Tired of being tired?

just need encouragement to get out of this downward cycle.

I used to be quite active to keep my MS at bay (lots of intensive yoga, exercise at home...). I stopped for hip surgery and have not been able to get back to the workout routine. It has decreased my ability to fight MS fatigue for sure. This downward spiral has gotten to a place where I'm tired of being tired. Yet, I can't get myself to get started again. The ongoing rain and bad weather have not helped. The hip replacement has been fantastic so no problem there. I only have bad excuses to not start working out again.

Just venting...

Do you have any hobbies that you've been neglecting? Maybe if you can lose yourself in something that makes you really happy, it'll perk your spirits up enough to get back into the routine you want.

Keep venting! Many of us who have MS will vent right alongside of you because we are tired of being tired as well. A lot of it is a mind game to get your body moving again. Go up in the attic and dig it out of the old trunk where you used to store your precious memories and get that positive attitude working in your direction again. Remember though nothing happens overnight with MS so every little tìny improvement you see take as a big win for you're improvement. Before you know it you will see that tiny improvements start to add up and you will see a significant improvement in your ability to do more without being so exhausted. Keep working and keep pushing and remember together what we are stronger! Fancy59.

have you learned, thought about what you can do at home with little on no equipment ? How many push ups can you do, sit-ups. how long is your plank? How many deep squats? Ther e are ways around the start think out side the box

I could've written that myself.

I was very sick last year & stopped working out. (after just under 30 years of exercising daily)

I am much weaker for sure but have readjusted my expectations so now I am starting slow to build back up to where I was.

That will happen, it will just take time so let up on the pressure onyourself.

If you miss a day, don't beat yourself up.

No, don't do that. :)

It is very difficult but try to force yourself to do something every day & you'll find encouragement when you start noticing the little improvements.

It takes a long time to get out of a funk, anaishunter , but bit by bit, it can be done. It is taking me more than a year, but I am getting back to my old self by doing things like adjusting/eliminating my medications, getting back to my hobbies, re-establishing routines, etc. Be kind to yourself.

Possibly reset your thoughts on exercise. First plan—set out clothes u would exercise in, put the activity on your calendar. Plan to do just 1-2 minutes…once started u might do a bit more but if not, u have met ur goal for the day. Add small increments of duration slowly. Do activities u enjoy. Do daily activities with exercise focus (example- while cooking, do 1 mini squat or push up off the counter). Just ideas…you can do this 👍

Hello, I am new here. I recently found out I have 2spinal fractures due to osteoporosis. I like to keep active as well. Strength training is imperative with osteoporosis and MS IMHO and since the fractures I have been scared to do my usual exercises. From past experience I know how easy it is to slip into the place that you are in right now. If I may, I suggest you be gentle with yourself. MS and hip replacement, that is a lot. But…give yourself a nudge to do a little bit of an easier version of your routine. Stick your toe in the water! All or nothing is not helpful. At any rate I have found this helpful in getting me past a slump in the past. It simply felt better doing a bit than feeling bad about doing nothing and so, over time the cycle switches to a positive upward one. If you just needed a good vent then I apologize for all of the above!!

I know what you are going thru. I had civil 2 years ago & it zapped all my energy & made me very weak. It has taken me 2 years to get close to where I was before I got sick. It can be a slow process but as long as you are taking at least one step towards your goal daily you are making progress. Just by venting here you've taken the first couple of steps. You've made progress... next step set a small goal...3 leg lifts each day... after you are comfortable then step it up & add a couple more. After each session look in a mirror & tell yourself "Good job today, you got this." Your brain needs ti hear those words along with "I love you." We actually believe what we say to ourselves more than what we hear from others. So positive affirmations only! I hope you can get out of the funk soon❣️🤗

I just (yesterday) read an article in a MS magazine about apathy. It really explained it a lot. It's the shutting down of a brain function that gets you moving.

just try going for a short walk ,that will help get you startedl...love yourself for you need it ...loves ....lots prayers to help ...bless you ...

April-June is always hard for me. I’m where you are in that I need to restart my routine. Hot cold rollercoaster, dreary days. Spring has become my enemy.

Whooaa! thank you all for the support and for taking time to comment and provide ideas. With better Spring weather, I have been able to walk more and stick to some consistent walking in the pas 7 days. The hip replacement has been a blessing = pain is gone.

I'm fighting with myself for motivation. Every sunny day is a blessing. Every foggy day is a challenge.
