel we are staying will be hosting the All Blacks - so we are all v excited and looking fwd to another fun weekend.

good luck for next week:-)

Hi Suzybenj (lovely Fab 5'er),

Thanks for the encouraging words. It's good to be back. Sounds like you've had a busy week yourself, and well done for getting to the gym over the weekend, and not eating that pie and chips. Hope you enjoyed the Rugby. That 1.75 pounds will soon be off again now you're back. Like you say, back on the wagon again. Wow, your weekend ahead sounds fun. Wishing you a great time.

Good luck for the week ahead.

Morning everyone!

That's a fab result after your holiday LowCal - I would be very happy only putting on 1/2 lb a week whilst away!

I can't get an accurate reading today as we are housesitting for my boyfriends parents and their scales give a really good reading indeed which would be great but not entirely accurate :)

I'm going to go by a sneaky weigh in a couple of days a go - this would mean that I have put on 0.6lb. I've put on small amounts over the last three weeks but they are adding up. I have lost my motivation a little bit :( I know why...things aren't great at work and I'm using food again to compensate. We were housesitting for my parents last week and that's where I associate treats with as my Mum would spoil me when I got home from uni (albeit a long time a go!) and there was loads of Wotsits (my fav - can't stick to one bag) and chocolate for me to eat away my rubbish day at work. Just felt even worse afterwards...

Anyway it is a new week and I am going to stick to my plan.

Hi NoMoreJunk,

Don't know why, but I didn't spot your post this morning, but just seen it now, so really great to see you! You've only put 0.6 pound on, that's not much in the scheme of things, and you know what the triggers were - house-sitting in your parents' house and all those previous associations of food being a comfort etc - not easy to break those patterns or the potency of those triggers.

Like you say, it's a new week, and you are going to stick to your plan. Good luck, and wishing you a good week ahead.

Lowcal :-)

Good for you having a sneaky weigh in noMore junk. I do that too now & again. 0.6lb is very minimal and Wotsits are very moreish I must admit BUT how many bags????!!! Perhaps this week you might be able to resist that second bag and try replacing your chocolate fix for a chocolate Options drink instead. At 39 calories I can get my fix and feel good. But that's it isn't it, after you've indulged you don't feel good so work out a strategy in your head to avoid the disappointment and feel marvellous!

Good luck, stick with it and have a great week. X

A mere sneeze Suzy. Brilliant work though considering you were the party animal of the week! Hook an All Black for me and have a great week. X

Sounds a full on good time, don't worry about your gain it will all even out when the party stops lol.

Hope you like Newcastle it's my town and I'm really proud of it, we do like a party !!!! There's no sight in the world like it of the bridges as you cross the river.

Have a great week and an even better weekend, no rowdy behaviour mind !! lol

Sound like a good week, and only a slight gain, good luck getting back to it.

Good morning Lowcal and the rest of the five. Welcome back from France it sounds like a lovely holiday and you didn't lose focus.

Last Monday morning I weighed 92.2 kgs, this morning I weigh 91.6 kgs. I have basically averaged a lb a week weight loss for the last 19 weeks. Am going to enter a 10k open water swimming race for next summer so that I can have a goal for all the swimming training I am doing.

Just off to work. Have a great week, looking forward to reading the thread tonight. 🏃🏼

Congratulations on your consistent weight loss over the past 19 weeks - averaging a pound a week is fantastic, and congratulations for losing 0.6 kgs this week. That is really great!

I am impressed by your 10k open water swimming race challenge. That sounds like a great goal to work towards for next Summer.

Have a good day at work, and wishing you another great week ahead.

Good morning Lowcal and the rest of the Fab5 ✴

Well done Lowcal on not gaining more on you holidays - that's an achievement 😊

Glad you had a great time and plenty of exercise - that small gain will be gone in no time!

Anyway, I weighed 203.6 lb last week, down to 202 lb today, I'm well pleased, but my leg is still hurting, making my eating carefully so much more important.

Anyway, have a lovely week everyone, Elissy

Morning . A lb over 2 weeks on holiday is a great achievement!

I hit my goal weight last week but decided t keep going to complete the 12 weeks.

Today I weigh 56.5 kg a 0.5 kg loss end of week 10

This hopefully will mean that by week 12 I will have created a zone below target within which to maintain.

That way I can go on holiday and not be too strict so long as I return within my zone (55 to 57 kg)

All the best to everyone else. Last week's stats are really inspirationAl!

Good morning everyone.

Glad you had a wonderful holiday Lowcal and great work with those calorie burning sessions. It isn't easy is it while you're away, but you did a fabulous job and must be well pleased.

Well this week I have lost 2.2lbs which takes me to 12st 2.6lbs. Now can I possibly lose 2.7lbs this week (plus two extra days) by the time my husband comes home on leave a week on Wednesday when I go to the airport to meet him, to make my target of getting into the 11's??? I think I can, I know I can! I am as of today, exactly two stones lighter than when he first went away so really happy.

I have had a really good week with no hiccups or temptations along the way and continued with my three trips during the week to the gym after my holiday. It wasn't too difficult to get back to thank goodness.

