Because One Thanksgiving Isn't Enough

Okay, did the 16.5 hour drive from home to Pike's Peak where my 2 kids have moved and love it. We missed the 3-4' of snow they had by the 2 days it takes to drive there. When there, still snow. On the way, many still getting first plowed out. But most of it was manageable there, and seeing the snow being blown of the mountain tops was neat. Luckily, my son, who has developed my love of cooking did 90% of the work. Each dish a culinary delight! We did it weeks early. Thanksgiving is a day to be with family, not a day on the calendar. Great trip, though driving, I drove the whole thing both ways, with stops half way there and back.

So, we get home, and the brother-in-law who hosts most things these days. Thanksgiving was always our thing. But since most of the relatives have passed, it became whomever wanted it, take it. So the brother and sister in law took it since. They still had 2 brother in laws and their spouses. But this year, on of those had to go to another state for a relative, and the other brother was still on back surgery #3 not yet resolved, so it was given back to us, for the total of 5 people including ourselves. So here we go again. Actually enjoy it! A week of preparing and Everything is all set. Make ahead everything except the bird. Make ahead home made gravy from turkey wings...., So, if you get stressed out about holidays, change your mindset and make it FUN!

Okay, cleaning the house? Well....at least it has forced us to do a deep cleaning l o n g overdue! And it's done. And feels great. I'm tired, sore, and ready to go! That along with raking the leaves 3x. Why can't I learn, like dusting. I dusted and it came back. I'm not doing that again! Leaves?

Pike’s Peak would be a lovely place to have a big family gathering! What is a little snow? It won’t stop a family determined to get together. Sounds like a good time will be had by all at your newly cleaned home. Enjoy every minute of the day. 😊

Sixteen and a half hours? Mercy! Did you drive it in 1 day? We drove 4 hours. Well, add more hours for time for a 15-year old dog to sniff every blade of grass before she tinkled. No snow, but we hit rush hour going through Mobile. That was.... fun. So glad to be home in my tiny hamlet. I may never leave again. 😎

Sorry, so late to respond. No, did it in 2 days. I used to do a 24 hour drive straight thru without stopping except for gas, bathrooms, and snacks, because time was always critical back then. But I could never do that again. Though I can rest driving as long as I avoid the big cities.

Wow you are very busy, it's great that you were able to take a trip and see so many people. I went to pikes peak several years ago and drove all the way up. It was scary but worth it. So beautiful. The drive down was more intimidating but I was able to downshift a lot and not use my brakes. Halfway down they stop you to check your brakes. The man said that mine were the best he had seen all day and I was able to continue without pulling over to cool down.

My son did the driving up and down last time. This time, it was closed for the year, regardless of the 2' - 4' they got just before arriving this year. Yes, even in his old van, no problem downshifting all the way!

The bypass was a piece of heaven avoiding Denver. Take the windmill drive next time. The nicest quietest 2 lane highway drive I know of.
