Ifollowed Wahls level 2 X 3mos+ and had really good results. Symptoms worsened after a brief out of town trip where I wasn't able to adhere as strictly. Now I'm continuing with many of the Wahls principles and use her book as a frequent reference when considering nutrition and supplement choices.

Many swear by the benefits of the Wahls protocol, esp level 3. There are FB groups that can give guidance and support.

Dr Wahls has a free live webinar coming up Feb9th 8-930p ET. I will see if I can post the link

Everything i have read so far just makes sense to me. Its hard for me to read these days (between bad eyes & cog fog) but i am glad i am giving this book my best effort.

Thank u @erash !

I don't think that I can adhere to the Wahls protocol. I'm trying the anti inflammatory diet. Has anyone else tried the anti inflammatory diet?

erashβ€’ in reply toVinagirl

Vinagirl I've looked at the AI diet. There seemed to be a lot of overlap with Wahls. Would love to know how that goes for you.

These diets can get pretty $$$ and can be challenging to follow explicitly. I'd be better at following if I were guaranteed of the + outcomes...but of course, there are no guarantees in life (and that includes with our prescription drugs)

That is so very true. Thats why i am liking the introduction to Wahls Protocol cuz she goes into detail about how she came up with it. She tried other things and did her own research. She even says its not for everyone but this is what worked for her and why she thinks it works.

Midgey_Midge06 here's the link to her webinar. ps://facebook.com/TerryWahls/pos...

Dr Wahls does have a study funded by MS that begins this year (or maybe 2016) so maybe we will have more info on outcomes someday soon...

For me, I made and tried to maintain small diet changes periodically. I have looked around the internet for simple, low cost recipes. I found a few that are now part of my daily intake.

One step at a time..........

How about Dr. Furman ' s G-BOMBS ? It's a micro nutrient diet where al, you eat is Greens, Beans, Onoins, Mushrooms, Berries, Seeds/Nuts. I was able to follow it for 2 weeks and I lost 20 lbs, and felt better. I think it helps with inflammatory issues . It's difficult for me to continue , a lot of preperation ... basically vegan. Of course I gained it all back.πŸ˜•

I'm going to check out the Paleo

Good Morning. I have been following the Wahls Protocol since mid-September. It was a rather easy transition. I have drop foot and was hoping it would help with that, but so far no luck. It has helped though with other issues, bowel and bladder, for that I am thankful. The only downside for me is that I ended up losing15 pounds, which was not my intent at all. Many of my doctors are a little concerned, as am I, so I've been eating a few gluten-free things lately just to keep the weight maintained and my endocrinologist wants me to eat more protein than what the Protocol calls for. Good luck with the diet and let us know how it goes and for all the rest of us out there....let's keep fighting!

If you can follow the diet part you are awesome! I got the book a month ago and am eating healthier.

I read Dr. Wahls first book several years ago Minding My Mitochondria and got the Wahls Protocol when it came out. I respect her because she is an Internal Medicine physician who got MS. She teaches at the University of Iowa and if I remember correctly is on the board of directors at the VA hospital there and also see patients. She went to the Cleveland Clinic to the best MS specialists she could find but was still progressing, in a wheelchair, etc. She started researching nutrition to see how she might be able to just stop the progression and ended up actually reversing her symptoms. I just started level 3 of her diet a couple of weeks ago. It's difficult, especially with my level of fatigue and working full time. I hired a coach who is trained on her diet and who also has MS and had good success with the diet so she can help me since I don't have the energy to figure out how to incorporate it into my life all on my own. I've already been dairy free, 95% gluten free, and other things for years. But 3 years ago I started progressing between relapses so I think I'm secondary progressive. I hope I have some success, even if it just slows the progression. The diet isn't just about what not to eat. It's about getting the nutrition you need to heal what's been damaged and getting it through food. She tried just getting it through supplements in the beginning and didn't have the reversal of symptoms that she got after getting the nutrients from food.

Hidden pls let us know how it goes for u--and I hope u do have successπŸ‘

Thanks. As I said I've just started, meaning I'm still working out doing this and working it into my daily life. I've been staying "legal" meaning not eating anything that is excluded and only eating things recommended. But I'm not getting in all the recommended quantities yet, not incorporating some things like organ meats - haven't found a palatable way to do that yet. But I'm doing my best as I learn this new eating lifestyle. If it improves my energy and brain fog that would be great. If over time it improved my mobility that would be the best. So I'm giving it my best effort and will see how it goes. Our body's cells regenerate at different rates depending on the type of cell, which Dr. Wahls addresses on page 311. This is not a quick fix. It takes time to see results. My diet coach said after 100 days her brain fog had noticeably improved. Other things took longer. Everybody is different. I'll keep you posted if I get any change. Thanks for your support!

erashβ€’ in reply to

Hidden I had been a vegetarian for many yrs and then added chicken. I tried to add other meat but wanted to gag (sorry) except bacon which of course is not a great addition nor something I eat frequently. The organ meats will be a challenge!