Wishing you all a good week

Thanks so much for the lovely welcome back, and for your encouraging words. :-) It's great to be back with you all. :-)

Congratulations to you for losing 2.2 pounds this week, and also to the fact that you managed to lose 0.3 pounds when you returned from your own holiday last week - that is amazing that you managed to lose whilst on holiday!!! That shows some stamina and determination!

I bet you're excited that your husband will be home from leave a week on Wednesday. Good luck with your target to get to the 11's by then. You sound very positive and it's so brilliant to hear you're 2 stones lighter than when he first went away. It's really inspiring to hear your progress.

Well done for keeping up with your gym sessions.

Wishing you another great week ahead.

Good morning Lowcal and welcome back, we've missed you :)

It sounds as if you had a fab holiday and to only gain a pound is remarkable, well done you! :)

I've had a very strange week, with a lot of bloating and swollen legs. I don't know what the problem is, but I was really worried about gaining weight, even though I've stuck religiously to my healthy eating and I've been out walking every day, even managing 5k in an hour, which of course is pretty feeble compared to all you fitties out there :) However, even with a 1/2" increase in my waist measurement (it was 3" a few days ago!), I'm so, so happy to report a 3/4lb loss this week :)

Next week I shall be into the 18's for sure :)

Good luck everyone :)

Hi Moreless,

Thanks, it's good to be back. I've missed you all too! :-)

Sorry to hear that you've had a week of swollen legs and a lot of bloating. Maybe see your GP if it continues, just to check it out. Sounds like you've been sticking to your healthy eating and exercise, and it's brilliant that you managed 5k in an hour. Really well done. That is a long way!!!

Congratulations on losing 0.75 pound this week, that is really good! It sounds like your bloating is subsiding as your waist measurement has come down again.

Good luck with your goal to be in the 18's next week. Wishing you a great week.

Welcome back Lowcal, and glad you enjoyed your holiday to the max, getting in some lovely French cuisine and lots of exercise. A gain of 0.5lbs is nothing really, so be proud.

I've had a pretty good week despite Aquafit being cancelled yet again, and have gone down from 56 to 55.2 which is a respectable loss of 0.8 kilos. I bought new jeans on Saturday cos I had to keep holding up my jeans in a game of dodge ball with the Friday Club kids. Woohoo!

Have great week everyone 😀

Welcome back Lowcal. Sounds like you had a wonderful holiday. And 1 pound gain is amazing for post-hols.

Despite all my walking, only managed a loss of 0.5lbs taking me down to 16 2.7lbs. I did go carb overboard at the weekend so half expected a small loss.

Good luck everyone else 😊

Great that you've been doing lots of walking. Congratulations on losing 0.5 pound this week, I know you were hoping for a bit more as a result of your walking, but it is still a really good loss. You're getting closer to the 15's.

Morning everyone and welcome back lowcal

I have heard French cuisine is healthy and the secret to their slimness is in the wine - sounds like a nice break.

I work in the middle east so I also had some time off for the Eid holidays and my imagination was filled with hopes of jumping up and down in front of youtube videos and planning every meal, but instead I ended up sleeping, nibbling and watching tv.

I didn't post last week because I was hiding from the scales but cannot hide from the fact that, when I get up in the morning, it feels like someone added another brick to the already full bag on my body.

So back on the scales and I weight 14 stone 12 which means a 3lbs gain in 2 weeks.

Never mind, reading this forum always inspires me to keep trying :-)

I have started my personal training sessions but I'm not sure how I feel about it. The trainer is depressed and says he has lost the meaning of life because apparently he is happiest running through forests and living in the cold, so as to why he is working in the desert is a mystery.

He has started me off with simple weight training that doesn't leave me in any pain so I hope that doesn't mean it's not working

He has mentioned for my weight I should concentrate 60% on cardio and that HIIT is not for my level of fitness and that fitness is like reading 1 page a day of a very big book because it builds up slowly and will take dedication and time.

I actually went to a TRX class the other day and as I watched all the super toned girls with their synchronized suspended planks and me flat on my face in despair, I realized he was right.

So here's to another week and another 7 pages of my journey.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to gracie1985

Hi Gracie,

Glad to hear you've also had a break for the Eid holidays, and you also did well not to put on too much weight over the holidays. A 3 pound gain in two weeks means you gained 1.5 pound this week for the stats (providing you and Ruth are ok with that amount - Ruth does our stats currently, and she is brilliant at it).

It sounds like your personal trainer is struggling with his own sense of motivation currently, and that must be quite challenging for you to cope with, as you're hoping for encouragement and help from him. But you sound like you're perservering, and I hope things go well. Gradually building up your fitness levels is definitely a positive way to go, and it does take time and patience. But you'll get there - we all have to walk before we can run.

Wishing you a good week ahead, and hope you enjoy it.

It can be difficult to get back on track after holidays are over, so wishing you lots of success with that, and myself too - I need to avoid the various French biscuits that seem to have followed me back home from France!!! My plan is to have one next weekend, and not before! Wish me luck... :-)

Prin profile image
Prin in reply to gracie1985

Try as many different classes as you can - even the same class with different instructors to find something you enjoy, I am assuming you are paying for your personal trainer- make sure you are getting value for money, he should be motivating you and setting you goals, good luck👊

gracie1985 profile image
gracie1985 in reply to Prin

The thing about classes is I always feel so disappointed that I can't keep up, the only thing I can do is zumba so might go back to that.

