Backyard wildlife - Turtles

Some of my turtles are back. I used to have a large group that would come when I would feed them. The big one is huge. Isn't his little face adorable popping up there?

Wow, how great is that! Are those in your yard? I would love to have them visit me.🐢

I love all wildlife. I just saw my first snake 🐍, of the year, while cutting down the greens 🍃 that we planted last year. I picked him up and moved him so that I didn't hurt him with the mower. I do not tell my husband about the snakes 🐍 until they move on because he will get his shotgun and try to kill them. He is really scared of them.

Yes, these turtles are in our backyard. We live on a little lake and are near some wetlands. I think we get so many birds because the lake is shallow and they can easily see and catch the fish.

I usually just ignore he snakes when I see them. You are so brave to pick one up and move it.

We have one black snake that I call Stanley. I think he knows me by the big floppy hat that I wear. He usually doesn't even move when he sees me. When my husband comes out, he takes off.

Morllyn Oh, I am not judging. I was trying to be funny! As I try to be a Manly man and say I would shoot it. I would probably hide behind my wife!!!!!! Snakes are awful creatures that scare me to death! Sometimes, Sarcasm gets lost in writing. Or at least my writing!

I was not offended at all☺️, and my manly man would actually be running 🏃🏼the other way (if he could run). He hates them also.😬😳

Now, here is my public service announcement.

Snakes are important part of our eco system, and the food chain. They eat bugs, mice, rats and many other nuisance animals. In their own habitat they are awesome!

And they are not slimey 👅, they feel like cool leather! 😃

Wow!! That is so cool!! My kids found one small turtle once on our property but we really don't have a lot of them here. How close is it to your house? I would visit them everyday :)

Our little lake is about 15 to 20 feet from the house. We have a fence up along the edge of the property. I feel so much braver on the inside of the fence. I believe the big one would be a biter. We like to feed them bread and crackers.

That's so awesome! What a beautiful place to live :)

We've never had alligators, but the fence is there just in case. I'm not sure how awesome it would be if gators get in the lake.

True enough! I have family in Florida, as a kid from Oregon, it freaked me out that they had gators in the ponds. We don't have things like that in Oregon.

Love, love, love your turtles! I love your picture too! Keep them coming!

When I was a kid there was a pond down the road where my brother and I would catch tadpoles and watch them turn into frogs (in a fish tank with greens and rocks)! Oh and the turtles there were great! We had one we kept in a shallow-ish bowl until the year it decided to get out. We thought it went somewhere to die. Turns out a few years later it came out from behind the dryer. Turns out it just went somewhere to hibernate. We still laugh about that!

Raingrrl Thank you I am so appreciative of all the time we took to plant so many tropical bushes and flowers over the years. The wildlife love to come here, and we love to spy on them with our camera.