Smoothies and soups are good ways I found to get more in. I also froze bone broth in ice cube trays for later.

Do you do the MQS (medical questionnaire survey) she mentions? I found its a pretty good way to monitor symptoms. I had a remarkable improvement in my scores.

Ps where do u find a coach? Cost?

β€’ in reply toerash

I've always liked the idea of being vegetarian - not eating anything with a face as they say. But I feel like I'm starving when I completely give up meat. I don't eat nearly as much beef as I used to, maybe once a week, and haven't eaten pork in years. Mostly stick to fish our fowl. I got a Vitamix last week so I can more easily grind up some of my veggies and get them in that way. I have a NutriBullet but it doesn't hold as much and isn't as powerful. I made some bone broth from organic bones I bought at the store and wasn't crazy about it. I need to work on my recipe! I printed the medical questionnaire out last year, never filled it out, and now can't find it. I need to do that though. I joined Dr. Wahls website, paid for a year of recipes that I haven't done much with because I'm too tired. Which is why I ended up hiring a coach to help me so I don't have to do all the thinking. Dr. Wahls has a list by state on her website under Resources. The one I chose does remote (Skype or telephone) visits if you don't live near her, and she has MS so that meant a lot to me too. It's all theory until you've walked in these shoes - or tripped and stumbled in them. She charges $92 for a 50 minute session. Fortunately because I'm still working I can afford it, but I don't know if I'll still be working much longer if something doesn't change soon. So it's worth the investment especially if it gives me any degree of improvement or slows my decline so that I can keep working. And if not at least I'll know I did everything I could. I'm woefully under-prepared financially for retirement. And, I just really like being able to walk!

Love my Vitamix!

Pacific makes a decent organic bone broth that I get at the grocers. Likely not as good as making your own but I compromise...

MSQ is online (Google) at least that's where I got mine

Wahls web site was $$$ so I never joined---and people in a Wahls FB group had mixed opinions on the value vs the cost

I'm recently working with a nutritionist for free thru another group I'm in. She's free, paleo not Wahls, no ms, but a wealth of knowledge

U have to invest in yourself, whether that's time, effort or money, to get the outcome you desire. U r def. making those investments, so I am sure u will reap the benefits!. Again looking forward to hearing how it goes.

β€’ in reply toerash

Love my Vitamix too! I agree on the cost of the Wahls stuff. Sometimes out of fear I spend $$ on something that I later think wasn't the best idea for me at least. I live in a very remote area and my options are limited because of location as well as the number of hours I work every week. It leaves me little time to engage in anything because my life force is completely drained by it. And since I was going to have to pay somebody I opted for a Wahls specific coach who has done the diet herself and can personally relate to the symptoms, though she doesn't teach Wahls protocol exclusively. Since that's what worked for Dr. Wahls I want to stay as close to her protocol as possible. I believe diet is definitely a key to getting improvement with this monster so you can't go wrong improving on that. It provides the building blocks for our bodies at the cellular level so why would that not matter! I've had 4 sessions so far with my coach and it has helped me jump start doing this diet level - something I wouldn't have achieved on my own. I'd been trying for months and just didn't have the mental energy. I've seen Pacific broth in stores but just started seeing the bone broth so I picked some up on my last shopping trip. Keep fighting the good fight! We're all in this together.

I'm trying to follow Dr. Wahls eating plan also. If you don't have the food stores close where you can buy the suggested foods it could be a little expensive. The grocery stores charge extra for things that's labeled Organic or Gluten-Free. My only suggestion is to go slow and work your way into any of her plans gradually. It works and you'll feel a lot better and if you trying to lose weight, you will. Good luck.

You want to hear something funny? I was talking to my husband telling him that I wanted to get that book. He said, Kelly, you have a copy on the big bookshelf! I forgot a friend of mine gave it to me when she moved and had to downsize. She moved across country. I felt so bad that I forgot about her sweet gift. So, now all I have to do is read it and try to implement changes. And yes, there is nothing like the smell of Starbucks! We have two in walking distance, a little overkill we think! πŸ˜†I would send you a cup if I could. We also have a Barnes and Noble about a mile away, maybe a little less. We are always there. Love, Kelly xx
