Baffled how to use Medical Marijuana 😯

I have been in much pain. So my physicians suggested medical marijuana. (it is legal in my state, especially for MS). I went to the dispensary (Cureleaf, Inc.), that my doctor chosen for me; I purchased oil (5 mg THC, 5 mg CBD), balm (high in THC👎🏽), and the leaf herb (nice to say than marijuana leaves) which is high CBD. I am suppose to vape, ingest oil while I drink my tea, use balm for bothersome area.

I have never smoked or vape anything other than Vic’s 44 oil for a cold. I suffer from debilitating nerve pain and spasms/rigidity. I am at a lost or overwhelmed what I should do with these items that my physician told me to buy. I have a call into my physician for directions. I have tried the oil in tea at bedtime - best sleep and in the morning to have a good or decent start. I haven’t figured out to do with the vaporizer.

I am just curious what others who use Medical Marijuana do.

Kindly, please share your experience. I believe your experience can be beneficial for me. They can help me be more educated, be more prepared for my physician visits, and have more hope in this new path. I goal is to reduce or cease using certain medications, especially an opiate like Fentanyl.

Thank you

Tonyia🤗

Nothing to be afraid of! U can put oil under your toungue, they make vape oil with glycerin which is more safe but myself I'll get a swisher sweet cigarillo and roll the herb. Don't know how to roll that's ok they make cheap rolling machines. Allows you to center yourself and get shit done. Sorry for your pain. Start out slow and gradually increase. Not the demon it's made out to be, only natural medicine that has no adverse side effects. But u be the judge. (Not looking for arguments from others either just trying to help!)

Thank you for sharing. No I will not smoke; as a musician I cannot put my lungs at risk. That is why they want me to vape.

Edibles are also viable. I mean who doesn't love a brownie or fresh baked cookies!😁

Hi. I vape a strain that is high on CBD, that is the component in cannabis, that helps with pain and inflammation. The name of the strain is Cherry Wine, my doctor recommended it to me, and is really good.

Hi, TonyiaR7 Glad your doc gave the ok for medical marijuana! I think the shop where you purchased your device can give you pointers on how to use the equipment if you are new. Also, hope you get some helpful pointers here on the group. Good luck. Keep us updated when you can.

Good post Tonyia, I have wondered how to take it with the OxyContin and the pregablin and the pramepexole that I am on. It’s something I want to ask my neurologist about it when I see her. My sister takes the oil under her tongue and she says it really helps. I would love to be off the opiate but until I find a replacement I am going to continue using it. Keep us updated please, thank you blessings Jimeka 🦋 🤗

I am on many meds. No one wants to take or lessen any medication until I can be in a good place (good response) from medical marijuana. I am growing slow.

I don’t believe in smoking. No damage to my lungs so that is why I will use a vaporizer.

I always got mine as a liquid. High CBD low THC that is around 10-15percent THC. get a 1 ml syringe, fill it then squirt down your throat. Vaping requires to much work.

TonyiaR7 profile image
TonyiaR7 in reply toRoyceNewton

I didn’t see any 10:15 CBD oil at dispensary. I would have bought it.

RoyceNewton profile image

if you have to get higher, just be aware that the THC produces the stoned effect. I used to go in the dispensary here in AZ very well dressed and the first thing out of my mouth was "I have no interest in getting stoned, I want high CBD low THC what do you suggest?

My neurologist recommended vaping because it minimizes negative health aspects of smoking, but it is immediate. Easy to determine how much is needed because it is immediate. Edibles, lotions...all take much more study. I vape flower also because it offers the most control, as opposed to someone's manufacturing a product. I've learned there it's a whole lot more than THC or CBD. Yes, I found CBD rich flower to work the best for my neurologic pain. But, it is much more than simply THC or CBD, and it is the combination of what's in a strain that determines how well it will work, as well as side effects.... The dosing method...fast or slow with short lasting or long lasting respectively. A cannabis industry site called Leafly, offers much information in a simple easy to use form. Look at the Effects, Medical, and Negatives sections for each strain. Read the reviews. Most of it is medical reviews even though they don't cater to the medical side of cannabis only. There are many sites, offering information and reviews, but I like Leafly because it is summarized well in the Effects, Medical, and Negatives sections. Vaping oils, using lotions, or edibles take a whole lot more effort to get it right. Vaping flower for pain. You take a puff or two, or more, till the pain is gone. Easy as that for me. If not, maybe you need a different strain. For other MS symptoms, it will be different. I use a high CBD indica for my evening pain, because CBD works best, indica is sedating. I found CBD from hemp, has yet to work anywhere near as well, but I keep trying, and have to if I leave the state. For fatigue, it takes an energizing sativa. Most are high THC. Different symptom, different med. For fatigue I use edibles because I need it to last longer than the time to get to sleep as with the pain. I've tried lots and lots of meds over many years via multiple neurologists. This is the only thing that worked. It is the only thing I use. Check with your dispensary, or multiple dispensaries, for help. And check out the sites on line for assistance as well.