I have this really horrible habit of requiring numbers for everything, for example: If I were to do bicep curls I would want to know which weight to use, how many bicep curls I have to do over x amount of time to see x amount of definition. Then I can stick to it because it is clear

but if someone says just do a bit of exercise it will do you good and you will get fit eventually - it just doesn't process for me :-(

its probably why I did lighterlife back in the day lol I knew if I had no other food and only the 4 packs a day for 1 week I will lose 2-3lbs that week

work in progress

in reply to gracie1985

Hi Gracie, I had a similarly uninspiring start with my running group, I think it was because it was the summer, people were away on holidays etc, and the sessions kept getting cancelled or clashed with things I was doing, so I couldn't go to my first session for ages despite good intentions. Then I went to a few sessions and they were very good, but frustratingly alternate sessions are now based at 'Shake Shack', a milkshake bar in the Westfield shopping centre. I like going to the park to exercise not the shopping centre, and I find it really difficult to understand why it would be an attraction to go to a running group based somewhere that will give you free milkshakes and fries afterwards. So I'm now looking for a new running group! Maybe you could look for a new personal trainer? It needs to be right, as this is a big process that you're embarking on. I think you need someone who can really inspire you to develop fitness within your environment, and who doesn't tell you want you can't do, instead focuses more on what you can do. Unless maybe this guy can pick up his mood and you can start to feel the effects of the exercises he's advising you to do?

gracie1985 profile image
gracie1985 in reply to

Have you tried park run? there are probably a lot of running groups as well via meetup.com - I've signed up for 10 PT sessions and hopefully it will improve, if not I will definitely try someone new

The lady I work with had sessions at a gym 20min away (but 45min with daily traffic) in a ghetto area and she lost 5kg in 2 months and it is inspiring and frustrating to see her shrink

Think I need to work on my commitment to things in general which might go a long way with other things in my life.

in reply to gracie1985

I've done one parkrun but it was near a friend's. I do keep meaning to go to my nearest one (which isn't all that near, would need to cycle there...). I'm also looking at doing 'virtual races' on Sparkpeople.com. Thanks for suggesting meetup.com, I'll try that too. Good luck for the rest of your sessions - maybe be up front with him about what you know works for you, maybe he will enjoy the challenge a bit more if you go back to him with specific requests?

Good morning Lowcal, welcome back and good to hear you only gained 1lb on your holiday, this is really minimal don't you think? Hope it reverses quickly. I'm impressed at your 30min treadmill sessions and walks and gym time. It sounds like you had really good focus and it paid off.

I've gained 1lb this week too, but like Suzybenj not from a week away, I think it's down to the birthday party I went to on Saturday. Lots of snacks and buffet and cider etc. Also went to my bfs family for lunch beforehand and his mum especially made a wheat free choc cake so I didn't have my usual excuse for turning down afters. It was good though! I'm comfortably within my maintaining range though at 10st5, so will just watch things carefully to make sure no gain again next week.

Hi Ruth (lovely Fab 5'er and stats woman!),

Sounds like you had an enjoyable time at the Birthday party on Saturday, and lunch at your bfs family home. You're doing fantasticially as you're comfortably within your maintaining range at 10st5, and that's brilliant! Really well done. :-)

Thanks for your encouraging words about my holiday. I do feel good about having a small gain, as it could have been so much worse!

Hope you enjoyed your run - and that you got back before the rain came down.

Morning Ruth

It sounds like you've enjoyed the birthday party and you obviously didn't go too mad at the buffet table to only gain 1 lb. You have already achieved your target weight and there will always be social occassions throughout life to tempt us. As you have said the trick will be to a little more careful this week to counteract the party. Life is to be enjoyed after all and you're at a healthy weight to be able to enjoy it!

in reply to 3rd-Time-Here

Maybe there was something in the air on Saturday though, as it sounds like you took your eye off the ball too. Yes, this week I'll definitely watch things that little bit more closely, and hope to either stay the same or lose that 1lb back off next week. I'm impressed at your progress so far with the kettle bell swings. I might start to add some weights into my strength exercises this week as I'd really like to improve my upper body strength. Will be thinking of you as I do, say, 25 lifts, and you're somewhere else doing hundreds and hundreds...

I have maintained this week, my weight loss is always very slow, so I'm not worried about it. Hoping for a loss next week.

Morning everyone, glad you had a lovely holiday Lowcal. I stayed the same but that's ok I lost last week, at least it wasn't going up! Been a funny week work wise brought a lot home, and vet has restricted the dog to ten minute walks due to some back pain so I've done very little walking. Was planning long walk today but after working all weekend when the weather was beautiful ive woken up to rain and stormy winds! No more excuses for not giving my bedroom the massive de - clutter it needs then lol. Good luck everyone ☀️

Morning All

Delighted to hear that you had a very enjoyable holiday Low Cal and I'm certain that you will very quickly turn around your tiny weight gain.

After a week of sticking to plan, I lost all interest on Saturday and instead of getting off my bottom and going for a walk I did absolutely nothing for the whole day/night (hubby was away for the weekend). Fortunately, I managed to get my act together a little yesterday and continued with the kettlebell challenge which I started on Thursday. I've managed 800 swings to date, started off slowly but did 400 yesterday so I'm almost at the right level to reach my target of 10 000 in 5 weeks. I'll keep you all posted on my progress.

