Just wanted to share a small victory! Haven’t been able to exercise since before my diagnosis (5 1/2 months). I’ve been too afraid to try anything for fear of (or actually) falling/stumbling.
Well tonight I gave in and tried the pool; I was able to swim 30 laps and didn’t drown!! It was slow, and ugly..... but I did it! Doc said it was okay to try anything I want (exercise-wise) as long as I was safe..... doesn’t matter if I can feel my legs/feet 🤷♀️
Felt good to be able to do SOME sort of exercise again..... as I had been running until 6 months ago.
Still waiting on insurance to approve Tysabri; so still waiting on my first infusion date.
Hope everyone is having a great week!! Getting HOT and HUMID here 😩🤢
Please Share with me your small (or big) victories this week! & God Bless!!

WOW 4krobh! way to go! Ive heard water is easier on muscles etc and one exercise is like 7 times 1...I am so impressed and hopeful....you have made me smile...
4krobh, it's Fancy1959. Congratulations! Way to go!! I can't say enough about what you've accomplished. In my mind you have overcome and made a large Victory not a small victory. Exercise is such a key to keeping our MS and check in our body healthy. Have you ever looked into or do you know that the MSAA has a direct association with swimming.. They support a ongoing campaign called MSAA Swimming. It's a great way to keep track of your swimming accomplishments and achievements and during some of their campaigns it's also a way to raise money for the MSAA. Here's the link that will take you directly to the link.
Again, we're so very proud of you within the family here. Keep up the swimming. You be so impressed with the results has on your overall health, your strength ,and your endurance! All things that Ms loves to Rob us of. Please keep in touch and let us know how you're swimming progresses. Until we speak again remember together we are stronger! Take care and I look forward to talking to you soon again. Fancy.
Congratulations!!! You must be so proud of yourself. That’s a verybig accomplishment. You have inspired me to try harder with my exercise. Thank you! 👍🙏😊
30 laps. Wow. Well done. Swimming is the bes exercise all round. Keep it up. Blessings Jimeka 🦋 🍫 ps my victory was cutting the lawn, but I do have a ride on lawn mower, but my leg survived 😊
It’s at least worth a try!! I will say it felt reeeeeally odd with such an altered sensation in my legs/feet; but that didn’t seem to affect my ability to actually DO the work. I think maybe that’s what I get scared of..... that all the weird feelings will make it impossible; it hasn’t yet so until it does I will keep trying. Best wishes! Let us know how it goes
I’m thrilled for you! It must have felt fabulous to feel that accomplishment!
I finally learned to swim when I was 57, and that was after my MS diagnosis. I have felt wonderful after a swim, and though I rarely go, it’s still a victory.
That is absolutely wonderful! So happy you were able to discover your exercise fit. I have all the inhibitions you do with concerns about falling. When swimming if you lose your balance, oh well, no harm if you fall further into the water.
😁
I am just starting water therapy and aerobics myself. It is sooo freeing!
That’s exactly how I feel! I may try a stationary bike too..... I small one for under my desk but it’s not much “work” just kind of keeps my legs moving.
Our gym has a water Zumba class
; I may try that too...... are the water aerobics strenuous?
I don't know how strenuous they are yet. pool was down for maintenance till Monday I used to do the water aerobics I could actually do two back to back classes (at my own speed of course) and it felt great!
