All I can say is, live near the loo, because the need to go and having to go is very, very close. You may feel tired from not eating properly, and from so many visits to the bathroom, but this too will pass. Blessings Jimeka 🤗

I had to wear depends because i couldn't get to the loo fast enough. I like calling it the loo. thanks jimeka and remember, it's only once every 10 years JSSimp

Normal to feel nervous but the colonoscopy itself is the easy part, some med though your IV and the next thing you know you wake up back in your room. The diet and prep is the worst part, stay close to the bathroom, depends are a good idea, disposable wipes and a tube of desitin or vasoline is helpful for discomfort. Good luck ✌✌✌

I like the reminder that the prep is the bad part. Once you get there, it is all over and you do not even remember it! Good luck. 🤗

I'm considered high risk for colon cancer because my dad had it. I had to get tested earlier than most people do. The first one they gave me a gallon jug of horrible disgusting gross...and that's raising it up a few levels...tasting stuff to drink. I ended up vomiting more than half of it. The next time they gave me something different that was just as disgusting tasting but maybe only a 1/4 gallon and I managed to keep that down and it went out in the correct direction. Then I pretty much lived on the toilet for the next few hours. That is the worst part of the colonoscopy. I get to look forward to that every 5 years instead of every 10. 😱😱😱

Sorry to hear of your high risk fo Colon Cancer and having to experience the bad episodes. In the event praying all future colonoscopy will show great results. Thanks for all the helpful information🙏🏾

My husband just had his second and was Not given that super horrible stuff from the pharmacy to drink. He had to dissolve Miralax in Gatorade. There eas a lot to drink but at least the flavor wasn't as gaggy.

JSSimp profile image
JSSimp in reply tomrsmike9

I have the Miralax and Gatorade drink and the taste isn’t too bad just a lot of it🙏🏾

mrsmike9 profile image

The old stuff from the pharmacy was nasty! Count your blessings!!

JSSimp profile image
JSSimp in reply tomrsmike9

I’m definitely counting my blessing after hearing from everyone speaking great things and the ease of the prep compared to the older one. Thanks🙏🏾

I mixed the miralax with crystal light lemonade, I can't stand the taste of gatorade 😝😝and only half the amount of liquid then I had to drink the first time👍 the old stuff WAS nasty

JSSimp profile image
JSSimp in reply tostarlight5

Ok. I have completed all the Miralax and Gatorade. All I can is Thank You Jesus for the 1st step. I’m happy this will only take place every 10yrs unless otherwise necessary. Thanks for all the info🙏🏾

mrsmike9 profile image
mrsmike9 in reply tostarlight5

Ooo, I have to remember that. I can tolerate Gatorade but it's not a favorite!

starlight5 profile image
starlight5 in reply tomrsmike9

Just the gatorade alone, even without the miralax, ugh...😝😝😝

crystal light is so, so much better but I have to admit I haven't wanted to drink it since!!!

💯 as others have said the prep is the worst. I had two in my 20’s for other reasons but one of them they told me to take a handful of duralax and to do enemas after I felt empty prior to leaving for procedure - I had never taken duralax and didn’t realize what would happen - talk about a rude awakening. I slept the rest of the night on the floor in my bathroom at the time.

2nd time was the gallon jug of liquid which you are supposed to drink all of it but start expelling from mouth ½ through but need to finish while the other part of your body is expelling.

My suggestions - prepare to have the ability to just stay in your bathroom once you wake up that first time. Make a mini bed; plan to stay there and realize there will be nothing in you by the time you actually leave for procedure.

The procedure itself nothing except the first 15 min cause you feel it but you are out cold for mist of it and wake up groggy but head home.

