Geriatric kickboxing match

My husband and I decided to go to the Senior hour at 6 am at Walmart on Tuesday. Since I just turned 65 we thought it might be nice to take advantage of it. The only advantage was getting a close parking space. Walmart did a good job of getting the shelves stocked with what they had. After 10 minutes in the store, it became wall to wall buggies with people shuffling their feet behind it. There were traffic jams in the aisles because one person couldn't find what they wanted and didn't know what to do while others were trying to guide their buggy around them. We headed to the paper aisle first as we were out of paper towels and kleenex & it seems that's the aisle that usually empties out the fastest. People were upset because they could only get one package at a time. We finally made our way through the store and found most of what I needed except flour. I asked my husband if we import it from China and is that why there hasn't been any on the shelf for 2 weeks. I can't make chocolate chip cookies without flour! But I was able to get peanut butter and can make peanut butter cookies cuz mine don't use flour. So we got to the check-out LINES. They had all but 2 registers open with lines going down action alley. The line for self-check was a lot shorter than the regular one so we opted to go there since I used to work there at Walmart & I knew how to check groceries pretty fast. But I managed to get into a line behind a little guy and his wife. She was telling him how to scan the items because he wouldn't let her do it even though he didn't know what he was doing. I wanted to go up to him and just scan his groceries for him so we could get out of there. He kept wanting to put his credit card in the slot before he was done scanning his groceries which would make him have to start over because he would hit the cancel button. But I stood there patiently waiting, thinking that could be me someday. Then to top the trip off my bill was over $300! I never spend that much. I knew some prices have gone up but that was ridiculous! My husband says that for all the times we have had to go through the self-check line we should have some vacation time coming!

So lesson learned...not everything that sounds good..is!

What an experience! Thanks for the warning. My sweet sister was able to pick up a little flour for me. I also ordered some from a bulk online place. I thought that type of buying was behind me, now that it’s just my husband and me.

My husband & I buy in bulk a lot of times because it's actually cheaper in the long run. Our Walmart doesn't have grocery pick up yet but you can order all the dry goods & consumables online. They just won't do produce and refrigerated items so we do that a lot. Then we just have to get the produce and refrigerated items & don't get too worn out. Neither one of us can walk around Walmart for very long. The other grocery store in town is a mom & pop store and their prices are really high cuz they can't buy in bulk like Walmart can.

I get my groceries by Tesco on home delivery. This week, no milk, no bread, no eggs, no flour, no toilet roll, the list goes on. Every week I order between 25 and 30 trays of dog food for Razor. They brought me 3. How am I supposed to feed him? Also everyone has gone crazy and getting home delivery and now there are no slots left. Fully booked for a month. I have had to phone round all my friends who don’t have dogs to see if I can have their allowance for dog food. People are so greedy, Razor only eats 1 type of dog food. It used to be 5 for £3. Now they are charging 79p per tray. Someone is making some money out of this. 🤗

Here in the US if people are, or should I say get caught, price gouging there will be a price to pay. Do any of your grocery stores deliver at all? Some here have started just to stay in business. I know its hard to get a dog to understand that they don't really have a choice to be picky about their food. They don't realize that they are lucky to get what you give them. I'm having the same problem. I couldn't get what Jack usually eats so he is snubbing his nose at it. But when he gets hungry enough he eats it. Praying you can get groceries for both you and Razor & still be able to pay for them.

Razor is allergic to chicken and most dog food has it in. So he eats beef and turkey in gravy and always has. At 15 if I change it now it could upset his digestive system and cause more problems. Everyone loves Razor so I am hoping I can have their allowance. How is Jack doing? 😊

Oh I am sorry, I didn't know he had allergies. Can he eat hamburger or other "people" beef if you can't get dog food? I agree changing his diet now would throw him into a tizzy though! Jack is doing good. He had a spa day at the groomers. He absolutely will not let me trim his nails and he has 2 dewclaws on each hind foot that want to catch on the carpet if they grow too long so I took him & let the groomers do it & he got a bath while he was there. They asked me if he was always that happy. Yes, he never meets a stranger - they are all friends. Heaven help us if our house gets broken into. Praying for you and Razor during this hard time.

Thank you, Razor only has dewclaws at the front and my hubby cuts them, they grow so quickly. It’s nice that Jack is so happy, he must feel loved. 🤗

Oh no!! If ground meat is cheap, he may like a burger 🤷‍♀️ He has to eat too!

My grocery delivery is overrun and asking people to cancel their weeks. They have been out of Vs milk, so hubs had to make extra runs to the store. The farms are also selling out, chicken has been gone from the stores, and I guess people are just at home eating 8 meals per day 🤷‍♀️

They are just plain hoarding everything because they think they won't be able to go out and buy food and consumables. And now the farmers and Truckers can't get everything back into the stores fast enough to catch up.

Yes, the prices of goods at supermarkets here have mysteriously risen too! We are social distancing here, though, so there aren't crowds in the aisles, I have been told. I never thought I would long to go to a supermarket but after a week of not being allowed to go, I feel like I am missing out. 😂

Our store normally isn't crowded but they did a seniors only time & this is a retirement community so it was horrible. I guess no one figured that many seniors would come out to shop. We didn't. We won't do it again either!

Shame the session wasn't as quiet as expected because of the large number of shoppers! I suppose it is a learning situation for all as it is so new. :-)

My husband found some online and should be here Monday. I only use King Arthur flour cuz it's finer than other flours and is great for cakes and breads.
