MS and mental health counseling.

I wrote about Cymbalta helping with mental health. But the other part of that is getting counseling. My new counselor does not get MS. She is using DBT. Anyone else have experience with that. It is a system of skills related to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy that helps you change your thinking. But, it is a lot of work. My fatigue is such that I am really not motivated to do the homework when the medicine from my psychiatrist is working well. My instinct is that I need to keep practicing mindfulness but this new stuff takes too much effort.

I wonder if getting a second opinion would be in order. After looking up DBT, with which I was unfamiliar, and after hearing about your fatigue issues, I would wonder whether that form of therapy is the best choice. Does your provider explain why she believes this will work for you? I certainly don't know your situation, but if it were me, I would ask more questions.

Thanks. I will talk to her more about it next time. i have only seen her 3 times. she is young. i will explain the fatigue issues next time. I do like the mindfulness part and she did help me see how my all or nothing thinking is contributing to my anxiety.

Forgive me if I seemed intrusive. I tend to lean toward asking a lot of questions about any treatment so I understand its purpose, side effects, etc., and I tend to encourage others to do the same. I'm thrilled if this is working for you.

I have to agree with greaterexp on getting a second opinion about this. But definitely keep the lines of communications open with your Dr. And explain that, that type of therapy is to much for you right now.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes! And if you have to get a new Dr? Then get one!