As for the med you mention im not sure 🤔

I’m already like drinking all of this is getting me anxious before starting this morning. I hydrated really well for the last couple of days which I heard helps the dizziness. Maybe in the future they will come up with something better than what’s out now😀 Thanks for all the helpful information and making a mini 🛌 in the bathroom🤣🤣🤣I will keep that in mind. Love the idea of the procedure been easy🙏🏾

I had to take 4 Dulcolax and then drink 64 oz of light colored Gatorade with Miralax in it. If you make the liquid cold and drink it very slowly (mine was over a two hour period) it goes much better. Drinking it too fast can make you nauseous. Once your stool is ‘clear’ if doesn’t really hurt if you don’t finish it. It will still be colored (usually kind of yellow). The point is to get everything out of your colon. Mine was much less horrible than everything I had heard.

JSSimp profile image
JSSimp in reply tomhepler531

This is exactly what I’m having to do. Will keep this in mine as I prepare this am. Sounds like a great plan because it’s being having me feeling anxious over the last wk. Thanks for these pointers🙏🏾

that was my last prep and a low fiber diet the day before. they found 1 polyp and glad it is gone despite high fiber diet. depends on way to procedure. even though feel empty. My best for an uneventful procedure.

I've had several and it was be like going to sleep and then waking up when its over. The worst part was drinking the stuff before that would empty my bowels. The stuff's gotten better over the years I've experienced. No MS effects for me.

JSSimp profile image
JSSimp in reply tosashaming1

Ok. Good deal. I know that’s my biggest thing to get through the process of drinking all the solutions. Knowing all will go well. Thanks so much for the positive words🙏🏾

When I first had one I had to drink a gallon(!) the night before. When I got near the end, I would stare at the glass I poured and wondered if I could do it. Then it was 8-oz. the night before and 8-oz. the morning of. Worked out much better.

JSSimp profile image

Had 3 already. No big deal. Just remember to be sure and ask the anesthesiogist to be sure you don't remember it afterwards. Works! Best naps ever.

The prep is not fun but the procedure is a piece of cake. I felt utterly stupid for being so nervous before when it was done.

Certainly the prep is tough, but it is much easier than it used to be. I was awake for my colonoscopy; it was interesting because I heard the gastroenterologist explaining everything to a student or resident. I am an M.D. myself and I prefer to be awake for procedures if it is possible.

Don't be afraid because it can your life. I was diagnosed with colon cancer at the age of 37. I had to have emergency surgery. The doctors found 25 polys and only one was cancerous. I had to wear a colostomy bag. And I did not do chemotherapy. Now I am cancer FREE and that was 12 years ago. I have a colonoscopy every three years. So, I advise people to get one.

Hello Friend, the bathroom trips and drinking the required mixture unpleasant; I just had one in May.

Prayers and love to you :)

P.S Make sure someone is with you, just a little sleepy which is normally required for procedures

I'm also scared to do this. There are no bathrooms close by, I'd have to travel, I don't like taking people with me to procedures. I was forced to depend on my dad to drive me back & forth for breast cancer surgery, just a lumpectomy, but that was before the virus, no way am I asking him to help me go to a procedure when he's in more danger than I am. Thank you for posting this. Let us know how it goes?

JSSimp profile image
JSSimp in reply toekelks

Ok. I understand in the event sometimes we need the help of others and they will sometime need our help. I used to be the same way in the past with asking for help. Today it’s us reaching out for help and tomorrow it could be them. Try to remember in life exchanging of help is good. We shouldn’t feel like we’re a burden when we need a lil help. I pray you’re well now with having the lumpectomy. I will let you know how it goes. Stay encouraged and many blessing🙏🏾

my mum kept saying how horrendous it would be, not the procedure, but the prep. you live on the toilet for half a night, but i took it in apple juice and couldn't even taste the stuff. the procedure i don't remember as i was knocked out and after i came to i was a bit loopy. then i went home. you should be fine.🤗

JSSimp profile image
JSSimp in reply toBlanketTime1

I agree the Miralax and Black Cherry Gatorade together mixed well and didn’t taste bad with 64oz in all. Did about 2 Cups of Veggie broth, 2 glasses of Apple Juice and lots of water so I was super clear🤣🤣🤣

The procedure was not bad when I woke up it was over and next one will be in 10yrs. Thank you Jesus🙏🏾