I've maintained weight this week and to be honest I am a little bit cross with myself for losing focus on Saturday but it's done back to plan today. This weeks goal, the usual exercise plan pilates, cross-trainer and kettlebell swings but I want to try and squeeze in some golf practice as well. Weight loss target for the week to be able to post a loss of at least 1lb next week. Good luck everyone for a productive week.

Hi Lucca

It was a slow start to be honest and I was a total lazy oaf on Saturday but finally switched my mind on to it yesterday. I did 400 swings yesterday and don't feel too bad today, if I get home from work on time I might even try to fit in a sneaky 200 before pilates!

Hi Mrsg3,

Thanks for your kind words, much appreciated! It's good to be back with such lovely motivating people after a relaxing holiday. :-)

Well done to you for sticking with the plan all week, and please don't let Saturday put you off - it was probably due to your hubby being away - any change in our routine can definitely put extra challenges in our way, and be a bit of an obstacle.

I am so impressed by your kettlebell challenge, and you are inspiring me to think about doing more with my own kettlebell. I only have the one, but I do like it! Ruth's strength challenge for September was similarly inspiring. I am going to continue doing some of that, but I think I'll also try to add in some regular kettlebell swings, thanks to your motivating post. Thank you!!! :-)

Hope you manage to squeeze your golf practice in, as planned, and hope you have a great week ahead. You were 1.5 pound last week, and I know you lost 10.5 pound in 10 weeks, so you've maintained all that great progress this week, it's all good!!! :-)

Wishing you another great week ahead.

Thank you Lowcal, as always I find the inspiration from reading posts on here spurs me on. Saturday is already a distant memory, onwards with the journey and into week 12. I have no intention of my journey coming to an end just because I have reached the end of the plan, it is all about lifestyle change for me and the changes made seem to be reasonable sustainable with the odd blip here and there. Good luck with adding some regular kettlebell swings into your routine.

We all have the odd blip but we're in it together for the long haul and hey, you didn't gain weight so it's all good! You sound like you are ready to do battle again, keep posting, we are all behind you! :-D

Morning Lowcal and all the other Fab5ers :-)

Lowcal - I'm so impressed that you managed to keep your holiday gain to within a lb - I would not have had such discipline with all that lovely food. Anyway, glad to have you back, and sounds like you had a lovely time !

I've managed to lose a lb this week - down to 182.8lb, which wasn't too bad considering time of the month, and I was struggling to reach my distance target this week (due to an errant dog and neighbour, feeling rubbish, too much work etc). I'm going to see if I can up the walking again this week - although of course as I type this, it's pouring with rain for the day :-( (although I have been out for a run this morning, so it shouldn't be an excuse !)

Good luck everyone and have a good week :-)

in reply to

Hey Lucca, you need to be more pleased with that 1lb. It's very respectable and all going in the right direction. I also struggled to reach my distance target, but remember there was a time when we were all lounging on our couches and had never even heard of couch to 5k or found this super forum. It's all really good progress. This week is another week. Your neighbour will hopefully not repeat her dog-mania-inducing treats trick, and you'll be getting even fitter with your runs, strength and mega walking (and cycling??) I have every faith :)

Welcome back Lowcal! Great to hear you enjoyed la vie francaise but didn't suffer too much as a result.

Morning Fab Four and everyone else - hope everyone's week has got off to a good start despite the gloomy weather. We were really spoiled with all the sunshine last week, weren't we?

Well, enough of the weather forecast - last week I weighed in at 17.7, today I weigh 17.5. Special thanks to ruth_canal_runner for reminding me to measure after last week's weight gain - another inch had crept off waist and hips whilst I wasn't looking = one happy bunny. That's 4 inches off waist and 5 off hips since I started C25K at the beginning of May and backed it up with the 12-week weight loss plan from mid-August.

Am still tweaking my diet to try and speed up the weight loss. 1/2-1 lb per week is OK, but I'd like it to be a bit faster. At least it's mainly in the right direction. Apart from my holiday at Christmas which is my first target (to have lost as much weight as possible - sensibly), I now have two more - to run the Race for Life 5K in 2016 (heard last week that yet another dear friend had died following breast cancer which spread) and my brother's wedding in late July.

Wishing everyone a happy, successful week.

in reply to Jigglypuff_62

Hi Jigglypuff, that's a great result with your 2lbs loss this week, I reckon one of those punds was hiding from the scales last week. Glad you checked your measurements and saw the change there. I have to say your stats are very impressive, that's a lot of inches, and they're moving very quickly. Maybe think of what your 'sensible' goal for Christmas will actually be. With about 12 weeks to go and your current 1lb/week rate, maybe aim to be in the mid-11s?

