Has anyone got any tips on aids to help get up off the bed. I am not able to use bed raisers on my bed and as it is low I am struggling to get up from the bed as anyone with IBM experiences.
Any ideas on overcoming this please?
Thanks in advance

The way I overcame this problem was to change to a profile bed. Go to lowest setting to lift legs into bed and then raise so feet just touching floor to slide of mattress to get up.
I also have IBM (first diagnosed 2005) and have a "mattress lift" fitted to my bed. I have received a lot practical items for my Adult Care dept of the County Council. I suspect all County councils will have something similiar. I requested a visit when I started to struggle with getting on and off toilet (now have 4" high seat + metal surround to hold onto). I also mentioned could no longer get in and out of bath and don't like showers as likely to fall, so they put a seat in bath which rises and lowers electronically, brillant. Feel much safer sat.As for bed, originally they provided a "pillow lift" with remote control. I found that when it was in up position it practically shot me off bed. I'm only 5 ft 3 ins but my feet were dangling! the took contraption away and installed a MATTRESS LIFT INSTEAD. it is strapped to the mattress and bed. When you want pillows raised you use the remote. In a more upright position you should be able to get on and off easier. Worth asking your Adult Care dept if they can help? I have numerous other gadgets thy have supplied, I could not live here, in a house on my own without their support. Good luck
I am so grateful to you for taking the time for such an informative response. I will certainly look further into all you have mentioned as my whole life with IBM revolves around aids and adaptations. Thanks so much I really appreciate it. I may ask you for the names of the mattress and pillow lift too please.
When the pillow lift went back to the Equipment dept I threw away the paperwork, as obviously no use to me. I have turfed out the booklet on the mattress elevator: made by smitcare which has a website so you should be able to look up a picture of it. smitcare.co.uk . This one is called DreamMaster Light Mattress Elevator. I have support bars attached to the elevator but found that once the mattress was up I could not easily reach the bars. Adult Care came to the rescue and provided an independent bar to grab hold of. This mattress elevator will also raise the bottom section so feet and legs are up. I have never used that but the option is there. This fits a divan or slatted bed.The actual mattress I bought at the same time as my bed, choosing this one which is deep, with IBM in mind. Once I am in an upright position I can swing legs over the edge, sit there a bit to get balance then using the grab rail provided I can stand up!
