Stolen meds.

I went out of town and stayed at a hotel and when I got home late last night I found I only had 5 Baclafen left in my bottle. There was about 50 missing. I was sick. Searched the house to make sure I hadn't left them at home. My husband called the hotel and they said to call the General manager. Today I called and she said she would check into it and call me back. I don't know if that will happen. Now I don't have my meds for the rest of the month. I don't know what to do about it. Has this happened to anyone else? What can I do? I didn't take the ones I have left saving them for really bad days. I can really feel it. I don't know how I will cope. I learned a hard lesson only take exactly what you need and leave the rest at home.

Oh no that never happened to me but there must be something you can do. I would call your doctor and see what they think maybe they would know what to do. I wonder if you tell the insurance company that they were stolen which they were they would refill them I mean in this day and age this must happen to other people. Don’t just sit back. Maybe you would even make some kind of report so that the insurance company knows that they were stolen, I wouldn’t wait for the hotel manager, because those pills are gone and really do you want them back you don’t know who or what has been touching them.

Well this will teach me not to have my medicine away from me. It will be a pain but it’s more than a pain if they are stolen.

Let us know what happens.

Good luck.

@ssdw1958 Thanks I thought about calling our police. They should know where I can report it.

Well I would call them now the quicker you get it done the sooner you’ll have the medicines. Like Kenu said call the hotel and I would make the owner of that ehotel know you called the police. Get a case number and name of the Police person.

Good luck

cljones call your drs office. They have procedures for this. Normally they will replace them one time but they will tell you exactly what you need to do. I’ve been there before. Good luck

Call your local police and file a report so it is on record. Then call your insurance with report number, hotel name, manager name reported to. Then you should be able to refill prescription. I don’t know what you’re deductible is on your home owners insurance, that may be a choice also. Write everything down, times and who you talk to. Good Luck and I hope 🤞 it works out 🙏❤️ Ken

@kenu thanks i didn't know if I could report it here since it happened over 3 hours away.

My wife had this happen in Mexico 🇲🇽 and we still went thru the routine so insurance would not think it was a scam. Ours was $300 and our home owners insurance covered it. Now we take what’s needed plus five days in case you get stranded. Of course now with our health we don’t go far from home. 😉🙏🤞Ken

It wouldn’t matter how long ago it was because that’s when you notice they were stolen.

I sell insurance and live in Indiana. We had someone who had items stolen from their van in California and we covered it. Distance doesn't matter!

I would say file a police report, ask doctor for an RX of enough until next due refill and contact your insurance, explain and also give them police report #.

cljones , I am so sorry! I hope that your doctor can help you get more Baclofen.

My husband and I take all of our meds (that we brought for the trip) with us when we leave the hotel, unless there is a safe. We hide them in the car when we are site seeing or whatever. We take a small pill case/bottle on us or in my purse, with what we might need for that day, so we do not have to get into the meds that are hidden in the car while we are out. We never leave them in the hotel because there are maids, and other hotel personnel, all of whom have access.

I know that this does not help your present situation but may help in the future.

Please let us know how this turns out for you. I know that I have often wondered how my doctor and insurance would respond if this happened to one of us.

@Morllyn I had a friend who had her meds hidden in the car and it was broken into and they found them and stole them all. So I am afraid to hidden them in the car. I should have put them in the safe. Like I say hind sight is 20/20.

cljones I am so sorry that this happened to you!! A few years ago, we had major water damage in our home. About a third of our home had to be rebuilt. So many workers were in and out of our home. I kept meds in a bathroom drawer. There was absolutely no reason for anyone to go in that drawer. The pain meds from when my daughters had their wisdom teeth out and my muscle relaxers were all stolen. I no longer let anyone use our master bath. Good luck to you! I hope your doc can get you samples and/or the insurance company has a heart!!!!!!

I have to ask you when you are flying where do you have your medicines because I might be going to visit my son, daughter in law and our granddaughter I think I will have everything in my carry on because your other luggage are not suppose to be locked 🔒 so I don’t want to take any chances. Yes I am going to have it with me what can they say with some one in a wheelchair. How does everyone else travel??

cljones profile image
cljones in reply to ssdw1958

@ssdw1958 yes put your meds in your carry on luggage. Make sure they are in the bottle with the prescription and there should be no problem.

I always travel with my meds in my carry on, in the original bottled with the RX labels. Never had a problem

ssdw1958 When I have flown I has a special carry on just for my meds and never let it out of my site. Never had a problem. I was on Copaxone when I was traveling and I had the gel packs so security always had to check those but all was fine and I was able to be on my way.

Thanks everyone. I followed your advice and called the Dr office and the insurance co. The Dr sent me out a new prescription and the insurance company did an override and I was able to get my Baclofen. Yay everything worked out and it only took about an hour on the phone. :)

My fiancé travels a LOT for work. He stays in hotels at least 3 weeks a month if not more.

He never leaves his pills in his room or cash for that matter. If he does have a problem he wud make sure to ask the manager who had access to ur room. They will have a record of who was working at what time doing what service.

He wants to know what city u were in and what hotel. He knows people at most hotels. Please private message me

He also said to for sure file a police report cuz the DEA will need to know

Cljones: Praying this all works out 🙏. A police report and a call to your doctor should get you covered for a month. Too bad there are people like that everywhere. God's Peace