Sorry to hear about your friend, I also have a friend with breast cancer which has spread, she's doing well, but it's very difficult knowing what to say, and basically trying to carry on with everything as normal. I think doing a race for life is a great response to those difficult feelings, hopefully it'll help you feel purposeful and will be a great way to remember her. Hope you have a great week and good luck with all those goals :)

Jigglypuff_62 profile image
Jigglypuff_62 in reply to

Thanks Ruth. I've lost several dear friends in recent years to various cancers, most of which started out as breast cancer and spread. My sister had it a couple of years ago and is in remission. To get below 17 stone would be a dream - I have not weighed that in.... forever. :0)

in reply to Jigglypuff_62

Hi Jigglypuff - I meant mid 16s not mid 11s - doh! The website won't let me edit at the moment so I'll have to leave my error for all to see :( Hope you do reach below 17stone in the near future. It's totally do-able. For me, my big goal was getting away from the 12 stone mark (hence my mistake perhaps!), but we all have different starting points and as a result look at things from different perspectives!

I'm sorry to hear you've lost so many friends like this and good to hear your sister is in remission, hope she stays healthy over the longer term. I've lost 1 friend who was in her 40s, and have two friends in their 30s have had cancer, one of whom is now stage 4. I find it particularly difficult when it's friends who are the same age or not much older than me, and not necessarily any more likely to get cancer. I really hope there are some good scientific developments for its treatment/prevention soon.

Hi new, but think tis might help motivate me to keep forging on. Weight Loss only 1/4 lb this week, nothing changed still watching them calories like a hawk and exercising, but period due next week so hopefully this will explain the slow down and mood swings. Love being 48 and menopausal!!! - Not.

in reply to CazCip

Oh CazCip - I sympathise with you. I am going through the same thing as the moment - my moods are getting awful, really started turning into panic attacks sometimes, and my dates are all over the place. Going to think about seeing the GP soon as I will struggle to cope if it gets much worse :-( Well done about getting into the first week so well - hopefully next week you'll begin to see a difference :-)

moreless profile image

Hi CazCip, 1/4lb loss is still a loss, especially as you're pre-menstrual.

Give yourself another 10 years and you'll be post menopausal, like me :)

Good luck for next week :)

in reply to CazCip

Hi CazCip, as you go along hopefully these weeks where there's a smaller loss will become less frustrating. The scales don't go down steadily, there are all sorts of bumps and plateaus along the way. I hope you can get some encouragement from your first 1/4lb lost, and keep focusing on the calories and exercise. Also, try drinking lots of water and herbal teas to combat any water retention, and keep an eye on your measurements, which may go down more steadily than the scales. Good luck! :)

CazCip profile image
CazCip in reply to

Thanks for the tips, will increase water intake. Yes Plateaus but still a loss so will try to up the mood somewhat,.

Jigglypuff_62 profile image
Jigglypuff_62 in reply to CazCip

CazCip I sympathise too. A couple of weeks ago my weight was 3 lbs adrift of what I hoped for/expected - all down to PMT, so next week you will surely see the benefit of all your hard work. I haven't had many of the classic menopause symptoms, but have had very troublesome periods for years and for about 12 months now have had menopausal arthritis which, let me say, is a right pain in the butt and makes it very difficult to exercise sometimes. Hang on in there - your healthy diet for weight loss has the benefit that it will help your menopausal symptoms too, especially if you incorporate lots of wholegrains, seeds, etc. Good luck!

Hi all, I joined last week and this morning was my 1st weigh in. Hi tjr1504, hats off to you for even attempting to do any exercise if you had a tummy bug! That's a great loss for your first week, but be warned some of it may be due to dehydration. I hope you can see further loss next week, and from the sounds of your determined attitude you probably will, but in case the scales don't cooperate, maybe be patient as your body recovers from the bug. Good luck and hope you see 16 on the scales asap :)

Morning all!

Lowcal, that is impressive just 1lb after 2 weeks holiday. Shows importance of exercise! That is where i have been struggling as knees are playing up. Doc said keep going to gym but not as intense, thing was i only ever did low impact so have just tried to make sure walking , but would really like to improve on the fitness.

i have struggled for a while going up and down by a few pounds but basically staying the same. So decided i mentally needed to feel i was starting 12 week plan again, particularly as not exercising as much. Good news is like my original first week lost 6.5 lbs! I have been sticking to plan all week, even with meal out. To be honest think helped by tooth ache and subsequent antibiotics, so only felt like soup at beginning of week! Also worried muscle loss? However, i will be happy and hope to maintain this week after such a loss!

here is to a good healthy eating week. Once again, thank you to everyone for support in this thread and when i have posted as this is what has been the difference to me.

Go Vickster! 6lbs after a reboot, very impressive. Exercise isn't a necessary component of weight loss, but it's a good discipline to have by the end, as it will help you to maintain. Hopefully you'll find ways to manageably incorporate exercise as you go along. In the meantime you're going great guns with the calorie control it would seem. Good luck for week 2 of the plan. Don't worry about muscle loss, you will definitely be burning fat not muscle, as long as you at the very least maintain the same level of activity throughout. Have a great week and enjoy that triumphant feeling of banishing all those lbs! :)

Hi Lowcal, Fabulous 5...

Last week i was a bit moaning though I had weight loss and got a little on top again. And now it happened again. Yesterday morning and I was soooo happy I had 91,3kg. But this morning to be not too forward I was with 91,8kg. Hi! Here I am ;-) . Slowly it is creeping off, what I got on my hips with soooo much determination at eating nice, yes nice food. I like too cook and I am not too careful with butter and cream. Oh, yes, and the bars of chocolate.... but not long ago I was told it is a salad (hahaha ;-) )! Take Care all of you and all the other members like me struggling up hill or better down weight :-P .

in reply to

Hi Flower Arranger. I've checked your last week's weigh in which was 92.4kg, so if we take today's weigh in at 91.8k, that's 0.6kg, another great loss. Hope you're feeling less 'moaning' this week (!) and keep enjoying making wholesome but enjoyable food that helps you keep losing more of that unwanted extra weight.

