Backyard wildlife: She posed for me

I took several great photos this weekend, but this is my favorite. She grabbed a spot of sun and posed. These lizards run around everywhere in our backyard and are so fun to watch. They also change colors.

Is that the lizard that puffs its throat out? Saw quite a few last week while at my husband's mom's home. When our boys were little, they loved chasing and catching them. They're fast! You were fortunate to catch him resting long enough to snap a pic!

Yes, the males "show their red money bag" to impress the females. I can't tell if this is a male or a female.

Do they grow any bigger Iona60? Good shot, I just love your garden. Blessings Jimeka

No. They stay small, are very timid, and aren't scary at all. I have so many outside pets!

I love anoles! We used to catch them as kids and wear them like earrings. They will hold on forever and it doesn't hurt at all. I nearly gave my high school English teacher a heart attack one day - I forgot I had them on my ears. :)

What a great word picture you painted, cindyrn68 ! Those were the days, weren't they? I used to catch grasshoppers, tie a long thread around them, and take them for a walk. Ah, those wonderful memories. 😊

WAshingtongirl you just went up a whole notch in my husband's book as he hates grasshoppers. Maybe your grasshoppers are cute but the FL ones are huge and look like aliens.

The grasshoppers were much cuter than Igor, my 5' long gopher snake. A neighbor caught Igor. But I caught Lightning while wading in a creek. He was a pretty snake. I brought him home with me. I was around 12. Today snakes give me the whillies! But I still try to catch lizards and grasshoppers whenever my grandkids are over. I'm just not as fast as I used to be. 😉

Thank you for your vivid description and the proper name for my lizards. I will now call them anoles. On second thought, I probably won't remember and will still call them lizards.