I'm sorry, I'm having to rush through this now. You can PM me. I will gladly offer whatever I can. But keep in mind, I'm not a doctor, just a guy living with M.S. who spent years nightly trying to get to sleep but not able to because of the pain. And now that medical cannabis is available, and it works so well for me, I want to let others know.

Just heard, Canada just made it legal nationally! Good for them.

Thank you for your help.Good for them that Canada legalize it nationally. It will take the US much longer unless it effects someone very important with much money and/or influence.

I’m a little surprised you were given so many things all at once. I hope the shop is helpful with information. I went with a friend to two shops, but they gave opposing viewpoints and information. I think it will help for you to look up as much as you can and consider trying one formula and dose at a time until you know what form and dosage works best for you. Each delivery method has advantages and disadvantages.

I pray you get relief!

I am learning this. I really don’t like the oil. I agree with you. I am tired of being a guinea pig and tired of try various things to see which works. Right now I am in horrific pain right now. I have my doctor to work with the dispensary at the moment

Research and trying. Like MS, we are all different. I live in a medical marijuana state. I use a vape pen. Just take a hit on the end and the battery inside turns the oil into a vapor form. It only takes me one small vape and I am set for the night. Pray you find the right fit for you. It really helps my spasms before bedtime.

Thank you for sharing. Right now the oil bothers my throat or digestive system. I will have to try vaping.

I suggest you read The Leafy Guide to Cannabis. I had many of the same concerns and this book helped tremendously.

Tonyia,

I hope you find relief from your symptoms. Every time I have tried marijuana, I’m up all night thinking about the dumbest things. I have the blessings from my neurologist, but I haven’t found the right formula yet. Let me know what works for you after you have a couple of successful weeks ok.

TonyiaR7 profile image
TonyiaR7 in reply toCraigS

I will let you know. I find myself more alert or awake about dumb things or easily distracted to focus on something else. Still working on it.

Hi Tonyia,

1st, sorry to hear you’re in so much pain. I also have similar problems. There are lots of good ideas here, and thankfully, we live in an age where new info becomes available at our fingertips every day. I have one thought from my personal experience:

If you haven’t vaped yet, whether oil or leaf, take it easy on your 1st draw. My first time, I took a deep one, and immediately exploded with a fit of coughing. And I’ve been vaping CBD oil for a while. The MMJ is apparently a bit more irritating to the throat, at least for me. What I do now is draw the vapor into my mouth, and do the “French inhale,” which is to then you open your mouth, and draw the vapor up into your nose.

Just a caution and suggestion.

I take Gold Cap THC/CBD pills during the day and vape at night - my spaticity is kept at bay! And I don't need the horrid Baclofen now. I only say horrid as that drug (for me) knocks me out and turns my legs into cooked spaghetti which is not helpful. Now if I was in pain that might be a Godsend, but I have no pain, just stiffness that THC/CBD makes to go away. Good luck!

Pain is horrific. The spasms are any where there is a muscle in my body. Certain area like spine/neck are the worse. Then, areas in your private area is next. But when the entire body flares up; the stiffness; rigidity; spasms; and joint pain is unspeakable. My husband thinks he knows how I feel because he lives with me; he sees that I am pain. Sometimes I don’t think I am living like a human being.

If only we all had the same access. It isn’t right for some Americans to have legal Dr prescribed medication and other citizens who take the same medication be criminals.

Perfectly legal for me to take 2 morphine pills and 2 muscle relaxers every night and 60 mg of amphetamine to wake up every morning though!

It is ironic. But it is also about money and power.