Hi Everyone

Week 2

12st 4 down to 12st 2 this week. Down 2lbs.

Aiming to lose about 2st and started at 12st 8 1/2. So a good start, but plenty to go yet! I know it will be more difficult in weeks to come, but feeling positive as some clothes are nicely more comfortable already.

Bit of a tricky week - I was very careful Mon to Fri as I knew I'd be away at the weekend. Navigated the weekend fairly successfully but was then knocked out by a cold yesterday and soup, toast and cheese was the only fancyable option yesterday evening!

Anyway - onwards and downwards for next week!

Good luck everyone - keep up the good work - together we can do this!

xxx

in reply to

Hi Runningsoon, congrats on your 2lbs loss, that's really great progress. Sounds like soup, toast and cheese wasn't such an unhealthy response to your cold then! It's amazing how quickly we see the difference in our clothes isn't it. Make sure you enjoy them though. I found that some of my things got too big too quickly for me to get any wear out of them. So enjoy them while you can! And maybe pencil in a shopping trip for smaller sizes when you get under the 12 stone threshold. Have a great week 3 :)

Many thanks for your reply I'm on week 3 of the nhs plan, my weight this morning is 13.1.6 and I so wish to lose a stone. Do I enter it here?

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to Marianne0915

Hi Marianne,

It's great that you're on week 3 of the NHS plan, and I hope it's going well. We usually give our week's losses or gains, or whether we've maintained our weight week by week - hence if you know how much weight you lost over the past 7 days, then you could give us that result to add into our weekly stats. Or maybe give us the total weight you've lost over your 3 weeks (if you haven't been noting it week by week) and we can divide the total by 3 to get an average weight loss to include for this week. Ruth_Canal_Runner does the stats currently, so she'll just read through the posts and she'll put down whatever you tell us.

I hope it's going well for you so far.

I always post this thread before 7am on Mondays, so it's easy to find us - and when I'm away (as I was last week on holiday) one of the other Fab 5'ers posts it (Prin did the honours last week).

Feel free to interact with anyone in the thread, as everyone is friendly and supportive.

Lowcal :-)

Week 3 for me and 3 lbs off this week, I am very pleased I had felt a little lost at the beginning of the week as the app I have been using ended the free trial so I tried a few others and lost the swing of counting well and didn't feel organised. I knew I wasn't going way over but was sure. I gave in and paid for the app that suits me better and have felt a lot more controlled since, and it's far less than a slimming group (not that it's an option for me living in france)

Glad you had a good hoilday, I am visiting family for two weeks in the uk at the end of the month so will loose cooking control! I hope I can keep my self control and have a minimal gain like you, very positive role model.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to Beauregard

Hi Beauregard,

Congratulations for losing 3 pounds this week, that is a really great result. I'm glad to hear you're feeling better as a result of finding an app which suits you better. Feeling more in control is such a positive and motivating feeling.

Yes, I did indeed have a lovely holiday in your home country - it was lovely! :-) I appreciate you describing me as a very positive role model - things didn't used to be that way, I used to put on at least half a stone after most holidays. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, as I think it's normal to gain weight over holidays, but I am glad that I am more disciplined than I used to be, and I am relieved that I didn't gain very much this time. Phew!!!!

Not too long till your UK holiday, so wishing you another good week ahead.

Morning fellow Warriors! Lowcal, I think you did brilliantly to only put a pound on and still enjoy your holiday to the max, well done! I'm sure it will be gone in no time at all too.

I'm not sure how the stats work on this so I'll be specific. Last Monday I was having "the month from hell" and had put 1 pound on even though I had stuck to my meal plan. I continued to stick with it this week, weighed this morning, and since last Monday I have lost a total of 7 pounds. I think it is counted week by week rather than overall loss since starting out? If that is so, my +1 would have been registered last week and this week I will register -7?

To me this is proof positive that no matter what happens I have to just stick at it and have faith. I blow up like a balloon every month so I can probably expect future gains too - I'll be surprised if there aren't any! There's a holiday coming at the end of October, I expect to put weight on then too. The main thing is just to keep going forwards and keep the end goal in sight...reach a healthy weight and then maintain it for life: and that's what I plan to do!

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to WeightWarrior

Hi WeightWarrior,

Thanks so much for your kind words - I appreciate them! :-)

Yes, you are right, you have indeed lost 7 pounds this week, which Ruth will count as your stats for this week, and you gained 1 pound last week, which she would have also counted in the stats. I am so glad that you got through that "month from hell" ok - you've survived it! That is an achievement, and what a brilliant result to have this week - half a stone gone! Wow, that is phenomenal.

It's a really good example of what can happen when you do stick at something and have faith - patience has seen you through. You've given some excellent advice "keep going forwards and keep the end goal in sight... reach a healthy weight and then maintain it for life" - yes, those are very wise and achievable goals.

You sound positive and motivated, and I wish you another great week, and hopefully a much more pleasant month ahead.

