Was lucky to get this cardinal a few weeks ago in the bald cypress before the green fronds came back. Now you can't see the limbs.

Morllyn I love cardinals. It's fun to watch them feed each other. Do you know why they do that? My guess is that the male prechews food and passes it off to the female to use to feed the babies.

Iona60 it is part of their mating/bonding ritual. They are gorgeous!

Morllyn I think this pair is married. I see them do this often. They must really love each other. He will also whistle (for a very long time) until she joins.

Aww, that's real beauty, it's such a blessing to watch the courtship of 2 birds. We have a pair of wood pigeons in our garden and they sit on our front gate. Sometimes the lady pigeon really makes me laugh as she practically tells the guy to leave her alone and go away, it's so comical, nature is wonderful, we just have to take the time to study it. With the ms I have no excuse, lol blessings Jimeka πŸ¦‹ 🌈 πŸ•Š

Jesmcd2 I kind of thought that they mated for life. He had a total of 3 females following him around this spring and he kept chasing 2 off. Is he molting? I thought that maybe he is just old.

Maybe he's old? Either way the poor Lil dude is pissing his feathers😞😊

I love watching how birds interact with each other Iona60 Maybe us humans can learn from them on how to treat each other.😊

They are stunning birds! I miss them now that I'm no longer in the Midwest.

greaterexp I didn't realize that you don't have cardinals out your way. What a shame. I watch them all day long. They come to feed about 4 times a day. They can't get any seeds out of the feeder, so I scatter them on the ground. The pesky squirrels get most of them though.

I had tons of them in my back yard. After I married and moved to Oregon, I promised my husband we'd see many when we visited my sister. She had numerous bird feeders and always had cardinals feeding from them. We went back to visit, and my poor husband never even got a glimpse of one. My sister had a sweatshirt made for him with a picture of a cardinal and the words, "The Elusive Illinois Cardinal." My husband loved it.

greaterexp I'd hate it if I couldn't get my cardinal fix. So sorry your poor husband didn't get to see any.

I love how bright red the Cardinal is! Beautiful picture! Now I know why the Cardinals fly in pairs! I've seen a couple fly back and forth for weeks!

Yesterday I say a few Robins flying around. One (the big one) looked like she was attacking the other one(s?) every time she thought it (they?) was near her. Anyone know why a Robin would do this?

Nesting jennie62 ? I don't know lol πŸ˜… I know l have an old pillow and l pulled some of the stuffing out and tossed it out back, and birds are scrambling for it. So who knows.

I use Cornell's University website to do out different birds😁

jennie62 and Jesmcd2 After brushing our Aussie shepherd, we used to put the dog hai outside from the birds.

It's close to home jennie62 πŸ˜… and Iona60 I like it better than the audubon, they draw there pics. I would rather see the real thingπŸ˜…πŸ˜…

Me too! I love watching the birds "real-time" from Cornell Univ rather than the Audobon pics. If you can, turn up the volume and listen to them chatter away.

Iona60 did you get any pictures of the birds taking the Aussie's hair from the ground? That would be something.

Iona60 profile image
Iona60β€’ in reply tojennie62

jennie62 No pics of the birds taking the hair. They would also grab it from the front porch mat that he used to lay on.
