Frequent Relapses

For the past few days I have been having a rough time with my walking and cognition. Is there something I can do to help this problem? I know it comes with the territory, but geez, enough already. I have been fighting this disease since 1987. I just want to be able to helpy son a little more who also happens to be my caretaker. I feel useless. I want to do more things in my mind, but my body won't let me as of late. I am taking tecfidera, seems like I am having more relapses lately.

A 3 day steroid infusion really seemed to help this last relapse that was affecting my walking. Still having some problems but it's much better and not worsening (yet)

I will have to ask my neuro about that. I've never been given them. I am also recovering from knee surgery because I fell and tore muscle and bone. Hopefully the physical therapy can at least get me back to where I was. Thanks for the advice.

PT is good! Maybe the knee surgery and the stress of surgery are directly and indirectly affecting ur symptoms? Not sure how prudent steroids would be while healing from surgery...

erash BRENDA1958 I so agree with erash. The stress on your body and on your mind is probably causing part of your problems. Definitely need to discuss with your neuro asap. Rest your body and mind, the rest of life will wait..

Same here; I had 5 day steroid infusion along with oral taper; it helped tremendously. Haven’t gotten back to 100% by any means; but I’ll take ~65%. Praying for relief for you!!

Hi BRENDA1958 I'm sorry your having a tough time right now. Like the others said, a call to your Neuro wouldn' hurt right now. 😊

Let us know what they say?

And good on your son!😊🖐

I agree with the others. Sounds like you need to talk to your neurologist about changing your DMT because yours not working for you and maybe putting you on steroids for your suspected relapse. Hope everything works out for you.

Cognition problems, not a magic pill, but I pulled out of years of very thick brain fog mostly by becoming obsessive on nutrition, juicing fruits and veggies. Bacopa is an herb you can get in pill form, over the counter/mail order. Google it for info on it. I started using it after hearing Dr O on tv. Seemed to help. It's cheap. Stuck with it. But yes, STRESS KILLS if you have MS. So why did I have an air traffic controllers stress level job for so long? Every licensing class I took for years started with the warning, this job is on par with an air traffic controllers job at Others. That's when I was diagnosed. Reduce stress, focus on nutrition, add bacopa....nutrition, avoid processed foods.... Sorry all my old food processing customers! And oh yeah, my Neuro's of decades eventually pulled me off all DMT's. Not saying it may not have helped long term, I never progressed to sec progressive, just went essentially comatose for a couple years! Great Now! (Yeah I have MS, and nowhere near the pre MS days, but considering the battles with MS I've fought, I'm still here and doing Great!) Over 5 years since my last relapse of many, many!

Definately call Neurologist, a few rounds of steroids, but STOP beating yourself up! I walk around loose hrs, nothing done. In OT keep a planner, write down even things you remember, like when your son gets home time you get up, try to read others .. But if you feel worse on treatment .. You need to talk to your Dr !! Brain fog makes you want to go to sleep, try little things that you can 'cross off' your list.. I write down everything even though 'i use to remember' write everything .. Need to get Neurologist in on this too! Get your son help, sometimes it helps, if you guys can come to a point where .. 'Mom are you doing ok' my daughters finally getting it, mom brain fart, they get frustrated sometimes. 2 teen girls divorced all friends names and I'm suppose to remember ... A normal mom gets confused ..

What you say is so true. I can't remember things myself. Even people I've known my whole life, their names slip from my grasp. My son no longer gets mad at me for forgetting. Bless his heart, he has changed his life to come home and take care of me. He has also educated himself on my disease. I am truly blessed. Since I am a veteran, I am in the VA health system, I see my neuro on the 17th. Definitely going to ask for steroids. However, my son says that my Baclofen may be causing a lot of my weakness and being "out of it." I skipped a dose of the Baclofen yesterday and I stayed awake all day without drooling on myself. Again, thank you for your advice. I welcome further discussion on this issue. God Bless you.

I tried Tecfidera, but had very poor response. You may do better, but always keep an open mind. Best wishes. Love, Kelly xx