Welcome back Lowcal. Your holiday sounds lovely!

I've stayed the same weight this week but I'm quite happy with that as I'm not really walking much following my recent surgery. I'm not feeling very hungry either so I'm not eating the meals that I was used to having. I'm hoping to do a bit more walking this week and hopefully get back to work and my usual routine soon as I'm sure that makes a difference for me.

Hope you all have a good week.

Candystripe profile image

Good afternoon Joyce and congratulations for maintaining this week.

I think it's very sensible that following surgery you take things a little easier and when you feel able to start walking again. Yes routine certainly helps, when the usual routine disappears then it sort of throws everything out, so you have done very well. Enjoy your week.

Hi all :) Lowcal a small addition on the scales is worth it for a happy holiday and you'll have it off again in a jiffy! I've been struggling to get onto the site again recently - can read but not post - so I have been here enjoying all the updates but sadly unable to comment :(

Sooo this week I am 17st 8lbs and this is BAD!!!!! I did Dryathlon throughout September

and still managed to gain weight (I always knew I was exceptionally gifted ;) )

I knew this was on the cards as my clothes have been tighter and it is not a good feeling.

I have written up an exercise plan for the month up to my birthday which includes graduating c25k once and for all on my 40th birthday. I dragged my hubby along to Cobrafit last Tuesday evening OUCHYYYYY is all!!! Not sure about the "fat burning" tea beforehand and strangely textured protein drink after the session but I will go again.. philosophy being exercise that hurts for 3 days after must be a good workout??? We'll see :)

Hope everyone has a happy healthy week.

Glad you managed to get onto the site eventually - sorry to hear you've been having some problems accessing it. Glad you can finally comment! :-)

Well done for doing Dryathlon throughout September. Sorry that you gained some weight though - that's a tough outcome!

It sounds like you have a plan of action now, and that exercise plan you've drawn up sounds like a great thing. Cobrafit does sound painful though! I am impressed at your resolve to return - hope it gets better and less painful as time goes on.

Great that you'll be Graduating from the c25k on your 40th Birthday. That will be a great achievement, so enjoy your time leading up to that!

Wishing you a great week ahead, and some losses on the scales for next week, all being well.

Good afternoon Kate.

I know what you mean about frustration with this site. I have been trying to post replies but the words when typed appear five minutes later. It's like waiting for paint to dry and each response is taking me at least half an hour grrrrrrr!

Well done for completing Dryathlon........so it's not the drink then :) However you have taken very positive steps writing up your exercise plan for the month. That's very commendable. I don't know what Cobrafit is but it sounds like a weight buster to me and will hopefully help those scales move downwards for next weeks weigh in.

Have a much improved week Kate and enjoy those fat burning teas. :( X

ZestHealthy BMI in reply to WiiFii

Hi WiiFii,

Welcome to our Monday weigh-in group, and welcome to the forum. The Monday weigh-in group IS this thread - I usually post the thread every Monday, before 7am (unless I'm away and another Fab 5'er posts in my absence - they are Prin, Suzybenj, Candystripe and Ruth_Canal_Runner).

Basically people who want to join in our Monday weigh-in group just post their weights and goals for the week, and anything else they want to share in the post, and one of the Fab 5'ers responds (at least one of us to every person who posts).

It is free. We are just enthusiastic forum members, like youself, and this Monday thread has been running for almost 3 years (or thereabouts).

You are very welcome to join us, if it's something you'd like to be a part of.

Have you looked at the NHS 12 week weight loss plan? Most of us are following that plan. You can access it by clicking on the icon in the middle of the screen (top) labelled 'Weight Loss NHS' and you can find it there.

I'd recommend using an app to track your calories and exercise too - something like Myfitnesspal - it's really helpful and easy to use, and it's free as well.

Anyway, if you want to - share your starting weight, and your goals - maybe read through the NHS 12 week plan to help you think about your goals, and we're here every Monday. Join us if you want to! :-)

Lowcal :-)

Hi Lowcal,

Hi Lowcal, Well done on only gaining 1 lb in 2 weeks while on holiday. That is a great achievement, especially with French cuisine. Sounds like you had a lovely holiday.

I am pleased to say that I have lost 2lbs this week. I have dropped from 13st 0lbs to 12st 12lbs. Which is great since I had a little chocolate and a slice of cake yesterday to celebrate achieving all my goals I had set for myself at an archery competition. Didn't win any medals, but yesterday was about personal goals and I had a great success.

Hope you have a good week.

Great that you did well in your Archery Competition too - some chocolate and a slice of cake sounds like a delicious celebration of those goals. I think personal goals being achieved means such a lot - so really well done. :-)

Wishing you another great week ahead, and enjoy being in those 12's.

You will get there. Small and steady goals was how I lost the weight before, but them I wasn't on the meds I am now. :-D

Here's hoping the 12's are here to stay. :-D

Good afternoon Lowcal and other fab people!

Great that you had a lovely holiday and actually a huge pat on the back for only gaining one pound while in France surrounding by what must have been huge gastronomic temptations!

I shall keep it short and not so sweet as grumpy and fed up that I stayed the same this week at 11 stones and 1 pound. The 10's are remaining elusive at present. Being cross is sometimes good motivation for me to focus on what I want to achieve so I might try to stay cross all week ;))

Hope everyone has a good week.

