You are halfway there already by admitting it. Sensible eating plan ( I follow slimming world) and gradually increase exercise. Walk every day or run and you will find the weight starts to come off :-)

Hi Richthebaker,

Time to focus hard and grab the bull by the horns, then!

First find out your BMI and work out how much weight you need to lose.

Second, read up on the NHS live well lose weight pages.

Third, work out how you put the weight on - portion size? eating regime? too much sugar? too much fat? not enough exercise? What's 'wrong' with what you're doing now?

Fourth, do the third step again, this time being brutally honest about E V E R Y thing you eat. At home, at work, in the car, the pub E V E R Y where. And about A L L that you eat - not just the pasta, but the cheese sauce, not just the fruit, the cream counts too. NOTHING, not one morsel, doesn't count.

If you need some help on addressing that honestly, you might like to look at some of the old Secret Eaters programmes on 4OD.

Then, change all those bad habits for better ones. There's an excellent free 12 week plan on the NHS Choices pages. Follow the advice about rate of weight loss, hydration, nutrition and the like.

Tackle this weight thing once and for ever- we're talking life change.

I've lost 20 kgs since 11th January. I now feel unbelievably better for it, in fact, it's like walking around in someone else's body. I started this wearing 40 in waist trousers as I couldn't really keep squeezing into 38 inch ones.

Right now, I'm wearing 34 inch waist drainpipe jeans.

Good luck with your weight loss journey.

Hi JetRob,

I very much doubt that this "amazing... formulation" will change the world very much at all.

In fact, I would go so far as to say that creating an emotional or psychological dependence on weight loss products is probably counter-productive.

I mean how does taking meal replacements actually re-educate / re-train someone to eat sensibly on a day-to-day basis, or to take control of their eating habits in the real world of family and work, etc?

Or is the idea that someone should just keep eating the meal replacements for the rest of his/her life?

It's been said many times before, but unless a peson changes what s/he does that made him/her overweight, then s/he will not only not lose weight, but very probably continue to gain weight.

And unless you change the lifestyle - i.e. the eating and exercise/activity habits - all that usually happens is that at the end of the "diet" period, the people put the weight back on again in the following months/years.

It's easy to lose weight. I could eat bread and water for four or five days and lose a big chunk of weight. I'd feel awful and I'd not be doing my health any great favours, but it's easy to do. And after that then start eating the usual stuff and put the weight all back on again.

The 'hard' bit is changing the long term and sometimes deeply entrenched habits. Someone who is say 60 years old, coud be dealing with "bad" eating habits that s/he has had for forty-odd years or more.

Why is it hard? Well basically because people are - to varying degrees - resistant to change for all sorts of human reasons, laziness, anxiety, fear, doubt, too busy, too distracted, etc.
