Backyard wildlife - Anhinga

Saw the anhinga today. She dives underwater for fish and then comes out to dry her wings. When she is swimming, only her head and neck are above the water and she looks like a snake. I hope to get a picture of that one day.

They can eat snakes and small alligators - wild ! : ) x

Maybe this is why there are no alligators in our lake.

According to this site, this bird must be a male, as the female has a tan neck. I'll have to change his name from Annie to Andy.

Iona60, are you sure that you don't live in the tropics. It's amazing 😉. I have never heard of this bird before, it's quite the education this forum, thank you Jimeka

FL is kind of like the tropics. It hasn't gotten very cold here this winter. Look it up and see if you can find a picture of it swimming where it looks like a snake, or one where it is drying its wings.