Sorry to hear you're feeling grumpy - those 10's are being elusive, and I can understand your frustration, but I will still say Congratulations for maintaining your weight, as it is definitely better to maintain than to gain! :-)

I've gained 1lb this week so I'm back up to 12stone. Not surprised at all, was a really tough week. I'm feeling better now and started circuits back yesterday. I'm sore today, but it's a nice kind of sore. Missed that feeling!

Sorry to hear you've had a really tough week, but glad that you're feeling better now, and that you have been able to re-start your circuits as of yesterday. Take it easy, and try not to overdo things. I know you described your knee as being 'pretty busted' in last week's post, so do make sure you're healed up. Your health is important! :-)

Hopefully you'll be able to get that 1 pound gain off again really soon, and be back under 12 stone again next week, all being well.

Wishing you a better week ahead in terms of having a less tough week! You deserve one! :-)

Hi Jane_Ski,

A very warm welcome to you, and thanks so much for joining us. You've come to the right place if you'd like to post your weight online, as this is a Monday weigh-in group, and so you just post it here - if you want to be part of the group. Everyone is welcome.

Some people prefer to do their posts individually, and that's an option too - so just read round the site, and see what your own preference is.

But like I say, you're very welcome here, in this Weigh-in group thread. I usually post it just before 7am every Monday, with the same title (current date in brackets) and then one or more of the Fab 5'ers (myself, Prin, Suzybenj, Candystripe, and Ruth_Canal_Runner) respond to the people who contribute to the thread, and we try to motivate and encourage one another.

We also hope that anyone who contributes feels free to interact and talk to anyone else in the thread - that's the nice thing about the forum, posting often and getting online support is really motivating.

So, feel free to share whatever you like with us about your weight loss goals, your weight, etc, whatever you feel comfortable to share - and hope to see you around and about here and in the forum generally.

Hi Lowcal, and everyone else,

Sounds like you had a great holiday - good on you for keeping active thoughout :)

Have a great week everyone!

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to Sara643

Hi Sara643,

Thank you. :-)

Congratulations to you for losing 0.4 kg, that is really good! I know you described it as 'not a whole lot' - but it is a very respectable loss.

I also find weekends more challenging, but at the same time I have tried to address that by pre-planning what extra treats I allow myself to have on weekends, and that does seem to help. I allow myself a packet of crisps for example, and I have desserts on weekends, but not in the week usually. I also usually have some alcohol, but again, I limit the amount.

I usually try to make up for the extras with some extra exercise too - those are just some things that I do to try to balance the weekends better - I am sure others may have other strategies that they use.

Maybe look at your own individual triggers - is it when you feel bored, or when you're feeling happy or sad. Maybe understanding more about what triggers it for you will help to think of a suitable strategy to help you. We are all different, and what works for one person may not necessarily work for another. But it can be worth a go to see what works, and what doesn't.

Good luck, and wishing you another good week ahead.

Lowcal :-)

two week on holiday and only 1 lb gain, is really good going in my book....

Hi Alison185,

Sorry to hear you had problems accessing the site, but glad you made it to post in the end. Great to see you! I hope you enjoyed your Birthday celebrations. Sorry to hear you've been struggling after that and that you've had some other worries.

Wow, a 5k a day challenge, that sounds very active indeed. Do they allow you any rest days, or is it literally one every day?

Good luck with addressing your food, as I know you're focusing on getting back on track this week. Pre-planning is a helpful strategy for me, in terms of deciding what you're going to eat and when - but I know that strategies are personal things, and don't always work for each person. It's important to find out what works for you, and try to devise an individualised plan that will help you to achieve your goals.

I would however like to say Congratulations for maintaining your weight though, as that is much better than gaining weight, and is an achievement in itself. So well done, and I wish you a loss on the scales for next week. I know you're getting very close to the 13's.

Wishing you a good week ahead.

Wow, you are doing really well - losing 7.3 kilos at the end of week 6 - really good! Lovely that you've treated yourself to some new boots - hope you enjoy wearing those! Great also to hear you're feeling so much better.

If you'd like Ruth to include your weight loss for this week in the stats, then just let us know how much you lost for this latest week - otherwise, we could maybe calculate it over the 6 weeks, and say put down 1.22 kilos lost for this week (i.e. 7.3 kilos divided by 6).

Wishing you another great week ahead.

Hi Bakersdozen,

I must apologise for not responding to your question earlier - I was away for a couple of days.

It would be great if you'd like to join our Monday weigh-ins. Basically, I always post the Monday weigh-in thread just before 7am every Monday, so you need to look out for a thread entitled "Please Join Us for a Monday Weigh-in (current date in brackets)" - the next one will therefore be dated 19th October 2015 - so keep a look out for it - or alternatively you could click on 'follow' for my name (Lowcal) and then you would be automatically notified when I post a thread.

I really hope you'll decide to join us. It's a really friendly and supportive group.

Hope things are going well for you so far. Not sure what weight loss plan you're doing, but the NHS 12 week plan is an excellent structure - and worth a look if you've not seen it yet. You can access it via the icon in the top of the screen entitled 'Weight Loss NHS' and you can get to the downloadable 12 week plan that way.
